The Premier Inn Cardiff West Hotel garners appreciation for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff, who are often commended for their helpfulness, despite occasional understaffing issues. While opinions on the rooms vary, with some guests finding them comfortable and others noting problems with temperature and cleanliness, the hotel's location is popular for its proximity to Cardiff and Barry, plus the convenience of free parking.
While the hotel's value receives mixed reviews, its cleanliness, particularly in common areas and bathrooms, is frequently praised, as are its amenities, including the on-site restaurant, although some guests have minor concerns about Wi-Fi connectivity.

Thank you for such a great stay. The staff are all fantastic very kind and caring. It was so hot when my friend and I arrived after a long journey from Derbyshire with the kids. They put a fan in our room and gave us sheets to use incase the duvets were too warm. The Beefeater restaurant was also brilliant.

We visited here for a couple of nights as we planned to visit St Fagans which is nearby, the location for this was excellent. We used the attached beefeater on both nights of our stay and the staff at the hotel and at the restaurant was excellent on all occasions, cheerful and helpful.

Had a peaceful stay with this hotel, stayed for two days and staff did everything they could to help. We stayed in the accessible shower disabled room there was more than enough space, we also had family round to visit at the hotel, which you can do at this hotel. Got there late on Friday and the kitchen stayed open to make us some hot things from the restaurant menu so that was lovely of them, staff all really helpful, food lovely also.

We stayed for Saturday and Sunday nights in Wenvoe, as we were visiting family in Cardiff. The hotel was convenient and fairly basic, but we just wanted a good night's sleep and a decent breakfast with an evening meal on the Sunday. The staff on Reception were generally friendly and helpful, and the room had been cleaned and serviced although we only had one set of towels for two of us - Reception staff obligingly sorted us out some more. The bedroom seemed cold, and nothing we could do with the heating controls seemed to work - we found out when we checked out that we should have contacted Reception to override the "Cool" setting, not something we could do ourselves! Breakfast on both days was excellent, well cooked and served. Dinner on the Sunday night was less good; we waited for what seemed ages to have our order taken, and when the food arrived some of it was lukewarm (my chips and sweetcorn), and seemed to have been standing around for a while. My chicken was tough, and my "side salad" was a small pile of rocket; not a great meal, and we passed on dessert. Overall we had a reasonable stay, but I would not eat dinner in the Beefeater attached to the hotel again.

I usually choose Premier Inn for its reliable comfort, but this stay felt more like a Travelodge. On arrival, the room had a musty smell and no heating, which wasn’t a great first impression. However, it did appear clean. The pillows were hard, and the duvet was stiff—not the usual cosy bedding I expect from Premier Inn. The mattress was lumpy and nowhere near the standard I’ve come to rely on.
Regulating the room temperature was frustrating. The electric radiator beeped and crackled when turned on, then switched itself off randomly, making it impossible to keep the room at a comfortable temperature.
On the plus side, the location is great for heading into downtown Cardiff, with a short taxi ride or Uber costing around £12-15 each way. It’s also a good base for exploring Barry Island, making it a convenient option if you’re planning to visit both areas. Unfortunately, the stay itself didn’t live up to Premier Inn’s usual standards.

The good points are plenty of parking and a great location, also the breakfasts were alright. Having read other reviews we decided not risk eating dinners in the restaurant and ate elsewhere. We often travel to this area but will never stay in the Premier Inn again. After a 4.5 hours drive we arrived at 2.40pm and were told by a rather officious receptionist that we'd have to pay £10 to check in early!!! We sat in reception for 20 minutes to save the £10. We weren't the only ones. What a joke! The place could do with a deep clean and the waiting staff should be taught to "never go anywhere empty handed". When delivering full plates to a table why not take the empty plates away with you? The tables in the restaurant were tacky and the floor was pretty grim. On the morning of 31st July there was only one poor waiter on duty and he was being pushed to the limit, poor bloke. We were only provided with one bath towel in the bedroom, although there were plenty of pillows on offer. We had to seek out a housekeeper to find an additional towel.

Poor hotel very tired. We arrived an hour before our check in so asked if the rooms were ready. The rooms were ready but if we washed them before 3pm we had to pay an extra £10 early check in fee? Room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was humiliating as we were not down in the just as being paid. We had paid during check in but we weren’t on the list and so we were made to wait while the waitress went to check with reception that we had paid? It was awful. Never again

Severely lacking in experienced staff over the Christmas period. You dont expect too much from a budget hotel, but Premier Inn always pride themselves jn customer service and a warm welcome. We got neither.
Rooms left uncleaned despite requesting at reception like we were asked, in room refreshments not refreshed. At the end of our stay we found a pair of someone else's shoes under the bed, so lack of cleaning even between guests clearly an issue. Biggest problem by far was finding a member of staff you could have a civil conversation with. Hats off though to the young lady taking breakfast orders who managed to crack a smile and look like she actually wanted to be there.

Stayed 2 nights. When we arrived there was no remote in the room, went down to reception and got a remote 10 minutes later. First morning breakfast was short staff, he did explain this. Cooked breakfast you have to order not help yourself which is disappointing. Second day lady said we couldn't have 7.30 breakfast as there was a big group booking and said is 7.15 ok. We said yes as it needed to be early as l was running the Cardiff half. Arrived at 7.15 to the restaurant to be told we didn't have a booking. Was told in not a very good manner to go to reception as she couldn't do anything.Went to reception where the lady who booked our breakfast for 7.:15 was and another member of staff was. She said she booked it in for 7.15 and then total ignored us and at no point said sorry. They left us standing there for 5 minutes after we explained the situation doing other paperwork. I had to then say what's happening then. At no point did anyone say sorry the only option they gave was a refund on the breakfast. I said l needed to have a breakfast as l was running the Cardiff half he took us back to the restaurant. The lady said we could take some food back to our room and l told her we was having a cooked breakfast back our room and she agreed but you could tell she didn't want to. At no point was this offered which would of made the situation better. Walking back to the room we saw 2 other couple's who had the same problem. After breakfast l did speak to the manager who came in at 7.30. Again no sorry just l will refund your breakfast and here is a card to complain. We e-mailed it took more the 15 days to reply which is the time frame they say. It took over 3 weeks. E-mail was a waste of time as the staff lied and said they told us to come down at 7.00 because of the big booking and we arrived at 7.15 when it was fully booked.Awful customer services at this hotel will not be returning again.

We attended after phoning to make sure there was a travel cot in our room as we were checking in late and wanted to make sure all was ready and it was all set up. To be told curtly on the phone "all our rooms are ready" when we got there we discovered that the cot had no mattress, a rather unfriendly lady on the desk told us "we don't supply mattresses for cots it's not our policy" I explained that without a mattress our child is basically sleeping on a board. You wouldn't sleep on a bed frame without a mattress, why would a baby? She then said she would give us a mattress, but proceeded to hand us a single duvet. Now I'm not sure how they justify saying that mattresses are a choking risk but don't think that a BABY sleeping on a folded duvet isn't a sufficatuon risk!!! Seriously dangerous suggestion by the lady on the desk. Our child didn't sleep at all, which means we didn't sleep at all. On investigation we also found that the travel cot supplied was broken, the wooden slats that they expected her to sleep on were missing pieces so the cot wasn't even fit to be used as a playpen let alone a cot as her feet kept slipping through the holes in the gap.
Coupling all this with the fact that the curtain pole wasn't attached properly and actually fell on our daughter and the fact that when we came to check out in the morning the corridor was totally blocked with cleaners carts making it impossible for us to get out with our baby. We had a horrible horrible stay.
You are braking fire safety regulations!!! Lady on the desks reply, "well if there is a fire, come to reception and we will move them" Oh so we will just leave the baby behind shall we. "Oh well the cleaners are there now" no they weren't. Those carts were still blocking the corridor when we left having been there for nearly an hour. The lady was unfriendly, uncaring that our daughter had been hurt with a curtain rail falling on her (didn't even ask if she was ok). And just kept saying "it's our policy" to everything and anything we asked.
We always stay in Premier Inn. I'm devastated at how rubbish this was in every way. Unkind, uncaring unhelpful and dangerous on 3 scores. When we asked for a manager we were told there isn't one. He's off site. We asked her to get him to call us and he still hasn't. Honestly, anyone reading this pick a different hotel!

Personally you would be better off getting the train from Cardiff Central if you are in there as it stops at Barry Island. Not sure about the taxis but there is parking at Barry train station, as the train from there stops at Barry Island.
There are more places to choose from in the Wenvoe area.
