Detailed Reviews
We stayed there overnight on our drive around the southern high country. Our room including a bathroom was quite adequate, the bed comfortable enough, and a decent continental breakfast. For the price we paid we were quite pleased. The bar is like a muesum, with all sorts of memorabilia and local history all over the place.
A great barman, a roaring fire, and a dinner that I'll never forget. The thick Pork Sausages on a bed of mashed potato, smothered in onion gravy with assorted vegies, was an 11 out of 10. A truly unique experience !

This is a lovely country pub! It's very relaxed and you feel at home as soon as you walk through the doors. Locals are kind and welcoming, there is a lovely warm fire, the meals are good and very generous servings and cold beer. Great place to stop or to stay!

Friendly staff, good meal (mmmm,10/10 chips) which came out quickly and a comfy bed. What more could you ask for? Woods Point is gorgeous! Have been wanting to stay here since reading a Herald Sun article about 5 years ago and it lived up to its reputation. Worth the drive despite the, at times, corrugated road and sooky husband whingeing about it!🤣🤣. The bar is the stuff of legends. I loved this beautiful old pub! Only thing we would have liked was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. No telly, but that was refeshing.

2 hour wait for food, in which time the staff told us to "shut your children up as people can hear them". We tried to speak with the publican who told us he "should have kicked us out when our children woke him up at 6 pm"? Never have we experienced such offensive behaviour from a business owner, let alone in a noisy country pub. Save yourself the abuse and drive on past.

This is a nice old pub but the tap beer was flat, the $8 stubbies were warm and it took just over 2 hours for our group to receive all of their meals. The meals were great but the beer was still flat after 2 hours with no offer of fixing it. It wasn't a busy day so I would hate to be eating here if it was a busy weekend. We were here a couple of years ago and enjoyed everything......something has changed!

+1
This was the 2nd time I had taken a large 4WD group to stay at the Woods Point Hotel and we had pretty much booked out the entire accommodation. They were very helpful from the first email to the subsequent phone calls as I am rather fussy when it comes to securing the hotel and then pre-allocating all the rooms. When we arrived after a very a long day of 4WDing they checked us in with efficiency making the whole process for 28 people seamless. (They had the list I sent to them already at the bar ready to be checked off)
The service was great and the meals were traditional country heartiness and great value. We made it a busy night for them. The accommodation was upstairs with the 1930’s – 1940’s décor which makes it feel very historic and you know you are in the remote hotel in a remote area. There are rooms with ensuites and there is also a men’s shared bathroom and separate ladies bathroom for those without ensuites. These facilities are basic, clean and functional. All sheets, towels and soap is provided, you might need to bring your preferred shampoo. You just need to be aware this is a remote country pub and not a city hotel so there are no "Bells and whistles" as such, which is all part of the charm.
The owner kindly kept the bar open based on our needs so it was a late night and even more special when the team from the bar also joined us once the heavy rush was over. Special credit to Tania (the owner) and to Carl and Florence behind the bar who all made it a special evening.
For larger groups they charge bed and full breakfast for $65 per head. The whole evening topped off a top day and we certainly set for a 3rd visit one day.

This was our second visit to the Commercial Hotsl in Woods Point, the first was for lunch a couple of years ago when we found ourselves doing a drive out of Mansfield along a road we had never heard of to an area never visited before, on one of our many weekend get aways around VIctoria. Woods Point is a quaint old gold mining town, just remote enough so that there are not loads of tourists (like ourselves). The pub is frequented by locals, 4WD & trail bike enthusiasts. My husband and I were wanting to get away for 1 night of the Labour Day long weekend, & I was thrilled when the pub did have one double room left when I rang the afternoon we were wanting to head away. Woods Point is a wonderfully picturesque 3 hour drive from our home in eastern Melbourne, the fresh air was bliss!! Our room was basic, spotless & the bed comfortable (we slept for 12 hrs!), it had a spotless ensuite. We had a delicious pub meal and a couple of bottles of wine... and a Port, so good we just had to walk upstairs for the night. Lovely little beer garden to sit out in, or plenty of tables indoors for when it gets chilly.

Disappointed that we couldn't get a meal as arrived 5 mins late for lunch service. 8 people buying lunch - you'd think would be worthwhile keeping the kitchen open a little longer. The $6 toastIe made with "plastic cheese" was a disappointing substitute for a hearty counter meal. Given that woods point is so remote, it might be worth the publican considering an all day kitchen to accommodate visitors as I know we weren't the only disappointed visitors that day. We didn't really get that country town feel that we had last time we visited. Oh, and fix the leaking tap in the men's toilet as that didn't add to the ambience either.

Response from Woods Point C, Owner at Woods Point Commercial Hotel
Responded 19 July 2018
Thank-you for stopping by Carrie - An all day kitchen would be great, if it was possible to find and pay staff to manage it all day in such a remote location. It's an enormous effort to re-open the kitchen for a group of visitors when we have just finished up our lunch service and completed dinner prep for our evening menu. Our kitchen staff also have to manage several other areas of the bar and business, Including the 20+ lunch orders for our regular Miners and contractors that stay long term! Extra help in such a remote location as Woods Point is hard to find and unfortunately we're stuck to a tight schedule with lunch times to manage so many meals on a skeleton staff most of the year. Thank-you for fixing the leaking the tap, our hotel values energy conservation & a cozy atmosphere as im sure you noticed, we actually the have the entire building heated by hot water radiators via the central fireplace in the Pool Room / Main Bar! Hope to see you again some time, If you pass through while the kitchen is open we are pumping out amazing meals every day and would love to send you off with a full stomach next time!

Unfortunately, I came in too late to try a meal, but I had a great sleep in a clean and comfortable room, then breakfast on the verandah watching the summer mountains. For the old-world country pub experience, it was a 5.

I rode my bike to Woods Point and had dinner in the hotel. It was a great venue, great atmosphere, friendly staff and good value for money. An interesting group of locals and miners that welcome visitors.
