Wonderful stay! We stayed in Tinto (the smallest unit) and I was perfect for two of us. Filippo and his family were so welcoming and gracious and extremely helpful with anything we needed. Their little dog Lampino was also the most wonderful host. We absolutely loved it here and would recommend it to anyone needing a home base in the Tuscany/Umbria area.

This was our second stay at La Carreccia and it didn't let us down. Since we can get a rental car with our apartment, our daily excursions all over the Tuscan region was again memorable. Cortona, Siena, San Geminiano, Montepulciano, Bagno di Civitella and the list goes on, are all within easy access for day trips. The Martinelli family made our stay so comfortable. We took advantage of flying into Florence and Fillipo picked us up. We used him service again on departing.
Can't recommend this place enough. I've sent friend and they have all come back very satisfied.
You won't go wrong with a stay at La Carreccia.

This villa is heaven in Tuscany. The family that owns it is sweet and extremely helpful. There is nothing you might need that they can't arrange. The house I stayed in was gorgeous and so Tuscana that I truly felt I was in Italy. It had everything and was a piece of paradise with the most beautiful gardens and a huge pool overlooking olive orchards. The owner dropped us at the train stop whenever we wanted to travel to the nearby towns (Assisi, Cortona etc) and you can even rent a car from them. They speak English and are super nice. The price was less than we expected and was a true bargain. I highly recommend it!!

This is our second time staying at Filippo’s La Carreccia. Located a few km south of Castiglion Fiorentino (between Arezzo and Cortona) in eastern Tuscany this is an ideal place to use as a base to see much of Tuscany. The rooms are spacious and clean and there are ample facilities to cook for yourself (and two nearby grocery stores). Filippo is charming and always happy to help (and his English is top notch!). And there is a pool! We highly recommend staying here.

Where do I begin? This was our 2nd visit to La Carreccia. We are 2 couples (retirees) who rented both apartments for 3 1/2 weeks. The Martinez family are hospitable and so welcoming. We chose to rent a vehicle from them and took many day trips in Tuscany/Umbria. So many villages and towns to explore and visit. Add wineries, castles and boat tours. We took the train to Florence for the day. Easy, less hassle. Filippo can recommend places depending on your interests. You can also look things up in their travel room. Maps and pamphlets are all there for you to use. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful. Outings during the day usually having lunch out returning home for a happy hour and light dinner on our private terrace. The area is great for walking or just bike riding. You can make use of the beautiful pool and lounge chairs. We also got to meet two lovely ladies who come year after year (15 ) if not more...just another indication of the hospitality of our host family!!

It's off the beaten track but a quick taxi or bus to Cortona or Castiglion Fiorentino, two amazing hilltop towns. The apartments are spread throughout four renovated stone buildings with all the necessities. The best part is the hospitality of Fillipo and his family. We felt like we were visiting relatives (in a good way). Fillipo is also the local taxi driver and has vehicles to rent. When not hiking the back hills with castles and vinyards you can enjoy the pool and grounds (surrounded by olive groves) which are meticulously maintained and it's a "work in progress". Italio and Filippo never stop creating more interesting spaces...stone by stone.
It's not a luxury resort. It's natural and rustic and living in the countryside. Looking forward to our return.

We recently stayed at La Carreccia and we can't say enough about the beautiful, relaxing week we had there. As always, Filippo and his wonderful family were so welcoming to us, that the villa truly does feel like going home. The weather was perfect, the surroundings are true Tuscany and just being there for our third visit was amazing! Our little villa, Il Tino, is absolutely perfect for two, with a kitchen that allowed us to relax and make breakfast and enjoy it on our patio in the warm Tuscan sunshine before heading out for a full day of playing tourist! Of course, there are different accommodations catering to a larger number of guests. Filippo will pick up his guests at the Castiglion Fiorentino train station upon arrival, and will even take care of all car rental details as he has his own car rental company right on the premises. La Carreccia is central to everything. Bus to Cortona and Arezzo; train to Orvieto; drive to Montepulciano, Siena, Pienza - all rolling fields in beautiful wine country. Restaurants are close by, a grocery store is about a 10 minute walk from the villa, the perfect place to stock up on excellent Tuscan wine, pasta, desserts, everything that Italy is known for. We can't wait to go back!!

We absolutely loved this piece of heaven from the moment we drove in the gate, until the moment we regretfully left for the airport. We were there 9 nights in the Lo Zino suite, which was wonderfully equipped with everything we needed. Having rented a car, we used this as a home base from which to explore Assisi, Castiglion Fiorentino, Castel Montecchio, Camucia, Cortona, Siena, Florence and other places near and far. The market in Camucia (Thursday morning) is really fun to experience, and Filippo took us to a local family winery where we got some really excellent wine. The bicycles were a welcome plus, and there are lots of local roads to explore which had little traffic.
Filippo and his family were so friendly, welcoming and unfailingly helpful. One morning, Lucia gifted us with a big basket of fresh picked tomatoes and basil!
I can't recommend this wonderful place highly enough. The grounds are beyond lovely, with all sorts of fruits, herbs and vegetables growing in abundance. Fresh figs for breakfast one day!
My husband's only negative comment was that he would have liked a fan in the bedroom.
Room advice: Lo Zino was perfect for us, and our friends were in il Tino which was smaller and very lovely. The Il Coltro units have stairs up to the bedrooms and en-suite, and are probably quieter (the neighbor has a dog, suffice to say).
I would come back here in a heartbeat.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at this delightful villa and if opportunity allows, we will be returning! Filippo picked us up from the train station in Castiglion Fiorentino. On the short ride to the Villa and, during our stay, Filippo shared information about the surrounding area and helped us get our bearings.
The apartment we called "home" during our stay overlooked the fields and Castiglion Fiorentino beyond. We were in one of two apartments that are separate from the owners' home. There is also a swimming pool (unheated but very refreshing after a day sight-seeing) and the grounds are beautifully and lovingly cared for. We were surrounded by lemon, apple, fig, and olive trees, to name a few. In the morning, we were woken, not by the sounds of traffic, but by roosters crowing.
The apartment itself is fully equipped, comfortable and very well-maintained. WI-fi is available although at times, it was more readily accessible by the open window on the main floor than on the second level where the bedroom was.
While the apartment is fully equipped for cooking meals, we decided to go out three times, to a local trattoria a short walk away. Filippo had previously explained that it was not safe to walk the main road into town at night time (although we walked it during the day - 20 minutes - with little worry about safety). Instead, he pointed us to Locanda Di Gege, a local trattoria/pizzeria. We could not have been happier. Staff were obliging and friendly as they attempted to explain the menu to English-speaking tourists. One word of caution, though...in order to get to the trattoria, we walked up an unlit path a distance and then down a lighted paved road. The trip to dinner was slightly easier than the trip back, when the climb up the paved road was more arduous and one requires a flashlight to travel safely down the pathway.
La Carreccia makes an excellent base for travels to other towns/cities, even if one is not driving. The local bus into Castiglion Fiorentino or to Cortona is a short walk to the main road. From town, trains will take you to Florence, Rome Perugia, Orvieto, etc. However, regardless of where you might want to wander during your stay, be sure to spend some time in the old part of Castiglion Fiorentino. While the walk to the top of the town is steep, the views from the piazza are spectacular. Another must, is a visit to Agricola Buccelletti winery. Filippo provided the drive to and from the family-run estate where we enjoyed a tour of the vineyards and wine tasting.
The entire time at La Carreccia was delightful in so many ways and Filippo and his family are the perfect hosts.
