"Going Barefoot" is about the feeling of freedom and living in harmony with our environment. We don't refer to our island as a "resort". Our eco-lodges are about living simply and sustainably. Rather than a tourist destination run by technology, Barefoot is a concept fuelled by feeling. Our island is deliberately uncomplicated, unfussy and unpretentious. For both guests and staff, the sensational natural environment - land, sea and air - brings about a special frame of mind - carefree, receptive and aware.
Barefoot Island, known traditionally as Drawaqa Island, lies in the Southern Yasawa Islands of Fiji. The breath-taking coral gardens, situated just off the coastline are amongst the finest in the world. We offer visitors a tranquil environment, with the gentle sound of the waves lapping the shore. Our eco-lodge is the perfect destination for nature lovers in search of a one of the few Fijian islands unspoiled by man.
Guests can expect unparalleled manta ray safaris in one of the best locations for dive enthusiasts: spectacular snorkelling and excursions, beautiful coastal and forest trails, visits to nearby Fijian villages, kayaking...the list is endless.
Step onto our island and lose yourself in the world of Blue Lagoon and Castaway. Allow yourself to settle into "Fiji Time," and you'll come to discover a virtual treasure trove of things to explore - both on land and in the surrounding waters.
It's kinda like glamping but not about glamor, unless being 15 feet from the most stunning beach and amazing snorkling reef is glamorous to you. It was to us and we stayed in a beach Bure there being treated like family from the friendly kind staff. Stunning diving and a beautiful bustling live reef on Sun Rise beach, next to another lovely Manta Beach and finished off by Sun Set beach all within a 2 minute walk. It is simple and I would recommend checking out the marine biologist and local guides for support with exploring the reef, though we just wandered out every day and found sharks, sting rays, and a bazillion fish in every color! Food plan is a must as there is nothing there except the resort. Bring a deck of cards or enjoy the crab races, sing alongs and sweet fun the Fiji hosts supply.…
I spent a week with my sister in Fiji and Barefoot Manta was definitely the best resort. The island has beautiful reefs and the activities that the resort offers are fantastic. The room was cleaned, the food was fabulous and the staff are very friendly. My sister and I had a lovely stay there and we hope to come back in a future.
An incredible resort. Definitely recommend. Solo female traveller. Spent 4 nights here. Food was fabulous. Breakfast is a selection of pastries, pancakes, eggs, beans, sausages and fruit. For lunch & tea you are given 3 options - usually meat, fish or veggie. On other days it’s a buffet. I’m a vegetarian. The food was always delicious. I was worried the food would be bland but everything I had was lovely. Snorkelling - equipment is free with the daily charge for food, WiFi & equipment. Definitely do some snorkelling!! The best reef I have seen out of all the places I’ve travelled! I also did the marine bio tour which I would recommend. You spend an hour with a marine biologist discussing the coral, the threats, their mission and what they are doing for coral conservation. You then go out and snorkel. You are shown lots of different coral & other sea life. Really recommend! The marine biologists are very passionate and have an abundance of knowledge they want to share. Also did a night snorkel. You get taken out with torches and the guide has a UV light which will show up all the beautiful colours of the reef. You will see all the amazing creatures that come out in the night! You can also go off on your own as it’s just off the beach to some of the best snorkelling sites! Staff - cannot do enough. They are all so friendly! Always remembered by name! Lovely lovely people! Accommodation - I stayed in a 4 bed dorm. Basic little hut on the beach. Beautiful! Toilet & shower facilities are great. Only one plug in the hut but only me & one other in the room. It was rainy season when I was there so hut can be quite loud at night. Mosquitos nets provided. Activities - daily talks from the marine biologists, walks, village tours, snorkelling trips and some evening entertainment. WiFi - included in price you pay when you arrive. Not good for the size of the resort. Varies of being okay and not working at all. All in all a lovely trip and would definitely recommend this place. If I’m back I would stay here for a longer time for sure! The resort is well maintained & beautiful. 5 star from me!…
We loved staying at Barefoot Manta, it’s a quite peaceful island with great people. We had a beachfront bure wich was so lovely! The reef is absolutely great and the best we saw at the Yasawas. Night snorkelling is a must do! The food is also very good. We wished we could stay longer.
