Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We paid 15,000 yen for one night, two guests. The room was bare save for two beds, a table, a fan, and an air conditioner. Shared bathrooms. One shower for all guests. No meals included. We could hear people in the adjacent room talking until late at night. The nightly room rate is absurd considering that this place is basically a hostel. For comparison: We paid 16,000 yen per night at a lodge in Daisetsuzan National Park, which included two meals per day and use of the hotel's onsen. Gooseberry is tripping.

Me and my husband were here for 3 nights, due to restrictions we couldn't get a car however, it wasn't a problem for us as Mariko (the lady who works here) was amazing and so accommodating and helpful. The house and the area were really convenient. We usually stay in hotels when we travel but this was above and beyond our expectations.

The rooms are comfortable and clean, they also have a dog which is perfect for animals lovers.

It's about 5-10 mins walk to the ski place and hotel which we really enjoyed and the skiing was amazing.

There are restaurants close by with great food and you can easily get a taxi to Furano town for 1800 yen where there is a great choice of restaurants.

We would 100% stay here again- an opportunity not to miss!!!

When picking a pension in Furano and Biei, it's about experiencing the vision of the owner. Pension gooseberry is about modern and chic architecture with an Ainu theme (every room has an Ainu name). We stayed in a twin room with ensuite for 1 night. The bathroom is standard pre-fab kind that you see in business hotels. The room is average in size for a pension and it looks out to a cage with two dogs that bark at around 6 am that morning... So, I mean, we could've slept in otherwise. Rooms on 3rd floor are without ensuite bathroom and they have higher ceiling and bigger windows. So, it's kind of a give-and-take between ensuite and headroom. There are many small bugs (nothing scary, like fruit flies) in the room despite the screen window there. The pension is just minutes away from New Furano Prince hotel by car and right next to the horse-riding school. The staff is very friendly and helpful. All in all, we had a great stay. But I'd love to see more character in the bedroom...
