Detailed Reviews
Been under new management for 6 weeks. Open every day from around noon till late at night. Presently main bar service, but focussing on establishing 30 bed accommodation for approximately $30 a night per bed. Has a range of entertainment too - music on weekends etc. New owner Kel. His main vision is to provide a place for conversation and interaction. All looks good for the future of this country pub

I had been here a few nights when a friend pointed me to the review written by 'Dad181' and asked why I would stay here. On reading the aforementioned review I can only imagine it is an attempt at sabotage. I have enjoyed several meals - Nimmity (beef) bangers and mash. Kanga (kangaroo) bangers and mash, a supreme pizza, and a lasagne - all have been well presented and thoroughly enjoyable. I have also overheard other diners say how much they enjoyed their meals. I would also point out that there is a recommendation from Restaurant Guru on the bar.
The beers I've been served were cold and I was happy to discover that the beers on tap includes Resches. The Federal is an original member of the Resches Appreciation Society.
The comment that the pub is under new management is incorrect as Kel, the owner, has been here for about 10 years. He is an affable bloke who is welcoming and polite.
The rooms are a bit basic but warm and comfortable.
In short, a charming old world experience in a traditional country pub built in 1890 as a coach inn. I'm happy to recommend it to one and all.

Stayed in Nimmitabel and this was the only place opened for food. The bar man was rude, abrupt with absolutely no personality. The tap was not drinkable, we ordered food at 8.00pm and received it at 9.30pm. None of the food was edible, the burgers had bun you could not bite or cut through, the beef pattie was the cheapest possible which have been frozen for a long time. The Bangers and Mash were 3 burnt snags, rock hard mash with cold frozen vegetables. There is nothing good to say about this place. It has new owners who seem to have no idea, so be careful when reading older reviews.

Great historic country pub.
Busy night due to annual Steam Punk festival and Friday night live music.
Kelvin the publican and Tooth friendly. Good pub meals. Comfortable bed with electric blanks and heated room. Typical pub accommodation with shared bathrooms. We will be back.

As someone else wrote.. if you’re a princess then may not be for you - but if you appreciate history and see the beauty in this place you’ll remember it long after your stay!

+1
We stopped late, after a very long day & were shown to our room before joining a few locals at the bar for a couple of drinks & to hear the last few songs of the visiting band. The owner is very friendly & filled us in on the history of the hotel. It's being renovated, slowly & he's doing a great job. I'd happily stay here again, I really enjoyed the atmosphere

We stopped there for lunch just on our way to Eden. The bartender was really friendly and helpful. We ended up staying there the whole afternoon playing pool and enjoying the crisp air. 👍👍Lovely place

At first we thought his joint was a haunted house- it's a heratage listed building and the grounds are a bit messy. However we were greeted by the friendly publican and quickly shown to our rooms. Rooms were clean and decent for the price of $60 (summer prices). The pub atmosphere was great with a friendly local dropping in for a few beers with us. This joint isn't a 5 star place, but neither were we looking for that. Clean, decent and friendly place to crash while on a road trip or exploring the high country.
