We have been at Gougane Barra few times and never disappointing. Kate and Neil- the owners are very helpful, happy and easy going people. All staff is always happy to help. The Hotel is very very clean and surrounded by Mountains and beautiful Church on the lake. It is perfect place for wedding day, baptism, Holy Communion or Confirmation dinners... More

The hotel is located in a utopian, tranquil little part of heaven on earth. I had a lakeview room that was beautiful. The hotel itself is quite quaint and has lots of character. It's an 80 year old family run hotel and has its own unique charm. The staff are lovely people and all do their jobs calmly and diligently.... More

We recently stayed at the Gougane Barra Hotel on our last night in Ireland. The hotel is remote, yet beautiful. There is limited wi-fi, but the opportunity to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside was lovely. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. The tireless energy of Neil and his wife were the most amazing part of the experience as their... More

I stayed here for one night as part of a Driftwood tour. The owner was incredibly welcoming, even lending me a flashlight so I could go do some stargazing after dinner (which I highly recommend). The food was excellent, especially the desserts. And of course the setting is breathtaking. I only wish I could have stayed longer!

We popped into The Gougane Barra Hotel for lunch while visiting the area and we were greeted and seated by the owner Neil. What a lovely man, we had our baby boy of 10 months with us and he had lovely interaction with him. The seat was by the window and what a fantastic view we had, the lake and... More

Main dining experience was second to none(i.e. superb). We felt like we were fine dining in a 3 star hotel(but we were!).The price reflected the quality of the food and we didn't mind paying it. We will hopefully return just for the food in the near future. The lake-view room with a good view was pleasantly balanced(not "too modern" but not... More

This lovely historical inn has all the feel of another time and all the accommodations you could ask for. You are greeted at the door and taken to your room. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, both in and out. The bar is cozy and the dining is superb. The Gougane Barra is family owned and set... More

Visiting with wife. Rooms very nice and clean. Nature around is breathtaking. Host and his super chef wife amazing. Giving excellent advice on hiking, and what to do in Ireland. If you get a chance to try the John Dory in restaurant, go for it! Also giving out rowing boat and fishing gear for free. Best of all: wifi sucks,... More

My husband and I recently took an 11-day Driftwood Tour of Ireland and spent our last night at the Gougane Barra Hotel. We'd stayed a variety of fine hotels throughout the trip, but this charming, lakeside spot will always be my favorite. Our guide had told us how the hotel had been family-run for generations and that the food and... More

Having been to Gougane Barra many times over the years we decided it was time to stay in the hotel. We got the last room available on a Wednesday and whilst we were a bit concerned there was no need. The room was excellent, spacious with a beautiful view up the valley. The food was superb and the view from... More
