If you want to get away from it all then Gougane Barra Hotel is the place for you. Nestled beside the lake under the Shehy Mountains, this hotel is usually ignored by the 'Cork to Killarney' set, whose focus is on getting to the beautiies of Killarney without realising that Gougane Barra itself rivals most of the views to be...

We stayed at the Gougane Barra Hotel for 3 days. Our room was very comfortable and clean with a great view. The staff is friendly and attentive making every attempt to satisfy the guests. The big secret at Gougane though is the meals. We arrived in Gougane after a month in Paris and our favorite meal of the trip was...

The hotel is situated in a picturesque, enchanting, spiritual and mystical area surrounded by a lake and mountains. Revisiting is like coming home where A Céad Míle Fáilte awaits all. We stayed in our favourite room “Room 25” which has amazing views of the island church and lake as does many rooms in this family run hotel. We awoke next...

The setting is idyllic and the views are astounding. My room overlooked the New Church on the Island of Guagane Barra and the lake. The meals are scrumptious and the staff are pleasant and helpful. The room was large and well furnished but the heat needs to come on earlier in the morning. I will certainly be returning there again.

We stayed here one night during our Driftwood tour of Ireland. It has been run by the same family by generations and feels more like a B & B than a hotel. It is outside of town on a beautiful lake with a 9th century small church by that lake. There is also a 6th century monastery on grounds. The...

Excellent! This hotel was included on a trip we had with Vagabond tours (Driftwood - which I also recommend highly!). Very nice grounds with a little chapel there for reflection.
