My 6th stay at the Talbot. It is still very nice but standards are, sadly, slipping. The room we had was a feature room. It was showing sings of tatty skirting boards and grubbiness in the corners of the room and bathroom. The towels had seen better days. There was no turn down service and the TV was set on...

At very short notice I have had to cancel a booking which by rights the Hotel could have continued to charge but they have been so considerate and understanding and have done more than expected to accommodate me. Excellent customer relationships and very friendly and helpful staff Kelvin

The staff were excellent and always ready to help. The hotel is really nice and our room was well appointed and very pleasant. Even though we were on a main road elevation we were not bothered by traffic noise as secondary double glazing is fitted. What we are not happy with is the misleading deal information. This was the first...

Having stayed at this establishment several times over the past 4 years, I was overjoyed when the staff upgraded our room to a suite overlooking the river and surrounding countryside. As ever, the staff were extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble, even being escorted to our room by the receptionist. Previously if you wanted tea or coffee, you...

Over the past three years we've stayed many times at the Talbot Hotel and have just returned from a very enjoyable three days. The hotel gets better and better. The food, always good, now has a quality of presentation, taste and variety to rival establishments with a Michelin star . The staff are cheerful, welcoming, professional and appear to be...

This is the third time we have stayed at the Talbot Hotel and we were not disappointed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the welcoming log fires in the sitting room were very much appreciated, The Wentworth restaurant food has certainly improved with their new chef and we would give it five stars. We had a wonderful...

Staff superb. Room had the best bed and shower I have ever used. Food was to die for. Easy to get to. Easy parking. Close to the town. Town was a bit of a letdown. Lots of shops closed. But the ones that were open were lovely.

My wife organised a 2 night birthday stay at the Talbot for us. We had a wonderful time. The room (11) was well appointed with a good view of the river. The room was clean airy and warm. Nice settee to view the TV, I hate having to lay on the bed to watch TV! Bathroom was fantastic, water was...

Dear SmilerP Thanks for leaving a great review on trip advisor, it's lovely to read you had such a great time and while we may have departed company with Mr M we still hold to a lot of the ideals that he established and this is evident in your review. Many thanks again for staying me reviewing. Best regards David

Stayed at the Talbot on a grotty Tuesday night and enjoyed the whole experience thoroughly. Had a delightful Champagne afternoon tea ensconced in front of a roaring fire. A few hours latter we were at it again in the Wentworth restaurant eating probably the best dinner we've had at the Talbot. The place is smart, spotlessly clean and the rooms...

Dear Properlush The weather had to turn eventually but at least these cold winter nights are a great excuse to have the fire lit and pop a bottle of fiz. Thanks for reviewing and choosing the Talbot. Best regards David

The hotel has been beautifully restored and it has a great location in the town but overlooking the river so first impressions were great. All the staff were really friendly and service was excellent. Add to that very good food in restaurant and brasserie and this place has it all. Well, apart from a lift, so if stairs are a...
