Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looking for a real life Savannah experience in Guyana? This is a working ranch started from scratch over 30 years ago and still operated by the original owners.

The accommodations are basic by city standards but clean - food is very good -we had running water and indoor private toilet and shower.

There is power to charge your phones but you have to climb the mountain to try to get a cell signal (we did not bother) No AC required due to dry/cool Savannah breezes.

We enjoyed exceptional conversations with owners Tommie and Joan who have local area, greater Guyana, and world knowledge from their own experiences and visitors.

My partner and I have ranch/ farm knowledge from Canada and enjoyed comparing and contrasting the vastly different methods used.

Joan is the best of hostesses - always suggesting activities that matched our interests - horseback rides, giant anteater hunts, watching the cattle being worked, walks in the forest, swimming hole, fishing, nights out under the stars and cool breezes.

For those that like to ride, the horses were responsive, calm and sure footed at any gait. I was surprised to find that Ol’ Harry was actually a 5 year old stallion.

If you need to escape the chaos of Georgetown - this is the best retreat I found. Any tour of this part of SA - should include a trip to the Savannah.

I stayed for two nights at the ranch, which is nestled below a beautiful range of hills (saddle mountain) and by a meandering creek. Both inspire exploration! Joan and Tom, the hosts, were extremely friendly, had great stories and served up some delicious local meals and a spicy curry. If you are looking for an off-the-beaten-track ranching experience in this part of Guyana then I would highly recommend a few nights staying here. If you are lucky, you may also see the Tamnuwa (giant anteater)!
