My daughter and I have just had a lovely week in a log cabin with her two girls (my granddaughters 5&4). Like us they loved it! The cabin was spotless and well equipped and cosy. I was expecting it to be chilly inside but they are well insulated but plenty of blankets just in case. The girls slept in the twin beds up in the loft - I wouldn’t recommend adults sleep up there to be honest as the roof height isn’t high enough but they thought it was great. The ladder up is a bit steep though so only suitable for this age and above. The space at the top of the ladder could do with a barrier as we were worried about sleepwalking children but a suitcase in front did the trick (just in case).
The table on the covered verandah is nice for eating outside and is easy to bring inside for chillier mornings/evenings. We cooked on a couple of occasions, collected drinks form the bar and takeaway fish and chips from Waldos and the Dolphin - the latter straight across the road, the former a five min walk. The food in the Bacchus is good and I’ve heard the carvery is really good and very popular!
The Bacchus is perfectly suited for the beach (free parking for guests) making a trip with two little ones so easy. They also loved the paddling pool which is clean and sheltered from the on shore wind which blew up one day.
Sutton is a quiet and family oriented place and is perfect for a relaxing week. Don’t go there if you want arcades, rides and hustle and bustle - Mablethorpe is a short drive/bus journey if that’s what you are after. Also highly recommend the Beach Bar on the front for food, drinks, ambience and lovely lovely staff.
We’ve loved it and would return at the drop of a hat!

If you would like outstanding food and customer service at extremely affordable prices in a stunning location by the sea, this is the place to come!
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious Sunday Roast here after a walk along the promenade by the sea which is just 2 minutes away, with its beautiful award winning clean sandy 'Blue Flag' beach and pretty pastel coloured beach huts.
We hadn't booked, but although busy (probably due to the hotel's excellent reputation for good food!) the friendly staff kindly accommodated us.
Both the food and the friendly, professional and individualised customer service we were afforded was outstanding. It is indeed rare to find such a place which retains the wonderful values and service of an era gone by and where people matter. As a health care worker, I was additionally impressed with the Covid-19 measures that were put in place and being monitored, and that the staff were all wearing disposable gloves and masks. The hotel and facilities were immaculately clean.
We had the choice to sit outside in the October sun, or inside in the splendid restaurant or bar lounge. There are several different lounge areas, one of which is dog friendly. We asked about the hotel rooms, which have all been refurbished to a high standard, and too about the log cabins one can stay in, which are sited in the well kept hotel gardens to the rear.
The Bacchus is a beautiful hotel situated right by the sea in a quaint seaside village that retains traditional values. It is a wonderful find and a rare 'gem'. We shall definately return, only next time we shall book as we would not wish to risk losing out!!!
Thank you Bacchus Hotel and to all your wonderful hard working and lovely staff.

Just come back after a short stay with my friend and her two little dogs. We had a lovely stay. Every single member of staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful, and so polite. Honestly couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent, especially the fantastic breakfast and the service was quick. The room was spotless and although we were facing the beer garden, the music wasn't loud and was turned off by around 9.30. They clearly have a brilliant team. Thanks so much to everyone. We will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago for just one night. The decor on ground level looked charming and modern, the staff were helpful and friendly. However, the room we were allocated, room 10, was outdated, a jumble of old pine, worn out furniture, old carpet, and off the bedroom, down a couple of stairs was the bathroom, it reminded me of a tired 1980s bathroom, carpet on the floor, old sink unit and bath, very cold, no heating at all during our stay, and no option to switch it on, very depressing. The bed had no support, so when you sat on it you sank down a foot or two.
The evening meal, unfortunately was not enjoyable either. I had a chilli, which tasted like it had come out of a packet. Then there was the breakfast, oh dear! Only one choice of juice, which was orange, and a few choices of packet cereals, the full English breakfast consisted of fried everything, with no other option, with tinned tomatoes not fresh. We were given a choice of white or brown toast, ordered brown, which turned out to be the cheapest and thinnest bread ever. Such a shame, as first impressions of the hotel looked promising. Not sure the four stars were attained at all at this hotel, not room 10 anyway, nor breakfast. May be our standards expected more after staying at B&Bs, cheaper, more comfortable and with more choices at breakfast, with high quality ingredients. Sorry, will not be back.

Poor effort for afternoon tea. The sandwiches were triangular and not finger, the small cold sausage roll was awful and definitely from a multi pack. The cakes were bought and looked like a multi variety pack from Iceland, they were of poor and boring quality. One of the cakes had a long blonde hair running through it. I did tell the bar man and he said, well we don’t make them they are bought in and I’ll let the manufacturer know! We were seated at a table which had prawns and peas underneath on the floor. All in all the worst afternoon tea I’ve experienced. I won’t be going back for this again.

Response from D S, General Manager at The Bacchus Hotel
Responded 25 Nov 2024
Michelle, I do apologies about the shape of the sandwiches, I didn't realise there was an afternoon tea etiquette when it came to finger or triangular sandwiches. We have many, many wonderful comments about our afternoon tea and I think you could actually be the first not to enjoy it. Should anyone wish to book our delightful afternoon tea, please give us a call. Served between 2:30 - 5 daily, we just ask for 24 hours notice.

Breakfast was chaotic , You are told to go into bar room which is dog friendly option. No tables set no staff to serve you. When you ask for service it is extra slow .Tea is tasteless, toast is cold ,Full English is the best option ,as anything else in minuscule more like a small child’s portion .The cleaning of the this room whilst your having your breakfast is most annoying . Hovering ,window cleaning etc, especially as the tables are left uncleaned and sticky poor standard as the £50 plus per person Band B rate
this is not good value ,our towels were not changed and bins not emptied in room . Lack of Organization throughout the hotel.we will not be rushing back

Came here for Sunday lunch during our holiday . Problem with booking but was rectified professionally by a very friendly member of staff . The food itself was excellent well cooked I had beef which was so tender and my husband had the gammon again well cooked
The desserts were not all that great cheap and tasteless why no homemade dessert like an apple pie or crumble as part of the selection ?
All staff polite and attentive the restaurant itself was like stepping back in time . Would definitely return and recommend to others

Stayed at the Bacchus hotel for August bank holiday weekend, me the wife and the dog.. Plenty of parking spaces so no problem parking the car up.. I must say it was fantastic, made us and the dog feel very welcome and nothing was a problem.. We had a nice big family room with a double and single bed in it, which may I just add were proper comfy… Lots of tea/coffee for us in the room which we could replenish whenever we wanted as there was more supplies on the landing.. Having the dog with us was not a problem once and as a bonus there was a small pay and display car park too the rear of the hotel with lots of grass areas around it so we could take the dog to do her business.. Ate in the hotel every night and the food and service we received was 1st class…. Breakfast was bang on too, they even gave our Izzy a sausage of her own… And too boot the Guinness was fantastic, and the drinks weren’t overpriced.. Already decided on going back there next time we visit the east coast for a few days.. Huge thanks to all the staff for making it a great few days away…

I visited this establishment today (15/10/2022) with my partner and her sister for a bite to eat as our usual stop off was fully booked. I ordered fish & chips, which even the most incompetent of chefs would fail to ruin. However, the soggy undercooked batter and dregs from the frozen chip bag managed to achieve this. The other meals ordered were meant to be grilled butterflied chicken breast with bacon, cheese and a BBQ
sauce. What was served was a microwaved minature anaemic piece of meat swimming in oily sauce freshley prepared from a jar. Whilst I didnt expect a Michelin starred standard of cuisine this did dissapoint. After making our feelings known to the staff regarding the poor standard of food, I was informed that as the food served incorperated all items listed on the menu, there wasn't anything they could do regarding our dissatisfaction. Never mind that the food described on the menu didn't resemble what turned up on our plates. The manager who appeared to be reluctant to address our concerns, sent out a young man to relay the final decision that there was no issue with the food served. I hasten to add that we will not be recommending this estblishment to anyone wishing for an enjoyable meal. There are plenty other eateries that serve high quality food at a similar price.

I visited this hotel, together with my wife on Monday 24th August during the lunch service as we are planning to relocate to Sutton on Sea in the near future. Having read some of the recent scathing reviews regarding staff and service I felt it necessary to comment on our experience which was obviously during a very busy service on a beautiful sunny day. I have had years of experience within the catering industry and therefore understand the challenges. I was impressed with the way the Management and staff have adapted the premises in order to do their best to comply with the restrictions placed on them with regard to social distancing, personal hygiene of staff and customers alike, and also the manner in which they were directing customers thereby helping them to comply. I concur with the Manager's/Owner's direct response to some of the criticisms made by other reviewers. Our experience of the staff was overwhelmingly positive and my observations of them was that they were polite, professional and extremely hard working, in fact they were exceptional in such difficult and busy circumstances.
I fully respect the rights of the individual, based on their own perceptions of their experience to comment freely on that experience however in order to bring balance to bear I can honestly state that I was extremely impressed with the staff during our visit however much less impressed with the behaviour of some of the customers, ranging from failing to adhere to the hygiene measures to actually spitting on the ground in the garden. How the staff keep calm with some of them is even more credit worthy. To summarise: Very well done to the management and staff during busy service's and when we do move to Sutton on Sea I have already decided to make your bar my local. To some of the customers I would say, moderate your behaviour and be understanding when things don't go exactly to plan during very busy periods, we can all mistakes.
See you soon Bacchus.
Paul Kirwan.
