This is a special place. Not necessarily for everyone. If you cannot be without your hair dryer or cell phone, stop reading and move on. Kia Ora Sauvage is a true Robinson Crusoe vacation, but high end. The beauty of the place is amazing, and the hosts Michel and his wife Tetua, native polynesians who work for Kia Ora, but...

We visited Rangiroa 24 years ago, and always wanted to return for the sole purpose of staying at Le Sauvage. We finally made the trip, and we were not disappointed. Our host and hostess Michel and his wife Tetuanui met us at the Kia Ora. After a 45 minute ride across the atoll, we arrived at the island. Yes; it...

Staying at Le Sauvage is an extremely unique experience. As many have echoed, it is not for everyone. I, however, loved it. We stayed 3 nights here after staying at the Hotel Kia Ora Resort. The journey starts with your transfer from the Kia Ora Resort at 9 AM (transfer from the dock). Only pack what you need for your...

This is our third time at the Sauvage....our first time was 15 years ago, so we've seen the place over time. We still just love it. Mostly it hasn't changed, but in some subtle ways it has, which I will discuss in a bit. But first: If you are a person who is coming to French Polynesia to just chill,...

We experienced our best vacation ever, thanks to the hospitality of Michael and Tetuanui at the Kia Ora Sauvage (Le Sauvage) on Rangiroa. By way of background, my wife and I celebrated our honeymoon on Rangiroa, on a motu about 15 miles from the Le Sauvage. Before proceeding to the motu, we spent a week with a Polynesian family near...

We were the only 2 guests at Kia Ora Sauvage and that experience was very special. Our host, Michel, was very helpful and took good care of us. The food was very good and fresh. He is a super fan of the Brazilian National Team and we had some amazing conversations on the subject. I did try to send him...

You absolutely must do this. To see the milky way of our galaxy and the stars, to experience true peace and beauty there is no comparison. There's nothing like this experience anywhere that I've ever seen. You are on a tiny island that you can walk all the way around in 10 minutes. Your host is fun and warm and...

This is a great place if you love nature and don't need the luxuries. We spent two nights here and want to go back for at least a week. We were there celebrating our 35th aniversary. Michael has been the caretaker for 21 years. His wife does the cooking and housecleaning and there is a gardener. That is the staff....

This was our second time to the Kia Ora Sauvage. We stayed 6 nights in mid-January, 2014. Michael and his wife,Tetuanui, were our hosts once again. Once again, it was a wonderful stay. The outside world disappears. You forget about the problems you have as you look into an endless horizon of aqua blues and greens. We had the KOS...

We booked our travel to French Polynesia with Tahiti Nui Travel back in August. We wanted to go someplace out of the way and secluded, and they recommended Kia Ora and Kia Ora Sauvage on Rangiroa. A very good choice! We traveled to Rangiroa in November 2013. Apart from the long plane ride, it was by far the most unique...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A one hour cruise from the Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa down to the south coast of Rangiroa, takes you to the Avea Rahi motu (islet) where Le Sauvage Private Island greets you in a miniature version of paradise. As soon as you land, the legend of Robinson Crusoe becomes true in a setting of 5 traditional bungalows nestled amid the coconut and palm trees. These bungalows have been built in the purest Polynesian tradition while offering high standard amenities. Precious local materials such as ironwood, woven palms, bamboo, coconut, and local handicraft objects have been tastefully integrated in the design of these bungalows. You will be marveled at the sight of the bathroom with its shellfish curtain, coral tiles, stone washbasin all surrounded by live tropical plants.
