This accomodation was truly a mixed bag for my partner and I.

Firstly, we organised a transfer from Hanoi to the accomodation but once we arrived at the Ben Beo pier, we ended up having to call to see how we were getting picked up at a deserted pier. Lucky we had a local sim card and called the hotel. Following on from this, it was especially difficult to organise return boat trips from cat ba town to the resort. We ended up just calling a lot of the time (and to their credit a boat would show up within 10min).

We booked the deluxe sea view suite which was advertised to have a view of the bay. However our room (403) had a view partially obstructed by a palm tree which was disappointing for the price.

The rooms themselves were fine however could do with some cleaning and general upkeep. The taps were rusty, and I found something suspiciously like mouse droppings on our bed two days. However, having the waves on the shore as you fall asleep was amazing.

The lunch and dinner food was decently priced but mediocre. The included breakfast buffet was great though, with an egg station and an array of fresh fruit and bread.

Lastly, on checkout as we inspected our bill, we noticed that 2 food dishes and 2 drinks were charged to our room which we hadn't had. We argued we had been in cat ba town at the time when they pulled out the receipts but this did not dissuade them. Afted 20min of arguing with staff we ended up paying the extra $22 because we had a flight to catch and were running late.

In conclusion, I would stay here if you do not plan on visiting the rest of cat ba and instead want a nice secluded beach to relax on (which it delivered on).

We were a group of 8 friends who came for one night for my husband's birthday. The resort is lovely, staff are very helpful and the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable!
Our biggest problem was the price of food and drinks. We understand that it's a resort and we expected to pay more obviously but our very simple vietnamese meals were literally triple the amount we pay back in Hanoi. (For example, we paid 50k for peanuts and in Hanoi we pay 15k.) They also charged us 100k for a boat transfer to another boat literally 100 meters away from the resort.
Beach had a bit of litter but I've definitely been to other beaches in Vietnam that have been MUCH worse.
Altogether we had a very comfortable stay at the beach and the massive friendly golden retriever made up for the cons :D

If you are looking for an island paradise to escape Hanoi or Cities in the North of Vietnam; Monkey Island is where you need to go. We enjoyed the most stunning views, comfortable accommodation and such kindness showed to us by the staff namely, Thang and Lee. You will also be greeted by Mup, the most loving golden retriever island Dog you have ever come across ! Secluded sandy beaches in a private cover of clear water, was where we spent most of our time. I would also like to mention that the Vietname food we had was spectacular, fresh ingredients and authentic flavours. We would like to mention that we ordered something off the menu that was not quite to our tastes and they staff was so kind to strike it from our final bill. Monkey Island resort is the perfect destination for relaxation and to experience all the beauty that Cat Ba bay has to offer. We cannot wait to come back !

Having sent friends there in the past we wanted to spend a weekend to judge ourselves how this 'hidden treasure' is. Well that has been a real disappointment. Like in many places the owners are more interested in money than in giving their guests the experience from a quite small island in the Halong region. They are extending in any direction. We booked a 'villa' on the beach that finally showed up to be a house with 4 apartments, 2 up and 1 down, no privacy. The price per night average vnd. 2.750.000 equal to US$ 118. For that you become a simple room and a simple bathroom. No water cooker, no instant coffee or tea bags, a mini cooler with only water that is overcharged........just 2 towels and the room cleaning was no more than throwing 2 new towels on the bed. Food okay but to expensive and no western food at all. Don't expect the dish that you liked to be the same next time; there can be a different cook!

If you think you can relax and enjoy the sounds of nature; we experienced that they accepted a group and bringing big speakers to the small beach, playing that loud that you can hear it all over the place and than starting with karaoke.
My suggestion is to leave this for Vietnamese people that like it but westerners will be disappointed and see it as a waste of money.

My wife and me spend including the room over vnd 9.000.000 equal to almost 400 US$. And if you ask for an invoice they say you need to pay 10% more for the tax........

After being all over Vietnam, we definitely expected this place to be heaven. The view is extremely beautiful, that's for sure. But the resort itself needs to improve in so many ways. Let's start from the fact that it is really boring there. Nothing to do at all. We stayed for 3 nights and it felt like a week. If the weather isn't good enough, you cannot do anything around here. The rooms are pretty disgusting, the bathroom is dirty and old and the water is either boiling or cold, no warm water. They charge you extra for almost everything. The worst thing they did was, they charged us twice (!!!) For a half day trip we did once. The lady at the front desk told us the 3 hour trip is 60 usd per person (which is crazy from the beginning, it was not AT ALL worth it. 2 hours on a boat, 0.5 hour fishing village, 0.5 hour kayaking) so 120 usd for the both of us. When checking out I noticed they charged us 240 usd. It took them a while and many phone calls to one another just to admit their mistake. The taxi boat to take you to Cat Ba Island is approximately 200,000 dong for a couple one way. That's the only way you can get out of the resort if you want to go eat, withdraw money, buy something or just go for a walk. The restaurant is like the only place to be there, and it is absolutely disgusting. The food was HORRIBLE. The breakfast they served barely had anything to offer. Overall, we constantly had this feeling that they're trying to fool us. In conclusion, I wouldn't go there again that's for sure.

This is the perfect location. They provide a free boat from the main island (Cat Ba) to Monkey Island (Cat Dua). This small island is nestled in the Ha Long Bay mountains and its only the few members at this resort, and a national park with monkies around! You can do a 40 min hike to the other side and be adventurers, or you can relax at the awesome pool, kayak around the bay, or get a massage. Absolute must-stay for those who like monkeys! Rooms have AC and there's good wifi too! We were there on New Years Eve and there was a big celebration with wine and sparklers.

We arrived in what I believed was an abandoned resort. Debris and trash all over. My wife was here in 2019 and back then it was a 5 star rated brand new resort. Unfortunately the resort has not been maintained. The first clue was the fact it was empty of both guests and staff. The red flags started going up as soon as the boat started leaving. The manager tried to upsell us into the more expensive room.
We discovered later that evening. No properly working bathrooms. No hot water . No water pressure and limited electricity. We stayed in the beach hut and it was full of bugs, ants and small biting variety. We tried the bug net but it was full of mold. The ants were crawling up around us. The hut was literally being eaten with termites.(see photo). The island paths are dangerous and full of trash. We asked for a boat and only stayed one night out of a 2 day reservation. The place is not recommended.

Treat yourself. The resort management will handle all travel arrangements from Hanoi. Swim, kayak, listen to the sea, visit floating fishing village nearby. It’s glorious and a 10 minute ferry ride to Cat Ba. Lee, our English speaking bartender/concierge as well as the professionally trained massage therapist make for an exemplary stay at this rustic resort. For reservations best to call +84 02256299888.

The resort was clean, just a bit
Out dated. I did not see trash laying around but the beach is a bit rocky. Air conditioning is only allowed to run from 10pm-5am. I was Told check out was at noon but was forced out by the cleaning service at 10:45am. Food was decent but charged to drink water with my meal. Would probably not stay here in the future. Monkeys are cute and terrifying at the same time

I don’t even know where to start...the bungalow was very un dirty. The whole place is very run down and so not worth the money we paid. Aggressive monkeys, cockroaches, broken sun beds, dirty beach...don’t go there! The staff is nice though and the views are beautiful.

We booked the 3 day 2 night tour from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay & Cat Ba/ monkey island with one night on the boat with all food and activities included- kayaking, swimming, Ti Top Island and the caves. The boat went through a lot of the islands and docked up by one island for the night. There was squid fishing or if you prefer kareoke then there was that in the evening- our boat was pretty chill so no kareoke! The tour guide was incredible! After this we got taken to Cat Ba where there was a driver already waiting to take us to the harbour for the transfer to the island- the boat journey to the island was no longer than 10 minutes (a lil choppy- however no big boats can go there) The island was pretty decent, we stayed in a wooden bungalow facing the gardens, had all the basics for a short stay. Here we had free food again, kayaking and a trip to the monkey beach- you can kayak over if you fancy! All of this came to £180 each however there were cheaper options with accommodation!

The fees are not much. Maybe 50 thou. It’s a cheap family day out, that is why we went. I can’t really remember which means it wasn’t much. It’s usually my wife that picks the high pice adventure activities and I certainly remember them. Overall it is a day trip on a bike, it is cheap, be organised and work out your motorbike directions the day before. Food etc. is available, cheap and good. I hate monkeys, they have big teeth and steal food. The boat ride around rabbit island is worth it and not expensive ( around 600 thou.) it is still worth it. Overall it is a mini motorcycle road trip 3 hours there, 3 hours back. It is an short introduction to short road trips in Vietnam. If you are a beginner, do it, great for navigation, speed limits and short introductory rides. Enjoy.
