I had just stayed at this cosy little ryokan which is located right at the heart of Furano Town with my wife and our 3 years old boy and we had a wonderful stay. Our trip was make perfect by the hospitality of the old granny and his son during our 3 nights stay at this traditional, no frill, ryokan. My boy especially likes the bath area! This is definitely a good place to stay if you are looking for a convenient location in Furano to stay, and if you drive, the ryokan provides free parking. What is most impressive is the free wired internet in the room as well. I would strongly recommend you go for the dinner (at JPY1000 per person) as well, as it is not only thoughtfully prepared by the granny, but it is also super value for money with the cost of living in Japan.

3 of us are visiting Hokkaido for the 1st time, and this happen to be our 1st accommodation upon touch down. The winter is harsh and Snow is piling up everywhere along the streets. We were the only guest, thus having the luxury of occupying the whole 3rooms on upper floor. Owner speaks proper English, it's only about 10min walk from the train/bus station, all convenience shops, café and restaurant(Izakaya) are nearby
Enjoyed breakfast in-house both days, everything are nutritious and satisfying for the palette. You can smoke anywhere in the house.

The Ryokan has a traditional bathroom downstairs, it's such a relief soaking inside hot water after long walks in the day
Did not opt for the dinner as choices are abundant elsewhere. The cats are well trained, rather hard to snap a pic with them!

I went to Furano for the Lavender fields, and wanted to have something centrally located and preferably family owned. This cat themed Ryokan is only 1 minute away from the train station, and is owned by a family and two cute cats. They also prepare breakfast and dinner themselves if booked. We were there during a small town festival, and got two homemade yukata on a loan for the occasion! I really recommend staying in this Ryokan.

Do note that this is a Japanese style Ryokan, so you sleep on a mattress on tatami mats (floor) and the common bathroom is segregated. The rooms are not too big, and have a TV and washline. You can do laundry at a charge too. Free internet available in rooms.

This ryokan is a stone's throw from the station (walk out of the station, down past the bus terminal to the right, cross the road, walk one block past the Heso-matsuri statues that look like little mushroom men and the inn is within eyeshot of the next intersection across the road to the right). This sleepy little ryokan has been open since the early 1900s, but refurbished with fully modernized bathrooms. The rest of the comfortable resthouse has flair and character.
From the time you walk in the door, the owners make you feel at home. They help carry bags to your room and show you around the place. Only a little English is spoken here, but things are well-signed around the ryokan.
I highly recommend full board (breakfast and dinner included) here. It does run 2000 yen extra per person per day for both meals, but the owner is an excellent cook and the presentation is beautiful (a feast for the eyes and mouth). Keep in mind that meals usually include fish and meat as well as local produce (owner has a small garden outside). If you or another guest have special dietary needs, please make them known when you are booking. If you opt against full board, there is a supermarket across the street that closes daily at 1800. I only found two combini nearby, but there are also a few restaurants. I also highly recommend walking to the right out of the ryokan, right at the corner and then to the corner 1-2 blocks down and having a sweet treat at the Shinya sweets shop (see my review).
Rooms are Japanese-style tatami, so you will have to remove your shoes upon entry into the inn and remove your slipper when entering the tatami rooms (I do not recommend wearing fine hose).
Bathrooms downstairs are fully-modern, impeccably clean and shared space( separate men's and women's restrooms with common sink areas to brush teeth and prep hair and makeup). The onsen bath is a good size and comfortable (only one person may use at a time, so I advise taking baths early in the evening--the bath is cleaned daily in the late morning).
Futon are a little hard and you make your own bed (plus put it away in the morning lest you risk tripping over your bedsheets). Close your door or you may have the house cats Mike or Gin come visit you in the off hours.
Mama-San is an excellent seamstress. She has cute miniature kimonos decorating the entranceway and common areas. My fiancée and I arrived during the local beer festival and she and her son dressed us up in beautiful home-made yukata--it added a special memory to our trip.
There is free tea and hot water, microwave and refrigerator use is completely free, and there is a washer and dryer on the premises (100 yen per load of wash and the dryer only goes for 60 minutes at a time). Our room also had a drying line, so I'd you think you will need to do laundry, I recommend brining a few clothes pins. Hangers are in the room as well as a small table, a few sitting cushions, a small closet, TV, and mirror. If you can snag a corner room (#15 was the one we stayed in) there is an excellent cross breeze...there is no AC, but this place was mild (18-26 C low humidity) even in mid- to late-July and there is a rotating desk fan in the room.
You can buy stamps at the front desk and there are two postboxes (one kitty-corner to the ryokan and one next to the station entrance). The owner has an excellent variety of local decorative postage stamps to choose from.

Very near train station. Rooms a bit old but clean. Toilet is new and bathroom clean and spacious. Owner allowed us to cancel one night's of stay (change of travel plans) without charging cancellation fees.

Very reasonable priced of ryokan during peak season with good location, just walking distance to restaurant Yuiga doxon, served famous omelette curry rice. There was no air con during summer is the downside of this ryokan, very hot throughout the stay made us not comfortable. Luckily we only stayed there for one night. The owner could speak very good English.

Comfortable and reasonably-priced accommodation in a convenient location in Furano, just a 5 min (or less) walk to the JR station and downtown area. My mum and I stayed for 2 nights in late July.

The building is a bit old, and facilities are quite basic and traditional (tatami flooring, futon bedding, Japanese bathhouse style bathroom), but everything is very clean and well-maintained. Whimsically charming handmade decorations add to the cozy atmosphere. The hosts are very friendly and helpful too. I'd recommend getting at least 1 meal in-house.. We tried their breakfast on our second morning and it was really delicious and good value for money.. Take a look at the photos for evidence =)

One thing to note is that you may have to go up and down the stairs, which are rather steep, a bit, as the bathroom/toilet is on the ground floor, while many of the rooms are on the 2nd floor. Not a problem generally, though you might want to ask for a ground floor room (might be limited, but I think there are 1 or 2, at least) if you don't like climbing stairs. There is no air-conditioning, though an electric fan is provided and should be sufficient, as the nights are quite cool even in summer.

All in all, I enjoyed the experience, and would recommend this to travelers who are looking for comfortable budget accommodation in a central location in Furano, and/or want to experience the local lifestyle.

Minutes from Furano train station and easy to locate.
No frills but equipped with required amenities.
Room is a bit dated but good enough for comfortable stay. Clean and new bathroom.
Owner speaks relatively good English.
Reasonably priced considering the good location.

It is almost a year now since we stayed here during our summer visit to Hakkaido in 2011 during the lavender and sun flower season. The owner of this inn speaks relatively good English and for the rate we paid this is more than a "very good" in my opinion. Whether you are driving or by public transport, this place is really in the heart of everything in Furano city (town). We particularly like the massage chair which is free to use in the inn. It is kind of half auto and conventional massage chair, you must try it if you are there, although the look can be miss leading and could be easily missed.

The bottomline is that, this place is really worth to stay without any doubts.
