Detailed Reviews
Fontelunga is a stunning hotel that feels more like a family home. From the moment we arrived, we were shown amazing hospitality that made Fontelunga our favourite hotel of our honeymoon. A highlight was their weekly dinner party - it felt like being surrounded by friends and family in someone's lounge room! It was a cosy, intimate and fun night. We were given glasses of Prosecco by the hotel owners and served up antipasti homecooked straight out of the oven. The breakfast room/dining area/lounge of the hotel feels like being at home and we loved sharing a meal with the other guests and getting to know people from all over the world and all walks of life.
The hotel itself is a beautiful building that is so authentically Tuscan. Our room was clean, well accommodated and beautifully decorated. We were in a villa just next to the main building and it felt very private. We loved playing with the puppy Georgina and the other dogs on the gorgeous green grounds. Those dogs made us so happy! If you are a dog lover you will be in heaven at Fontelunga. It was a bit chilly for us to swim in the pool in October but it looked divine. We loved walking around the olive groves that surround the property.
The included breakfast was delicious and with plenty to choose from. I especially loved having home cooked scrambled eggs with cheese and cold meats every day!
The staff were so, so helpful and wonderful to chat to. A big thank you especially to Kitty and Roberta. They helped us with everything we needed. They were particularly helpful in organising our day trips for us and giving us plenty of recommendations and information about where to visit in our hire car. We got to Fontelunga via train to Arezzo and then hire car. Even coming from Australia we found the driving to be just fine in the beautiful Tuscan region. We loved exploring the local area and found Fontelunga to be the perfect base for our stay. Our favourites were the towns of Cortona and Montepulciano. We loved visiting Florence via train from Arezzo too. Kitty and Roberta even recommended restaurants and wineries for us and organised the bookings. They truly treated us like royalty while we were there.
Fontelunga was the perfect place for our honeymoon in Tuscany. It was romantic, private but still had a wonderful family feel from the dinner party. Thank you so much to everyone at Fontelunga for making our honeymoon a dream come true. We loved it so much and cannot wait to come back one day in our futures.

My family and I stayed at the Villa Scannagallo for about a week.
We were 5 people and wow... what a time we´ve had!
This might be the most romantic and beautiful scenery you'll ever have in a hotel.
The hosts (Paolo and Phillip) are both charismatic and charming characters that really want you to feel at home for your stay at their amazing hotel Fontelunga.
Every morning we drove 5 minutes from our villa to the hotel where the employees (each and everyone extremely nice!) prepared a little breakfast with lots of good coffee, refreshing juices, homemade pie or cake and everything a sweet tooth could dream of.
Our villa was set in the stunning countryside of Tuscany where you could enjoy the view from every room of the house - and the infinity pool. ;)
The interior design has a modern Italian flair where you really get to feel comfortable.
Even though we like going out for dinner, we used the kitchen a lot as well and Paolo and Phillip prepared a little welcome basket from which we got some of our ingredients.
The highlight of our stay at Fontelunga was without any doubt the dinner party on Tuesday.
Simply amazing! The atmosphere, the people, the food...
The hosts really care about bringing people together and we had such a fun time talking with people from ALL over the world.
Villa Fontelunga is THE place for you if you enjoy getting to know interesting people and two amazingly funny hoteliers that will make you feel right at home in the middle of beautiful Tuscany.
We will be back!

We have spent three nights at Fontelunga, relaxing and exploring the surroundings. We had a very nice time. The atmosphere of the place is very informal and Paolo, Philip, Roberta and the entire crew make you feel at home.
We liked the space around the hotel, both the nice garden and the oliveto, as well as the possibility to walk outside the property in the countryside.
The location of the hotel is very convenient with a lot of interesting villages to visit (not only the famous ones!) and nice places where to go for dinner. Trust the suggestions of Paolo!
When we visited Fontelunga the weather was extremely hot so we have also very much enjoyed the nice swimming pool. We had a relaxing time and we will certainly be back.

we booked a whole week here with a toddler, hoping to have a relaxing time. This was not the case.
The website is completely out of date, as as in the information shared with Mr & Mrs Smith, which most guests go through to book, as is the app they make you download on arrival, and the information in the hotel.
Contrary to what it says, there is NO FOOD available. not for lunch or dinner. just a sad breakfast (for the price of the hotel, you;d expect to at least be able to have fresh fruit/some variety/a cooked option)
There are also FIVE dogs, which are not mentioned anywhere online. One of them BIT a guest's face. When we mentioned we were concerned as we have a toddler who is scared of dogs, they told us they can't remove the dogs so we should find a different hotel.
They poo everywhere and yap, and swim in the pool with the guests.
There are never any towels available and no one ever checks how the guests are by the swimming pool.
There was broken glass by the pool.
The mini bar is rarely stocked up. Dirty things aren't cleared after breakfast.
The hotel seems to be manned by underage family members and family friends doing work experience over the Summer, but they spend their time mainly in the pool, so it's hard to know if they are on duty or not..
The website says there are TVs and music docking stations in each room. There aren't.
The communal dinner on Tues & Fridays is 75 Eur per person, and it is revolting. You get pasta in a tin of tomato sauce and a sorbet for pudding.
I believe the owners (Paolo & Philip) have opened a new hotel up the road called Borgo 69, and have neglected Fontelunga. They also probably had a different offering before covid, but have not amended their materials to reflect this. They have also not changed their prices to reflect that it is essentially a self-catering villa that you have to share with other people. When we asked whether we could use the self-catering facilities seeing that we were stranded, they said no because we are not insured?!
As you can imagine - this is not what we signed up for, and it could have so easily been avoided if they just put on their website what is actually available rather than what used to be available.
Maddeningly, we booked directly through the hotel so had to pay up front. We bitterly regret this decision as we could not get back any money.
If wed only gone for a day or two without children, it would have been annoying but not the end of the world. However, a week with a baby is an entirely different matter.
I hope this helps other people to avoid making the same mistakes as us.

Dear Emelia and Frederic, We are very sorry you were unable to enjoy your holiday with us and were so unsatisfied, though we’re rather confused: We have 4 and happily welcome dogs, CLEARLY NOTED ON OUR WEB SITE, having guests returning because their children love the homely atmosphere and the dogs. Sometimes, which shouldn’t happen, children let the dogs into the gated pool area, we do not personally encourage or allow this to happen. I think we all had different experiences during the lock down and I have noticed that most, positively embrace their new ability to travel whilst others choose a more negative approach ……. focusing on sh…t (cleaned up immediately btw). Wonderfully, our reviews reflect the camp in which most of our guests are and thank you all so much for your truly lovely praise and enthusiasm. I’m happy that responding here gave me an opportunity to see just how many people posted. - Apologies and thank you to Mirko – (our chief) who hand makes all our pasta sauces and has worked so hard this season. - Also I feel privileged to have enjoyed the company of several friends children who have now “come of age”, being able to do work experience with us. Thank you all. I’ll leave you with Emelias email to us: Da: Emilia Inviato: domenica 31 luglio 2022 11:16 A: Info - Villa Fontelunga Oggetto: For the attention of Paolo & Philip “Dear Paolo and Philip, We wanted to express our gratitude for understanding our situation and taking care of our bill accordingly. The gesture is certainly appreciated. We think you have a beautiful house, pool and general set up. We felt warmly welcomed by you and all the guests we met were great……………… Have a lovely summer Emilia and frederic and we wish you all the best for the new baby coming soon . P&P

Beautiful villa with an even better view. Quiet & relaxing, all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast in the morning of pastries, cereals, eggs, coffee was delicious. It's kind of like a big share house with the other guests but with so much space you don't really need to interact with anyone if you don't want to. Would definitely recommend and go back if I ever get the chance.
My only suggestion if you have to go with kids like we did, take your own snacks as there isn't really anything nearby if you want to grab some extra snacks or anything. Drinks are through an honour system, each room marks off a sheet as they have them or you can bring your own for a corkage fee. All gets tallied up at the end. There's also a couple of small dogs & a cat to keep you company. Loved our stay!

We had a very lovely time at Fontelunga Hotel & Villas. You really feel like you are at someone's home and the team there are very helpfuly with recommedations. The villa and the pool are beautiful and the location is very good. Very near to many lovely Italian towns nearby.
The dinners held at the Villa are great as well and the food is delicious. My only comment is that it would be good to know what is included with the price. I thought it was a fixed price that included a drink and dessert. On check-out it was a bit of surprise to see these charges. We saw the charge for the prosecco/sparkling water (which I thought was part of the dinner as it was brought out and offered to us) and if I knew this I would have chosen another starter drink and gone with the inhouse sparkling water. Yes - I should have asked the question as well so I am part to blame too. LIkewise, similar situation with the dessert. it was a minor thing that if communicated in advance it would not have been a surprise to us on check-out. Besides this, I highly recommend staying here.

We had a wonderful few days staying at the Fontelunga Hotel and Villas property in beautiful Tuscany. The villa itself is quite magnificent, and our room was large with stunning views over the fields. Our private bathroom had two basins, a bath and shower, with luxurious toiletries, and large white fluffy towels. One night we had dinner at their new restaurant, walking distance from the Villa, and the food was superb, the wine incredible, and the service second to none. I can't recommend Fontelunga Hotel And Villas enough. Paolo, Phillip and Roberta are the best!

Our group had a fabulous time staying at the Gallo and Galetta villas. The beauty and privacy was ideal for a small group. The location was so convenient to the enchanting little towns in Tuscany and we also could lounge by the private pool and embrace the sunshine. Many yummy restaurants are nearby and we also enjoyed shopping in local markets and preparing a few meals in the villas' kitchens. When thinking of a return visit to Tuscany, I will always think of Fontelunga Hotel and Villas.

We had a fantastic stay at Borgo 69 . The location is perfect - within easy driving distance of all of the "must see" locations but far enough away to enjoy authentic Italian village life. We stayed in a one bedroom villa which was extremely spacious , beautifully furnished and included an extensive private patio area with seating and dining. The bed was also extremely comfortable and the linens were excellent quality. We enjoyed the ability to prepare simple meals in the full kitchen but also the complimentary breakfast which is served at the onsite restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us lots of great suggestions for places to visit and things to see. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys great service and beautiful surroundings .

We stayed in Villa Galetto for a few nights. We had this very luxurious house for ourselves while sharing the swimming pool with an other family. Though it’s a self catering villa we found a welcome basket in the kitchen and cold water and wine in the fridge waiting and this allowed us to cook our first meal without the need to do any shopping. We visited the hotel a few times and spent time chilling in the garden as well. The scenery is amazing, a true Tuscan paradise. There were 4 very cute dogs around. These dogs are one of the reasons we keep visiting this hidden gem. We participated at cocktails before the Tuesday dinner and found the owners very charming and engaging even after the covid struggles we all faced. We’d like to thank Felix for being such an attentive bartender, looking after the guest like a pro. Also would like to mention Paulo junior who was very engaging. Hopefully we’ll return very soon and already looking forward to the Tuesday dinner party and the cuddly Lilly and Otto.
