My Sister has stayed here a couple of times before, so it seemed a good choice when our extended family was looking for a relaxing private place to stay that could accommodate 10 of us, for a pre Christmas get together and we couldn’t have chosen better.
We stayed in the sleeps 11 Mayo Landing cabin on its own island setting making it feel private, and a little bit exclusive.
There are only 8 guest cabins and though you can see other cabins mostly in the distance, they are all well placed and spaced out.
The family run site has been established and continues to be run with the environment and nature in mind, and that low impact approach really shows.
As to our cabin it accommodated us all internally in comfort and was well considered throughout, with amble space for us to eat, play games and relax. Externally we enjoyed all the faculties, heated pool though a little chilly for December, the hot tub, rowing boat, log fired sauna and fire pit.
Overall the owners have in our opinion thought of everything including the often overlooked little things to make their guests stay special. And in a word that’s what they achieved here something special.

We booked Island Lodge a year ago because we had become fed up with the noise of New Year at home with loud fireworks etc. and were determined to have a peaceful New Year for 2024! We love nature and the outdoors and the location sounded perfect. I’m delighted to say it lived up to expectations in every way. The lodge was beautiful, cosy and had an amazing view down the lake. We went out rowing each day and spent lots of time watching the wildlife. Highlights included multiple sightings of an otter, watching the male Goosander hunting under water just off our boat dock, the blue flash of the kingfisher and tremendous starling murmurations each evening. James checked in with us to make sure everything was ok at the start of our holiday and again the evening before we left. We had no complaints at all (I couldn’t even moan about not catching any fish - I drowned a few maggots and spent some time lure fishing and loved every moment because the location is so special - catching a fish would just have been the icing on the cake and I appreciate this is not primarily a fishing venue). In summary, having had the peaceful New Year we craved, we would book to come back without hesitation.

We have just got back from a truly lovely stay at Log House Holidays in the Moondara Lodge. There were eight of us, six adults one teenager and a child, plus four dogs. We found the site quite easily as there are good instructions on the website plus our sat navy worked well. The last bit of the journey is a narrow lane so go carefully as it is two way. We easily found Moondara as it is well sign posted. We loved the fact the the various lodges were spaced apart by some distance and we didn’t hear any noise or worried that we might disturb anyone. The accommodation is on two floors. Downstairs is the kitchen dining room area and living room in an “L” shape so that you never felt too far from anyone which made everything more social. There is also a downstairs bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge freezer, dishwasher and with many pots, pans, plates and cutlery. Upstairs there are three further bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which I’d en-suite. Be aware the bedroom with the en-suite is on a gallery which looks over the dining area so you can hear conversations, music etc if you go to bed early. Everyone said the beds were comfortable and linen was very clean. The bathrooms were large and clean and had baths with separate showers. Outside is where you want to be, especially if the weather is kind. Fortunately for us the weather was good. We had booked paddle boards, and the hot tub and these were ready for us when we arrived l can assure you we used the boards a lot as well as the hot tub. Everyone loved paddling about and there were a lot of laughs due to the wobbles and occasional falling in. There are plenty of life jackets provided so everyone was safe in case someone took a tumble. Then we could all soak in the hot tub, we had about a maximum of six in there at any one time, even if it was raining which it did once. The hot tub is only about ten feet from the back door so you don’t have to walk far. We used a bowl of water to clean our feet before climbing in so we didn’t transfer any grit or dirt into the tub that may have been on the decking. We also used the barbecue that was available and the fire pit which was on our own private island. There is a gravel path that runs around the whole site which stretches to about two miles, if you do a full circuit. There is much wildlife. We saw rabbits, squirrels, a deer, some swans and a woodpecker. There were other birds but my ornithological knowledge is somewhat limited. Inside the lodge are some binoculars so you can get a much closer look if needed. In conclusion we had a fantastic time and created some lovely memories. I can see us returning in the future.

We have been visiting for my birthday since my 40th, this was our 4th stay and we’ve booked our 5th stay next December. We seldom visit a place more than once, but we just want to keep coming back to this place.
We stay in Island Lodge, our hearts are there. It’s our happy place. You cannot help but fall in love with the whole place, for us it’s simply magical. We shut ourselves away from the world and switch off.
Our lodge is equipped with everything we ever need, the kitchen has everything we need, and is spotlessly clean. Supermarkets are a short drive away (Waitrose, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl) for you to stock the cupboards/fridge/freezer etc.
The lodge is spacious, has a washing machine if needed although we didn’t. Rooms offer enough space and the log fire is divine.
We paid for early check in (really worth it and annoyed we haven’t done this before), we added fishing for my son although he was not at all lucky sadly, and we paid for the hot tub. We added the hot tub and fishing a couple of days before our stay as I wanted to ensure the weather. This was not a problem, James is very accommodating.
My son (12y) loved making a campfire and it was lovely to see him enthusiastically go out hunting for twigs and wood (thanks to the storm the weekend before there were plenty!) He spent his time fishing and making a fire, so refreshing to see him away from his phone!
Bakers Arms - local pub nearby about a 30 minute walk, dog friendly, we never ate there but probably will next year when we visit.
There’s more and more I could say. We are all just totally in love with the place and love everything about it. Heaven is a place on hearth. It’s Log House Holidays.

Our 3 night stay was one of the best weekends away we've ever had. We loved everything about it - the location, the setting of our lodge (Montys Retreat), the peace, quiet, wildlife and activities - particularly the hot tub and rowing boat. Highly recommend for a relaxing break either as a couple or a family get-together in one of the bigger properties. Would love to return.

We are regular visitors to Log House Holidays, but this was our first booking of the cabin called Moondara. This has 3 large upstairs bedrooms and one ground floor bedroom; 3 large bathrooms; a well equipped kitchen and a large airy dining area. The house is clean; well equipped and has parking for 3 cars. The outside space has BBQ, hot tub, table and seating; beach; fire pit and mooring for a good size dinghy. Our visitors were a range of ages and all enjoyed the house's facilities, the lake and local walks. The house is dog friendly! Overall a lovely relaxed visit with plenty to do whatever the weather.

All of the other recent reviews are exceptionally well articulated & capture the disappointment, anger & frustration at LHH during the current Covid-19 crisis.
We too have paid a significant amount of money to stay over Easter weekend, but due to the government ban on travel, we are unable to visit. We were certain that LHH would be in contact to apologize for the unavoidable situation, and to reach a compromise with anyone staying over the next few months - a partial refund or reschedule of dates. To our utter disappointment (and I can confirm the "blanket" email already quoted in many reviews was received), LHH advised they would not be refunding any part of the fully paid amount (including "extras" such as hot tub heating!!) and wouldn't allow us to move our stay to a later date. Over Easter weekend alone, I estimate LHH will be making in excess of £15,000 - pure profit!
We had no intention of asking for a refund & very much wanted to enjoy our trip to LHH at another point in the year (or even in 2021), supporting a small business.
We have friends (with young children), who have a similar family set up in Somerset. They have proactively contacted all customers to offer a full refund or reschedule their stay. That's true customer service and a perfect example of supporting a nation at a difficult time.
We will be seeking further advice on this matter, but advise anyone staying at LHH over the next few months to cancel asap and avoid be stitched up like many of us have been.

We apologise that we have not been able to offer you the holiday you planned to enjoy with us. The terms of our family managed Nature Reserve are consistent with protecting both our business and future guests from issues outside of our control and we cannot afford to refund or rollover holidays due to the totality and immediacy of the extreme circumstances. It is again very unfair to state we are profiteering from this difficult time. We are simply following our very clear terms. We make it clear during our booking process that guests must take out insurance in order to protect their holidays. The majority of our guests do have travel insurance as recommended and are being fulled covered. We wish you all the best over the coming weeks.

Having looked many times at these Log House holidays for quite some time but always found them to be expensive as we would normally cruise, we finally booked a late cancellation at £1510.00 at Kaiser Kabin for a Mon-Fri 4 night stay. I had just come out of hospital & was in desperate need of some rest as I have a terminal illness & are wheelchair bound. On arrival at the lodge the entrance porch had 2 very steep steps in close proximity & a heavy door that opened out. We were told at the time of booking that there was a step up to the property but advised we had a portable ramp if this was not adequate we were told that a suitable ramp could be made to work. However when trying to access the property it was an impossible & mauling task for my husband to try & open a heavy door & manoeuvre my wheelchair at the same time & he actually almost toppled the wheelchair on 3 separate occasions which was very scary & caused great anxiety for both of us. On contacting James he bought us over 2 pieces of approx 1 inch plywood to act as a further ramp which still remained very difficult to manoeuvre in & out of the lodge. The lodge itself was very tired looking with dirty lights/lampshade, very dirty curtains ( hanging off the rail in the downstairs bedroom) & the exterior woodwork never seemed like it had seen a lick of varnish (maintenance that could of easily been achieved throughout nearly 18 months of lockdown). We then discovered even more & steeper steps down from the lodge to the decking which could definitely not be accessed in a wheelchair. In the evening the lodge was swarming in midges & mosquitoes which was very unpleasant to sit around, we eventually decided to leave on Thursday evening as we could not stand it any longer. If you break the cost down we could of stayed in a 5 star accessible hotel with food but we opted for the lodge thinking it would be a tranquil peaceful break for me to recover however it was a nightmare & I came home in floods of emotions & tears.

Sadly we believe this review is inappropriately rated at one star based on feedback from the guest during their stay and all of our guest's regular feedback and reviews. Some of this review is also incorrect. We were shocked to receive this review after being told they were very happy with the cabin when we checked in at the start and end of the holiday. After calling the guest immediately after receiving this review we have been told that they would only consider removing the review if a refund was given. Before this booking was made I spoke on the phone with these guests and explained that this last minute gap was at Kaisers Kabin which was not disabled friendly. I explained that there were steps into the property and I was told that this was not a problem as ramps could be brought. On arrival I immediately supplied some ramps when asked for to make access more possible and they were gratefully received. The feedback on the few times during the stay that I spoke with the guests was that everything was fine. We also always mention when we check people in on the first night to let us know if they need anything and we were not contacted at any point to ask for anything that might have made accessibility better. If it had been mentioned we would of course come round immediately to help in anyway we could. We take great effort to maintain our luxury cabins inside and out and the comment about the outside of the cabin having never been varnished is very confusing to us. The majority of the decking is at the same level as ground level and the stepped area you are referring to is the boat dock. As mentioned above I clearly expressed that this cabin was not disabled friendly and that Moondara has been designed to be more accessible. Being in a nature reserve in early spring there are times when there are midges but we must point out that they do not bite like mosquitoes. This is not something that guests ever mention as being a problem and it has been greatly over exaggerated here. We pride ourselves on having exceptionally clean cabins so are disappointed that you felt this was not the case. We are very saddened by this review and are obviously disappointed that the guests expectations were not met.

Lake Springs House Log cabin. The outside space is unsurpassed; an idyllic haven of tranquil beauty. Sitting by the fire pit in the dark, toasting marshmallows and listening to the birds settling and the fish jumping in the lake was so relaxing. Cycling ( for the first time in years) around the beautiful countryside surrounding the cabin was wonderful, and we were so impressed by the work the team has put in over the years to reinvent the old gravel pit. Thousands of trees and reeds have been planted in order to achieve the superb habitat that has now deservedly been awarded SSSI Status. Dinner at the Potting Shed at Crudwell was extremely pleasant, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

I am not a dog owner but it is definitely a dog friendly and welcoming place at Log House Holidays, I’m sure that many dogs enjoy trips in the rowing boats and canoes and swims in the lake. There are no enclosed gardens but each lodge is schcluded and private. I am sure as long as dogs are well behaved they may be walked without their leads. Any queries contact Anthony at LHH direct (details on their website). I would highly recommend LHH.
