We stayed here one night as part of a touring holiday. Put it this way - we didn't take photographs of any of the modern hotels we stayed at. The chateau is over 600 years old and crumbling a bit but still beautiful. It's in a lovely setting, It has its own chapel, which is open to visitors. It has... More

We arrived to the warm welcome of Madame who was a sweet host ; her family have owned the chateau for centuries and her husband has totally restored the gardens which are well worth a visit in their own right. Herons fish the lake, owls swoop at night and there some quite vociferous reptile frogs in the pond - all... More

We loved our stay here. Husband is a bird watcher and had a grand time on the grounds and in the woods, admiring nature. The chateau, though a bit faded from days gone by, is truly special. Our room had a gorgeous view of the pond and garden and was comfy and roomy. Be prepared for stairs...but they are so... More

Narrow spiral staircase, rooms decorated in 19th century style, and very nice hosts. we stayed in a family quarter with two rooms, one overlooking pond and forest. it was fantastic! and nice friendly Duke served us croissants and coffee in the morning. nice old chapel near house is... The hostess at the Chateau de Montriou was absolutely delightful. The Chateau has been in her husband's family for 300 years The gardens are well renowned and often have coach visitors. The Chateau itself is steeped in history and furnished with old world charm. We did not realise when booking that our room would be at the top of a... More

A Fantastic stay in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Our hosts were welcoming, humourous and kind. The chateau is marvellous. The grounds and gardens are good for the soul. The gardens were just inspiring! We recommend highly. A lovely memory from our honeymoon. Oh, and a great little creperie nearby on the river at Grez nearby.

We decided to arrange an overnight stay at this venerable chateau as a surprise for visiting relatives who usually stay at big-name hotels and have never experienced or seen the true rural nature of the Loire-Angers region. It is located off the beaten track, off a rural road, and a small sign will point to the turnoff, but it is... More

We are 2 sisters traveled this september exploring les châteaux de Loir, and we spent 2 nights in a real chateau de Montriou. And we liked it very much, the rooms combine original interiors and modern comfort, we liked the garden and explored premises, the owners are very cordial, nice and open people. The breakfast is nice with fresh products... More

A typical French family chateau - a little shabby around the edges and crumbling gently in the corners. But the welcome was warm and friendly, the room was well appointed (albeit up a 15th century spiral staircase!) and the gardens well spectacular. A real gem!

I recommend the Chateau de Montriou highly. It is exactly as stated - a very beautiful, very historic, and very personal home that has graciously been opened to visitors in rooms with a lot of history that have been modified for visitors. If you seek a genuine experience away from the bustle and pollution of the major cities, this is... More
