The hotel is located in the quieter part of Chaweng Beach which means it is a much quieter area. This means that the noise level is much lower but you need to transport yourself by taxi in 5-10 minutes into the main street of Chaweng Beach. The hotel is a very cozy hotel for those who want peace and quiet on holiday. The hotel has its own beach which is very nice and with its own sun beds. Breakfast has a very large selection of Western and Asian food and is super fresh. The rooms are a bit older in style but still very fresh. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is highly recommended for those who are going to Koh Samui and do not want to go on in the throng of the main street of Chaweng Beach.

Overall we enjoyed our 4 nights at the New Star. The highlight was breakfast with an excellent range of both Thai and Western cuisine complemented by friendly and attentive staff. The swimming pool is quite large with varying depths and never crowded. The beach is kept clean with some shaded areas.
Unfortunately our room revealed some examples of maintenance neglect. The room safe batteries had not been checked and had long died (hopefully painlessly). The hot water tempering valve needs replacing which is why the water temperature in the shower kept fluctuating between hot and cold. Separate information about what television channels (and languages) are available would be helpful. A desk lamp for working at night in an otherwise dimly-lit (albeit romantic) room would be useful. One air conditioning unit to cool the bedroom area does not reach other areas of the bungalow which can become quite hot (perhaps consider the addition of a fan in the bathroom). Daily housekeeping is inconsistent when providing a clean, complete set of towels, which then requires a call to reception (on more than one occasion) to rectify.
We hope you find our review useful.

Stayed in New Star Beach Resort recently and totally had a great time there. The beach vibes here are fabulous, a perfect hotel to stay, and just laze around at the beach. The Chaweng Noi is a long stretch of soft sandy beach with really calm waters. We got the beach front villa, so convenient, open the door, and you are right on the beach. The villa is spacious, with a sitting area, bedroom area, varendah, and a huge bathroom with tub, an indoor shower as well as an outdoor shower.

As for facilities, the hotel has a swimming pool, pool bar, buffet breakfast hall, and a lunch and dinner restaurant. They also have a fitness center and a game room.

The staff is really friendly here and very attentive to your needs.

If you have a late flight, you can check out of your room, and they do have a private shower where you can freshen up when you come by to collect your bags.

Sold as a 4-star hotel, this property does not deserve the Rating given. We bought a room for three adults, but this hotel does not have triple rooms, so they adapted a double room with a camping bed attached to the double bed, so close to prevent access to the bed for both the single and double bed. Dirty floor, dirty towels and laundry, worn toilet cover. The shower glasses dirty but really dirty. Also at security level there is no handrail to descend the stairs from the first floor, this in the evening is a serious problem for low lighting. The bedroom bathroom has a walkway that leads to the toilet and showers dangerous, you risk getting seriously hurt. Rude staff, people to whom the customer problem remains the customer problem. Obviously both the Trips Agency and the Supplier have great responsibilities in selling a product that does not conform to the lavishly paid expectations.

We had high expectations but unfortunately this Resort does not offer the cleanliness and services we expected from a 4-star hotel. Rooms a bit dated but above all unsuitable for the needs of a family. For 4 people (two adults and two children) we were offered a double bed and a camping bed without any willingness to recognize the obvious inconsistency with the room booked. In the end to not ruin our holiday we had to pay a substantial surcharge... turning a blind eye to the ants in the bathroom and the holes in the sheets and towels. Little information and no assistance and safety services for bathers. It is also necessary to pay close attention to the freshness of the food consumed in the restaurant

I hesitated at the initial star rating here. There is no "good" to choose from between "satisfactory" and "very good". Because that is correct in my subjective judgment.
The hotel is very old. We were only offered a different room than the one we had booked. A supposed upgrade. However, this room was totally rocked. I then insisted on our Deluxe Balcony booking. After some waiting time we were able to move into this room.
The complex has a beautiful palm and plant population. Really quaint. The beach was now filled with building sand (?!, coarser, stonier than at the bottom of the water) above the loungers in July. A small hill down or up to the sea:).
The hotel has few rooms, which has the advantage that it is not crowded. The morning breakfast buffet is manageable but delicious. Down at the beach bar, which is also considered a restaurant in the evening, you get good and delicious food at small prices. And every day there is happy hour in the early afternoon and evening.
Located about 3 km outside of Chaweng. So you just walk (about 45 m in minutes) or take a taxi or tuk tuk.

Initially I booked Centara, but the management confirmed to me only 9 days of reservation instead of 11, so I decided to spend the first 2 days at the New star hotel. The hotel is located in a quiet area of Chaweng Noi and if you are looking for privacy, peace and tranquility, then the hotel is quite suitable.

Briefly about this hotel:

pros:
Beautiful beach
Quite large and deep pool
Beautiful area
Silence and grace

minuses:
The hotel is located on a hill and hiking up and down is a given.
Water in the pool (swim in it only with glasses or with your eyes closed, some reagent is added to the water due to which it is impossible to open your eyes in the pool, it begins to sting very strongly. This is the only negative sensation from the reagent; it has no effect on the skin ).
Some kind of stupid layout of the villas (high ceilings are good, but due to the 4-meter ceilings the villa takes a long time to cool down; the doors in the shower are made of transparent glass almost opposite the mirror in the hallway, is this some kind of creative solution???
In the villa itself you get a large bedroom and a small living room, maybe it was necessary to do the opposite, because the second room turns out to be some kind of unused appendix.

Overall, it’s a good hotel, the breakfasts are very ordinary (in my opinion, this is a 4-star level), good cuisine for dinner, and friendly and polite staff.

We stayed here for 9 nights with our 15 year old in a villa. We used the living room as a bedroom for him which worked perfectly as the villa was very spacious.

The infinity pool right on the beach is a huge plus, its so relaxing and the beach is pristine, with a lovely warm blue sea. The hotel has beds on the beach and around the pool - we were never able to not get a bed, they were always beds available.

The restaurant/pool staff were always friendly and very helpful - we saw Dream and Rueng most days and both were always going above and beyond to check everything was ok.

We did the happy hour and lunchtime special most days as the beef salad was delicious :-)

At the time of our visit the spa was closed.

Resort near the sea, with bar and restaurant on the beach. Very clean. The staff was very friendly. The Resort also has a gym always close to the beach, very well equipped. It is a fabulous place, where the sea is spotless and there is the possibility to rent jet skis, canoes and other attractions

The beach and swimming pool are really really nice! Can’t fault the location. Staff were also super sweet and nice.
The hotel is very run down. Mold on the ceilings in the hotel room, outside bath took about an hour to fill up. The electricity went off in the middle of my shower and the water was freezing cold. Shower head was full of dirt and limescale. Door to the cottage had a huge gap when it was closed which did not evoke a safe feeling. Light switch was even dirty. Breakfast was…well edible but very basic for the price we paid. Not enough seats for everyone in the morning. Tables are constantly sticky which was gross. We left a day early as I couldn’t stand how gross it was - changed our flights and went back to Bangkok on NYE. It has the bones to be a good setup but the place needs a massive overhaul.

Do you have mosquito repellent in the room and do you fog the property Many thanks Susan
Answer from 2beachbums79

No problem with mosquitos, there is a electronic repellant device in the room, plug it in with the pad and no problems. Loved the place.. There is another question about "ducks" They do have a program where you may leave a duck of some sort or buy one... no big deal kind of cute. The beach is great, the staff wonderful. Have fun!
Answer from 2beachbums79

Ducks not a problem, a collection in the lobby, available for purchase in the room but not required. NOT a big deal, cute theme kind of thing

The part of the beach is the most beautiful of the entire Chaweng in my opinion. Clear, swimmable and not deep.
