We stayed one night with Xavier and his family and it was absolutely perfect. The setting of the detached guest area is very quiet and extremely peaceful. You just sit there or chill in the hammock and let life pass by. We had dinner and breakfast here and it was the best food we had during our trip in India...

We spent 5 days in Xavier and Lowely's home, and no words can describe how truly wonderful our stay was. This authentic homestay is over one hundred years old, except for the guesthouse. The rooms and bathroom are perfect, and the large terrace also has electric fans and suspended beds to laze about on. The garden is just lovely, and...

I'm not surprised that this is rated as top 1. One of the best homestays that we have stayed in. Calm and beautiful surroundings. Mr Xavier and his wife made us very welcome.food was excellent and the canoe trips through the backwaters magical. Room was clean and mosquito proof . Xavier showed us the village snake boat of which he is captain. Read God of small things whilst staying as it is set here. And the price is very reasonable...

This is the perfect place to be. I loved sleeping outside on the swinging beds (but you don't have to). The couple running the place is extremely helpful. Breakfast was delicious and we also got a tour of the village. I definitely want to go back there.

Mr Xavier and his wife, the fresh cuisine (gorgeous fish) the tropical village backdrop and the backwater ride made our one night homestay a dream! My favourite thing was not even the backwaters themselves, but being toured around the tiny village by Mr Xavier, and drinking fresh cococuts from the garden when returning 'home'. There is a real community atmosphere,...

What a wonderful place to stay right on the backwaters. It is so quiet and peaceful , the host Mr Xaviour and his wife are lovely. The food is plentiful and delicious. Mr Vasu, Who speaks no English, is simply charming serving us with grace from a by gone era. We did a boat ride around the back waters and...

At the risk of sounding like its official PR, I shall say that this homestay was a dream. I had come here chiefly to explore the country of Ayemenyem, the setting of Arundhati Roy’s novel ‘The God of Small Things’. And so it was exceedingly delightful that Mr Xavier, the owner of Backwater Heritage Homestay, told me within minutes of...

My friend and I stayed at Backwater Heritage Homestay for two days in July 2016, and it was without any doubt the highlight of our trip in Kerala. The place is quiet and beautiful, and there was something magical about being the only guests at that time to enjoy the house and garden. Mr Xavier and his wife are lovely...
