Good bits: location is centre of town, close to bus stops and near restaurants and other eateries; they try hard with free facilities like tea and coffee and two saunas; breakfast was fine. Bad bits: Very pricey, these are more than London prices for a basic, rural hotel; it's showing it age in many ways but it just about copes...

Very friendly, accommodating hotel. Very close to the ski bus so nice and convenient. They have a sauna/steam too and small gym. Staff are great and the Norwegian breakfasts are awesome. Overall a great ski hotel.

The hotel is situated in calm place and has only basic facilities. The rooms are relatively spacious. Renovation is desirable. In total the hotel offers nothing special, but good sleep, so it was good for one night stay.

We visited hemsedal in july and stayed at skogstad for one night. The hotel is in the middle of hemsedal, about 2 min drive from the ski center so the location is very good. July was a sloe month here as you can imagine but the hotel was well kept and staffed during off season as well. The only annoying...

Though service minded and positive staff the hotel barely warants being called a hotel. The rooms are a bare basics and remind me of my university dorms built cheap in the early 70s... Worn down with some interesting colors and a lot of exposed wood. The beds are probably what IKEA sold in the 70s, not very comfy.

Better option if you don't want to stay at a cabin. Room was rather small, but seemed to be recently refurbished. Nice views of mountain range. No hairdryer, TV didn't work properly. Little space to hang/put clothes. Simple bathroom with small shower cabinet. The breakfast was very good. Great location in center of town, several dining options close by.

Room Nice small room, clean but with few hooks to hang clothes. Two stories by ladder, kids loved it. Large balcony. Clean bathroom. TV and fridge in form of a mini bar. Should add hangers, especially above wall heater. That painting with a stilleben could easily fit somewhere else. Fantastic WiFi with at least 40 APs. Excellent speed in lowly...

As a family we enjoy skiing very much and like to be the first at the slopes in the morning. So do others that stayed at the hotel. Ski bus leaves 8.40 and breakfast is served from 8..(!). We have NEVER stayed at a ski hotel where people stay to sleep late. When we checked in we were told that...

Nice hosts and staff. Like the Down Town location. Would appriciate internet over the entire hotel. A hair-dryer and a refrigerator (not neccesary filled up) in each room. All in all: My best alternative in HEMSEDAL.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hospitality since 1905, Skogstad Hotel is a historic hotel in the heart of the center of Hemsedal. The hotel has long traditions and culture, with history and the atmosphere in the walls. The hotel has in recent years undergone a major renovation process, and this year's news is that we now have ski-in with the new skislope going from the skicenter. The story of Skogstad Hotel began in 1905 as a combination of farm, general store, inn and guest house. There were animals like chickens and pigs that put eggs and bacon on the table at the time, and farm operations were underway throughout the year. Then as now, Hemsedal was a stopover between the east and west, and the guest house was open only in summer and in Easter week. In 1961, the first ski trail in Hemsedal village was made by volunteers. That's when tourism to the village began to rise. The pension began to take in winter visitors, it was built on and Skogstad finally got hotel status in 1964. The hotel has adapted to the flow of tourists and currently has facilities to satisfy the most. The hotel is today still a family hotel run by the fifth genration. The staff at the hotel has taken care of the homely and informal atmosphere of the transport station time. ... more   less

“I'd probably pay the extra and go for a normal double rather than a twin economy as from all my trips to Scandinavia I don't think I've ever come across a double bed so if you were sharing with a friend it wouldn't matter.”
