We travelled to Villa Bellarena from Mar.06th to the 13th. The resort was as it was last year the villas are big spacous and well keep. The maid was great and we had a different towel creation everyday. The staff at the restaurant are the best and they catery to evry wish. One of the dwonfalls was the pool was total empty for the whole week and the food was not as good as last year, though we found something to eat every meal. The lady at the omelette grill in the morning did a great job They suttle to the other beaches for free and the beaches there are beautiful with soft white sand. We will probable go back next year as this a very beautiful isand with great people working at each of the resorts.
Comfortable bungalow, lots of space. Rather far away from the main building, good ten minutes walk to the buffet restaurant. Had to take a shuttle bus and ferry to the beach. Not too crowded in early January. Staff very friendly and attentive.
The bungalows at Bellarena were gorgeous and so spacious. The grounds were well take care of and the entire staff at the resort were so so lovely. The food is a complete different matter, out of 14 days I was sick 6 as were a bunch of people we chatted with at the resort. It was either cold or the same as every other day, We had to learn to be very selective as to what we dared eat and that's just not right.Often the buns and bread were dried out and there was a very limited amount of fruit..The bugs and flies were very abundant and the fogging to get rid of them is horrendous as the plane flies overhead with those nasty chemicals. We were wondering why Iguana and Bellarena were only half filled...I will not return to the island again because there was just too much wrong
Bella Isla Resort feels like a beach home away from home. This was our second time going and we wanted to see what Bellarena was like. Bellarena feels like an exclusive bungalow hideaway from the winter blues (depression. I HATE the cold). It's pretty much right on the beach if the tide isn't too high (the hotel gives you a free transfer to another beach if this is the case) and everything you need to do absolutely nothing is right at your fingertips. The bungalows are HUGE!!! There is a wraparound deck that includes 2 lounge chairs and a hammock. Inside, there is a 2 seater couch, single seater couch, tv, mini fridge, 2 double beds pushed together, 1 king size bed, electronic safe inside the closet, iron, full ironing board in the washroom, double sinks, double shower stall with 2 shower heads, separate toilet with door AND an outdoor shower at the back door. The cleaning ladies always leave such cute towel art on your bed after they make up your room. The food at Bellarena bar is great (and this is coming from a vegetarian)! Drinks are always flowing, bartender/server Leony is the BEST. Chef Nancy cooks for you as if you were her own family; she is just so sweet, doesn't speak much, if any, English but you'd understand what she's saying anyway. The house band provides daily live music throughout the resort to give you the soundtrack of Cuban music. Nightly shows are entertaining and are interactive at the end. The dancers are REALLY talented and the entertainment staff are very engaging. Most customer facing staff speak English and/or French, on top of Spanish (of course). I will definitely be back next year. Villa Bellarena is AMAZING!!!…
Cabin 2 at the Bellarina is likely one of the best on island, the outdoor shower was my favorite, perfect for washing off the carribean sea after a morning swim in mostly traquil blue waters, there are no locals, except for a fair number of cats and dogs but long term workers told us the "reef broke" during a storm and changed the way the currents flow a few years back which resulted in higher water levels in front of the hotel. The wooden pathway from our room decends thru a couple of levels of stars that allows swim access in any reasonable weather and the shelves carved out of the stabilized coral reef provides an awesom suntanning perch. The front desk provides a return chit to Playa Sirena on request which incudes a boat ride across the lagoon. The Beaches here are absolute nirvanna, and there is a cute little museum near the marina detailing the development of Cayo Largo which made no mention of it being the conception place of the prime minister, but did mention it was Castro's favorite playgound in the 60's, so who knows ? All the staff and most of the food need to float in by boat a couple of times a week, so if the tomatoes did not make it , they might in a day or two, Tomatoes are big news at Cayo Largo and dont last long, most everything else comes in a can. Given all the grumbling about gastroenteritis, our cuba survival diet involves watching our food being cooked," if it is not cooked in front of you, you may get sick from it " is a pretty good rule of thumb here. Radish and cabbage omelette are pretty good if you are hungry and pasta cooked in front of you keeps you alive and healthy, cus you only have a few days at the most beautiful beaches, even by cuban standards It's really a bucket list place if beaches are your thing, the ability to safely walk for miles on natural sand beaches littered with starfish and conch's just is not found anywhere else, No Light pollution here, Milky way seaside viewing recommended Thank You Cayo Largo…
