This is a reasonable hotel for a short stay to break a journey and for a launch point to Mt Fuji. The rooms a typical business type hotel - small rooms with limited free floor space for luggage. Bathrooms are small but functional. Beds are on the hard side. I had been sleepoing on tatami mat floors in Japanese Inn's so I was looking for a softer bed. Alas it was not to be had. Hotel staff are helpful, with a reasonable level of english procificency. Breakfast is busy. There is a queue at certain times for tables. Both Japanese and Western style food is available from the buffet. There are a number of restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the hotel.

We travelled by local bus to Lake Kawagouchiko for the day. Is a good day trip if breaking a journey as it offers spectacular view of Mt Fuju across the lake. A tourist bus ticket that allows unlimited stops at points of interest is sold at the station on arrival.

Not bad, above the average in the area. A very simple hotel, without a proper restaurant or any other facilities, but the rooms were well-kept and clean, which was very positive. A decente breakfast too, with options for both Japanese and Westerners. There are nice restaurants nearby, so this was good too. Friendly service, helpful. I would stay again, recommended.

Stayed many times previously ticks all the boxes for a Japanese hotel. The Route-Inn is always a consistent offering.

With the very high number of foreign and westerners staying at this hotel as it is close to Fuji Speedway, they could after all these years offer a better pillow selection.

Some rooms offer a massive view of Mount Fuji..just go to be lucky to get one of those, otherwise car park view it is.

It's decent enough; beds are very hard but I personally don't mind. Room is on the small side but nothing unusual for Japan. Customer service is a bit lacking, but I didn't come here to make friends. Yeah, nothing amazing either way about it; the free breakfast and close proximity to the station are enough that I'd stay again if I was in the area.

Didnt end up using this hotel overnight as we got trapped on Fuji the night before but got there nice and early when we came down and they had kept our bags for us, had a shower and nap and had a great breakfast downstairs.

Lovely room, exactly what was needed after a long 24hrs on Fuji.

I booked this hotel at the last minute before going on a Mt Fuji day hike (buses leave several times a day from Gotemba train station to Mishurimi 5th station and to Gotemba 5th station). I would have preferred a hotel in the center but they were all fully booked in early August. The hotel is nice, regular rooms, good wifi and fine breakfast. The only negative comment I have is that the beds are very hard. This hotel is located about 2 km away from the city center, and the best way to go downtown is to take a taxi, which costs ~1000 Yen. Walking is possible but not very pleasant since it’s mostly along large busy roads. The hotel is surrounded by chain restaurants (Mc Donalds, KFC and Betsy’s diner) but there is a smaller Italian restaurant just across the parking lot that serves very tasty pasta dishes. Finally, the advantage of being out of town is that you can see Mt Fuji from the hotel. Ask for a room with view on the volcano!

The semi-double room was very clean, and had a fantastic window view of Mount Fuji, the hotel staff gave me the room with a window view of Mount Fuji even though I did not book for one!
Staff were attentive and helpful, and were able to communicate with basic English.
The breakfast provided isn't fantastic, but it's not bad either.
Only bad point I could think of is that you'll have to walk a fair distance to the hotel from the JR Gotemba/Gotenba Station -- tiring if you have a huge luggage in tow.

I have been in japan quite a few times in the past few years for motor racing events and always stayed in a Route Inn when in Gotemba when events were held at the Fuji International Circuit.
I loved the convenience of Route Inns with their locations as restaurants and shopping was always within walking distance. I also like the Japanese breakfasts and the room facilities though the bathrooms could be a little bit larger.
I've found the staff are always helpful to tourists like me.

Hotel Route Gotenba is a solid, although average hotel for travelers. The staff is very helpful with several who can speak fluent English. However - do not believe the reviews claiming the hotel is a 5 minute walk from the JR station. The hotel is a good 20 minute walk from the station. The hotel has a coin operated laundry that works very well. My son and I stayed here for one night before and after climbing Mt. Fuji and it worked quite well.
Breakfast is very traditional Japanese. So, be prepared. The good news is that there is a McDonalds and a Denny's right next door. As for Denny's, again do not believe the reviews that say Denny's in Japan is not good. True, the menu is different. But, it is not traditional Japanese - It's more an American version of Japanese food which is entirely fine. Travelers who want to find food that is entirely American should either not visit Japan or be prepared to eat every meal at the McDonald's next door.
Finally, perhaps the most important tip for visiting Gotenba is regarding finding an ATM machine that will work with your card from the USA. While ATMs are at several stores and banks, we found the only one that would allow us to withdraw cash was a the local Post Office. There was no problem at the hotel, restaurants and grocers accepting our debit and credit cards - VISA and MasterCard - but withdrawing cash was a problem. Just ask directions to the Post Office and you with be fine. We learned this on our own after the hotel a local cab driver and workers at two banks went out of their way trying to help us get cash. As I've found before traveling, the local postal service came through for us and saved the day!
