This place is truly a treasure. The cost was reasonable. The quick proximity from the airport couldn’t be better. The hotel itself was kept very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They treated everyone special and it was evident by watching other guests interact. This is the type of resort you could travel to solo and yet never feel alone. The food was the biggest shock! It was great! The Diana bar and pool was fun to be at during the day but you had the option to hang out at the original pool which was quieter and kept meticulously clean. The cabana’s were nice but it was rather dark inside and the balcony was quite small. Depending on the location of your room, a fair amount of walking was unavoidable. The beach was pretty much non existent but a free shuttle to playa sirena went three times a day. I read the reviews before I left, someone referred to this as a summer camp for adults, I couldn’t agree more. My only regret.....I wish I found this place twenty years earlier.…
Myself and my family stayed at the Villa Iguana Mar 13 -20 What a lovely holiday small quaint resort with amazing staff. Food was ok actually some of it quite good . Rooms dated but clean Loved all staff Most beautiful beaches ever Staff were amazing Cheers to Angel aka Tattoo Millie Sergio Alex You all made our trip Xoxo
I really enjoyed my stay here, I like that they have little bungalows near the ocean. The sound of the waves could be heard from my room was a nice way to fall asleep. The food was good but then again I’m not too picky . Very friendly staff , never had to wait for anything. Although there’s not much of a beach there is a option to be taken to a very nice beach by bus right from the hotel. For the price I would say it was worth it , I had a good time and would visit again
Just returned from Villa Iguana Jan 24 -Feb 07 2020. Was a nice relaxing two weeks, enjoyed our stay for the most part. However there are a few reasons we will likely not return to Cayo Largo. First let me say we are very easy to please and most definitely accustomed to the way things run in Cuba, this was Trip # 27 to Cuba but first to Cayo Largo . The positives are always the warm and friendly people, amazing weather, clean air to breathe and feeling safe at all times. The negatives for us on this particular trip was the nuisance flies..... all day, everyday no matter where you go they seem to be there ! We visited other resorts and it was an island wide problem for our two weeks! Some places seemed to be managing it a little better than Villa Iguana but it was still a problem. Made dining a real pain. Not pleasant to be constantly fanning your food for the duration of you meal. We originally booked an ocean front room and were put in one of those wooden two story Cabana type units but found them too dark and stuffy ! Smelled bad in the washroom and balcony was so tiny and frail looking . So we moved the next day to a unit closer to reception/pool area that are concrete buildings. Much lighter and brighter interiors and not that musty smell. We had a lovely lady "Olemy" who took very good care of our room each day and was very artistic with her daily towel art. I don't think we had one repeat in two weeks ! Her husband Ernesto works at the snack bar and makes the best pizza and panzerotti , delicious 😋. Even when they ran out of cheese, he still made it taste good ! The Ranchon that is open for lunch and then switches to the A La Carte for the evening meal was nice. We ate there at least 5 or 6 times for dinner . Only once for lunch as we were normally at the beach and skipped lunch . Rosita, David ,Nano , Maribel all are lovely . Many thanks to Rosita for a lovely Anniversary table for two she did for us , beautiful. It's the only option there for dinner other than the buffet and they don't limit how many times you go , as long as you pre-book it. The main buffet ..... very limited selection and very repetitive but you won't go hungry ! We always managed to be able to put a meal together ! It's just such a shame they didn't have better things in place to control the fly situation. The food was not covered and there was no sign of fly traps etc. Not very appetizing and certainly not very sanitary. Thankfully we didn't get sick, but I know of a few others who were not as lucky ! The buffet staff were all very lovely and do the best with what they have . A huge thank you to Suly who made our dining experience a pleasure despite the flies ! She is a gem and always made us feel so welcome . Because it is a separate island they tend to run out of things fairly often , sometimes it's weather related (to rough for boat to deliver goods) sometimes there simply is none available at that particular time ! We ran out of eggs for 3 days , no cheese for a couple of days , one day there was no bottled water to put in the rooms . Thankfully that was only one day, next day water was back 👍. Very limited fruit. Never saw a banana in two weeks ! Most of the fruit was canned peaches, pears , fruit cocktail. They did have pineapple, papaya and grapefruit but it was hit and miss as to how tasty it was . Nightly entertainment..... not much of it ! I would say out of the two weeks maybe 3 or 4 nights were decent . The rest was below average in comparison to all other trips we have had over the years. This is an area that Villa Iguana really needs to improve on. After dinner I think most people enjoy a little entertainment while on vacation, you don't want to just eat dinner and then either drink at the bar or go to your room ! They need more dancing before and after the "show" and it's nice when the actual dancers come out and mingle /dance with the guests. The beach ..... well there really is not much of a beach to talk about . The first week we were able to climb down the rocks to get to a bit of a beach ( wooden stairs are all broken ) but the second week the tides were high and it was windy and very rough so the better option was to take a bus to the marina then boat to Playa Sirena . Very nice large beach. Bus and boat do 3 trips per day . You pay 2.00 CUC for a beach chair if you want one . Things we missed :- bicycles at the hotel to go for a ride for an hour or two , horse and buggy rides, horse back riding , visiting with locals in the quaint villages and having lunch or dinner with them in their homes ( locals don't live here, only hotel workers ) it was strange not seeing animals roaming around grazing ! No cows, horses, goats or pigs like you usually see in Cuba. So if you are ok with a very low key vacation, with very little to do but beach or pool then maybe this place will be for you, but if you want the real Cuban experience....... go somewhere else.…
The staff at Villa Iguana are truly beautiful people. They do a fantastic job at making you feel welcome almost like an exended family. The cleaning staff, the reception Pedro and the other gentleman and the lovely lady working in the garden all make for such a pleasurable experience each day. The bartender Felix is absolutely delightful. He smiles with each and every drink he makes and his beaming smile is totally infectious as is William and the Pizzaman and "Prince" who wore black and had a great haircut. The activity staff also are great. Johan, Johna, Shala, Angel and all the team are just great amigos. The shows were beautiful, fun, and they can dance muy bueno! My personal favourite was when Shela and her friend did the flamenco. WOW!!!!Ithought I was in Spain. The two swimming pools are nice for swimming. For our first four days the beach was there and the ocean was heavenly. After the full moon the ocean became quite rough and the beach was lost. However, after a walk of about ten minutes or less the beach was available all the way to the Sol hotel at the end. Then lunch and al la carte dinners at le Ranchon were hosted and staffed with the most attentive service. Ahmed, Isabel, Rubiel. Angel, Rosita and Emilio were always on top of their best to look after everyone so well. The chef and kitchen staff always did their best every moment of the day. The only suggestion for owner and management is also to provide a bar at le Ranchon. They served beer and wine only with the meals as well as other non-alcoholic drink. It would have been a lot better if there was a gin and tonic, a mojito, a maguerita etc.etc and also an after dinner digestif i.e. brandy, rum anejo, cognac etc etc. Hope we will see that there will be a full bar at le Ranchon the next time we come back. Muchas gracias mis amigos in Villa Iguana, Cayo Largo...la gente muy guapas y guapos!!…
