The bungalow was cozy and as described with free wifi, full bathroom, AC, and large bed with bug-netting. The grounds were very pretty and nestled in a quiet valley with hiking trail locations nearby ranging from easy to difficult. Views at the top were incredible

The real star here is the family. They are super friendly and accommodating. They will meet every need and go above and beyond to help you arrange any travel plans or answer any question.

If your'e looking for a quiet place to do some hiking and want to meet the friendliest family on Cat Ba this is it!

I realise many tourists, even locals, lacking information abt it.

If you ask Cat Ba inhabitants abt Whiper Nature bungalow, you receive an amazing sight. My suggestion is not to use the English noun "Whisper Nature" to ask bcz most local people do not know both English and the concept "Bungalow". Therefore, we should use the term "VIET HAI village" instead.

After getting Viet Hai village, you find the bungalow easily bcz it's the only tourism accomodation of the village. The bungalow has one restaurant inside & the restaurant is also the only one in the village. That's why when you book the rooms, you must book full board meals, too.

Another note is its special location: NOT near from the beach. It's a "bungalow" area which consists of a type of single-story houses, which is originated in India. Such houses were traditionally small, only one story and thatched, and had a wide veranda. It's NOT RESORT, which is definitely on the beach. This is also the advantage. Many tourists like its tranquillity, they can listen to the symphony of night wild life among Cat Ba National park: Gecko sound, frog sound, monkey's shout, cricket sounds.

As a return, you can enjoy swimming if you book boating to get Monkeys island beach (CAT DUA beach) 5 kms from VIET HAI bungalow

Newly launched in September 2009, the bungalows named "Whisper Nature" is built and run by APT Travel Ltd, welcoming hundreds of tourists to stop over and accommodate after half year operating. The bungalows' area is situated among Viet Hai village in the east of Cat Ba National Park, covers an area of 10 hectares with mountains and forests surrounding.

To get VIET HAI bungalow: 2 ways
Getting There

Way 1: Boating & Riding
The Lan Ha junks see you off at Viet Hai wharf. You will be welcomed and handed over with bicycles. Riding 3 km. through the jungle to Viet Hai village. Take a short rest at the entrance gate of the bungalows before soft-trekking to Navy peak in 1 hour. Hiking down and have lunch/dinner and free leisure in the bungalows.

Way 2: Long Trekking
3 hour trekking from the Entrance Gate of Cat Ba National Park through Kim Giao forest to Viet Hai village. This hiking path requires a good stamina and well-equiped preparation from travellers (insect repellent, trekking shoes, handkerchief, sunshine cream/ raincoat, candy). The route becomes more interesting in dry season from October to March and really a challenge when it is rainy. You will be accompanied by a local guide who knows everything about the criss-crossing paths among the National Park.

Activities There
Cycling from Viet Hai harbour to Bungalow and vice versa
Hiking to Navy peak
Relaxing among Cat Ba National park
Note: 8 kms. from the beach (3 kms. cycling & 5 kms. boating). You can freely enjoy swimming if following the 3 days/ 2 nights seat-in-coach tours.

We spent two nights here and it's fantastic for those who want to get away from the hubbub and chaos that comes with any town or city. These bungalows are in a remote village that can only be accessed by boat from Cat Ba Town - either that or a 3 hours trek through a jungle. If you like adventure, aren't interested in tours (we went as a couple but are independent travellers, we don't much fancy tours), want to experience bike rides through the jungle and walks in a national park where you won't bump into anyone, this is the place for you. The hotel staff are helpful once you get there, all meals are homecooked and depending on how many guests are staying you may have to eat together, but personally for us this was pleasant, listening to others' travelling tips and experiences over a beer and a meal.
However, the one thing I would definitely recommend is to get in touch with the manager before attempting to get there by yourself, and make all transportation arrangements beforehand.
We got to Cat Ba Town and on attempting to reach Viet Hai village where the bungalows are, we were then told we had to pay 40.00 USD for a boat trip - which is more than the cost of the accommodation itself. We managed to get the manager on the phone and said we had no idea about this and regretted not being informed beforehand, but he said there was nothing he could do as there was only this one boat available (it was 2 pm). So we got on the only boat available, the 40 USD boat, and had a pretty scenic ride to the Viet Hai harbour where bicycles were waiting for us, however, in the next couple of days we made the ride again several times, both on fishing boats and tourist boats, and we never had to pay as much. Boat timetables are not available anywhere so basically you are in the hands of others who know when the boat leaves. The locals all seem to know when the boat leaves, and I am sorry to say this but I never saw money change hands on the boat that ferries locals to the floating village and Viet Hai. Tourists however must pay. It's a grey area and all you can do is take it in stride. Expect each boat ride to be a different price, no matter whether you are with others or alone. We took four different boats, all arranged by the bungalows through contacts. The cheapest we paid was a handful of USD, but I can't forget the 40 USD we were charged on the way.
Overall, great place if you like adventure and remote settings, no wifi to speak of, so come with books or you can spend your evenings talking to the locals or other guests. I would definitely recommend this, but do have all the information you need before you go or it might risk ruining the experience.

We stayed here for 5 nights and thought the location was amazing, great scenery and lots of jungle trekking to be done.
The accomodation is nice and clean but a little expensive. However, it was more the food situation that bothered us. Depending on the number of guests, you might have to share your food and you don't have a great deal of choice in what you eat. All this would be fine if it weren't $6 each for a meal, around double what I'd expect to pay. We did manage to get some of our meals in the village, which was much cheaper, but they were only making egg noodle soup.
Another thing that bothered me was having 50,000 Dong added to my bill for a second hand tourist map which I thought was free, and should've been.
It's worth a visit though. 5 nights is too long because of the cost and the people that stayed only one night didnt seem to have enough time to do anything. 2 or 3 nights is enough.

Getting there:
A local boat(small wooden one) leaves Ben Beo harbour between 11 and half past every weekday morning.
The return is 7am weekdays and 1pm on Sundays.
The cost is 50,000 Dong per person one way. Pay the captain when exiting the boat.
People at the harbour will try to sell you boat tickets at double price and national park tickets at 30,000 Dong, you don't need either.

Whisper of Nature is a true gem on Cat Ba and for us made the trip to Halong Bay worthwhile. If you want to get away from the usual tourist B.S. and dubious proprietors of Cat Ba Town, this is the place to go. The setting is amazing and secluded, the family that runs the Bungalows are incredibly friendly and put great care into their work, food, etc. This is hard to come by in VIetnam and a welcome escape.

The food is delicious and includes several courses for lunch and dinner at $3 a person. It feels more like a homestay as the family sits and eats dinner on the floor next to the guests, and your night is likely to involve some karaoke with the locals or perhaps the spectacle of a Cobra caught in the jungle and grilled up by the neighbors.

Great experience, our best in Vietnam!

P.S. There is a local ferry to the village from ben beo harbor in cat ba town that should cost 20,000 dong pp, however the ferry operator is shady and tried to extort 100,000 from each of us, threatening to take us back if we didn't pay (typical Vietnam scam)...we stood our ground and paid the correct fare but had to grab our bags and hustle off the boat...probably best to just hire your own small boat for 250K total rather than have an unpleasant experience. Once you get to Viet Hai the nastiness stops though.

We stayed here for a couple of days with our children and were amazed by the beauty of this hidden village. Both the boat ride and the path to the village were spectacular. The bungalowpark is located in paradise and kayaking to small private beaches in the neigbouring waters in a stunning environment was a great experience. The couple who was in charge of the restaurant in the bungalow park was lovely and kind and doing their best. The bungalows itself are simple and the whole place is quite spartan but this was not the reason we do have mixed feelings about our stay. The reason we felt not at ease is that the management of this place treated us more like tolerated walking wallets than guests. We value kindness, hospitality and human contact when we travel and bring our children. We have experienced so much of that in Vietnam so far. We feel that it is a pity that the management seemed to have lost these important properties.

We booked and arrived on Cat Ba island, but dispite sending them many e-mails we had no reply as to how to get there. Most people in Vat Ba town had never heard of it and the only ones who had wanted $35 dollars to take you to the park entrance, plus the entry fee and then over a 10km walk through forest to get there. Another option was a boat for 300,000d each plus a 9km walk through the forest. All recommended a guide. The tour company they recommend in their description was not represented on the island and when we finally found an impartial view from a local they laughed and said we weren't the first to be amazed at the cost to get there. Be warned! There are far better and more easily accessed places to stay on the island than here!

Ourvisit wasfor 2 days which was a lovely break from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi. If we were to do it again we wouldn't change anything. We booked the trip from Australia through APT and were very satisfied with the Dragon Boat Cruise especially the wonderful memorable but short swim we had at Monkey Island with the boat moored a 150 metres from the beach. The meals onboard were good and all the transfers from boat to shore and then to the bugalow worked like clockwork. The bungalow had a double bed and hot water shower and toilet combined wet area which is quite normal for SE Asia. Our package included breakfast lunch and dinner for the two days. The food was tasty and plentiful but not gourmet. Pancakes for breakfast were a bit two rubbery however very satisfying with fresh fruit to follow. Instant coffee, no complaints, this is a National Park after all. One can organise trekking into the jungle if one wishes. 2 nights are enough.

From arriving at Viet Hai harbour in the PM ( which we'd recommend as it avoids small to medium sized crowds), our bags were left and transported to the bungalows safely and easily by the owner. We got a free bike and biked to Viet Hai which was one of the most beautiful 30 minutes of my life! It's like a lost world! Riding through the village gave you a feel of the countryside way of life (as much as you can get with some small scale tourism). The bungalow was great and the bed was cool. A really cool way to stay near nature but with some home comforts. The local stream had a fish foot bath which was a nice touch and the owner greeted us and cooked a lovely healthy locally grown and picked that day dinner. Family run with a few funny kids knocking about made it even more charming. The breakfast was delicious and the bloke couldnt have been more helpful in showing us where to go for a walk in the "jungle". We trekked up a rocky path to a peak for an hour which was a cool experience but take lots of water and good trainers! The owner then arranged a sea taxi and bus to get back to Hanoi at one decent price. Lovely bloke and couldn't recommend enough as an experience to get away from the larger crowds and see something really different.
