An old hotel celebrating 80 years of providing hospitality, we chose it to celebrate our anniversary. It did not disappoint. While it is old fashioned, the proprietors have kept the standards up and gave us a room which was impeccably clean and well appointed. It had not one but two windows with views of the lake and oratory. A nice...

In this well-sited, bright and airy dining room, with a great view of the ancient chrch and lake, we were treated to a magnificent meal, food and service combined. I dined on an exquisite half-duck, impeccably prepared with a fruity sauce. The wine selection was broad, and we selected an excellent Malbeck for about €22.00. After the meal, a walk...

Lovely spot, very relaxing and unique location with a sense that it is a throw back to a time since past. The food was spectacular and worth the stay in itself. The accommodations were dated by modern standards (paper thin walls, rattling door and poor bed). I would return but perhaps not overnight. The pint wasn't the best.

It holds on to these attributes not withstanding the arrival of cars and buses...all remains calm. One's eye is drawn to the lake and the church but then the hotel; a perfect setting for a perfect soujourn. Gougane Barra hotel...

After many attempts managed to book for Sunday lunch...memorable location sitting at a table looking out over the lake which is one of my favourite spots in Ireland. Great food with choice of two or three courses and a very good wine list, friendly relaxed service with no pressure to eat up and move on. Could have sat there all...

Highly recommend this hotel and location. We were there for the Theatre by-the-lake, preceded by dinner in the hotel, which was very impressive indeed, for range, quality and value. Gougane is a truly special place, and a friendly welcome assured!
