I stayed here for one night with my friends, price of room is not cheaper than other 5 star resort. However, service was unbelievable, from reception to restaurant I would say for 3 star only. The way they talk and show us very unprofessional and rude.
The room is small and look too old, breakfast is so poor its far too low with what i paid for.
I am sorry to say that but its really low service standard.
The beach only can see in the morning due to sea water coming down, after 2pm is only sea water without sands.

It is a lovely property, great beach access and the pool has a waterslide which is a big bonus!

The rooms are alright. They definitely need an update because the doors were malfunctioning a bit.

However, the staff barely speak English, and are not very helpful. We tried to get them to book us on a ferry out of Catba and it did not go well. You're better off booking with a local tourist agency! They also seemed shocked when I asked for a bill for things consumed from the mini bar.

Having a look at CatBa town and the hotels there, and reading the reviews here - including some with low marks because the reviewer just wanted to use the pools - is pretty funny.

Yes - if you aren’t staying here and try to use the pools (don’t exist many other places in CatBa), they will charge you. You are made to wear a wristband probably because of the amenities of the resort. The beach is pretty and the pools very nice. Yes, on check-in they take your passport - relax, it’s not going anywhere.

The grounds are beautiful, great views from the restaurant. Rooms are somewhat dated, but not bad. You are in Vietnam, after all. Prices on things probably cater to the more affluent Chinese and Japanese groups that come here.

You can definitely rough it more in CatBa town and it will be far cheaper. Or you can choose this hotel and it will be very different - but maybe not up to Western standards of “resort and spa”.

I included pictures of the beach and view from restaurant. Not going to get that in CatBa town...

The place felt abandoned, low key creepy.
The staff were wildly unhelpful, to the point it was funny, had to wait for ages to check in because the chickadee was watching something on her phone, we went to dinner and the staff once again just sat at a table inside and played on their phones, we were the only guests at the restaurant and had to walk inside to get their attention whenever we wanted something or was ready to order.
The pool is awesome, had the entire thing to ourselves, buuuuut the vibe was ruined because the security guard just layed on the day bed STARING at us the ENTIRE time.
Rooms are outdated and on the small side
Bed was GIANT, but was also made out of bricks

View from balcony was the best part.

The four stars might refer to the two pools and the two slides (which they call 'waterpark') on one of them. They might also refer to the size of the room and washroom or to the rich breakfast buffet. Other than that, the quality is not the greatest. People are allowed to swim in the pools with their regular clothes on, even jeans shorts and hat to say the least. It's not much controlled and we saw a guy changing his pants getting naked just in front of everyone, also children. The staff doesn't speak much English and in general the place is more for Vietnamese and Chinese tourists. Do not expect to enjoy a quiet vacation, as screaming people will be all around you. Although the pools close at 10pm. loud people will stay there much later than that. And that means right in front of your room, since all the rooms face the same direction. No use calling the reception, they won't do anything to help stopping the noise or they won't answer the phone at all. Although spacious, the rooms are not comfortable. The linens pretty cheap. There is only a thick blanket to cover yourself, which proves quite useless unless you sleep with freezing AC on. The slippers don't match. The shower and the toilet leak. The so-called private beach is a small patch you can see in the morning with low tide and enjoy after people have collected all the garbage. All in all, your child might have some fun in the pool but this would be the only good point.

I visited Catba island with more than 120 coworker. It is difficult waiting time to go to the island. There is too much tourist go there, and it took a lot of time. However, I had lot of beautiful momment and memorable party w my collegues.

I had booked four nights for a great Christmas experience with my wife - we were met by a very friendly manager who told us we had been upgraded and he would show us our room - this is a four star hotel and must have been great in its hay day -it was off season and this was very evident in the way we were treated - all the chairs were packed away,at the sea front, equipment in the spa was not working - the place overall was a bit run down and not what is expected from a four star hotel - we checked out and found a hotel round the corner with the standard of facilities and service expected from a four star hotel - I feel that the CatBa resort and spa has passed it's sell by date

We booked this accomodation as part of a two day package through an agent at the airport, one night on a boat in the bay (which was the highlight of our two week trip through Vietnam) and one night on cat ba island. On the brochure this "4 star" resort looks great, tennis court, private beach, short walk to town and even its very own water park, fantastic for people travelling with children especially. Although more expensive than other accomodation we could have gone with in our package ($35US more than the 3 star accomodation) it certainly looked to offer a lot more......

Firstly the tennis court was a ridiculous $20/hr, the beach was not really private and the water looked very.......well yuk! The short walk to town has a huge hill on it not for the faint hearted and the water park was closed for a week for maintenence.

When we made the reservation over the phone we specifically asked the man at the resort about the water slides, (we have a 2.5 yr old son who loves water slides) this was the main reason we decided to pay extra for the accom. but thinking about it later we didn't actually ask if they would be working while we would be there. Our fault for not being specific enough maybe.

Also there were piles of debris everywhere around the resort due to maintenance and staff zipping past you in golf buggies (that are only for staff to use) while you walk a couple of hundred metres to your room. Now we had stayed in quite a few 4-5 star resorts during our holiday in south east asia and at ALL the rest of them the golf buggies were for transporting guests with luggage to their rooms I mean isn't that the sort of thing you pay more for. Anyway when I complained to the manager about the waterpark being closed and the staff not advising us of that on the phone, i had hoped he would have a happy alternative for us to do at no cost or at least compensate us in some way for the inconvenience. I was told he could not do anything for us and would have to speak to the general manager and he would be able to organise compensation of some kind. He then assured me that he would contact me soon with reparations. This contact never happened.

All meals were provided for all in our group as part of the package inc. any children under 4. We found out at dinner time that this was not the "resorts" policy though, when we asked about a meal for our child we were handed the a la carte menu and told "no no, child no free". We then found out that the manager and general manager had left and gone home 2 hours before. Obviously a childs meal was either considered too much compensation for us, or the managers just didnt give a damn at all that we were inconvenienced. Have to say though the fish and chips we bought for our son was lovely, a lot better than the set menu food. Fish and Chips stood no chance of redeeming our experience though. I rated the resort 1 overall even though I'm positive there are far worse hotels out there, but 2 overall is almost half way to excellent and I can't have that.

DO NOT WASTE A SINGLE VIETNAM DONG ON THIS PLACE!

The resort itself is okay, it needs a bit of an update since the rooms look a bit old, however it is very clean.
Our view was beautiful, but be mindful that there are rooms with palm trees in front of the balconies.
Breakfast was not that great.
The staff was rude and seemes to be annoyed when asked for anything at all. We had our key not working and it every time that happened it was as if we were bothering them to open up our room.
The worst part was the manager, who was the rudest and has no clue how to talk to people. When we went climbing we lost the wristbands they make you wear, he started shouting and saying he had warned us, yes, ‘WARNED us’ we had to pay if we lost them. He never said that, plus, I was okay with paying, however, it is not okay to shout at customers when they ask for something politely.
He also kept out passports and became upset when I asked if we could get them back as soon as he finished what he needed to do with them.
I believe he’s got a bit of a temper issue, maybe he should take anger management classes.

Swimming pool was very nice and even if the beach was not great, it was one of two places on the island with a beach. Very nice view. The rooms were very poor, awful bathroom. Food accustomed for Chinese guests, not very good. Poor service.
