One of the most fantastic diving resorts; a beautiful getaway in a unique ecosystem—tropical fjordlands! This is my second time visiting Tufi and both trips were spectacular. The reefs are some of the most pristine and rich I've dived in PNG and the dive crew really spoils us and takes care of us on these excursions. Seeing a baby whale shark (and my first one ever) just as we had gotten out of our second dive one day was the highlight of the trip. Every dive is unique and you never know what kind of creatures you will encounter.
After a morning in the saltwater what better way to relax than lunch and lounging in the pool sipping kulau (green coconut)? Awesome resort. Jana and Thomas were attentive to our needs and went out of their way to make us feel accommodated. Highly recommend.

I would give a 9/10 for this review; leaving the 1 for certain improvements that needs to be made.
1. Advice: If you wish to travel to Tufi, learn to embrace the fact that you will be one with nature so certain luxuries will not be afforded and please do not have such expectations. Just let loose and soak in the blessings mother nature offers.
2. Travel: Domestic connections are via Air Niugini in Port Moresby. Check with your travel agent.
3. Packages: Tufi offers a variety of tour packages from diving, snokerlling, Fjord Cruise, Waterfall visit, village tour and cultural experience (top-notch). The resort accepts all cards including Visa et al.
4. Cash or Card: The resort encourages a cashless service, but if you are thinking of purchasing souveniers with the locals, do not worry the Resort has an excellent arrangement with the locals where they will charge the artefacts or souveniers to your room and still settle the locals. Tufi is small and everyone knows everyone.
The principle of honesty and respect exists everywhere. You may leave an item outside the resort or elsewhere and it will still be where you left it or be found and returned to you.
5. Communication with the locals Everyone at the Resort has a good command of English. Communication with the locals is not a problem, because every person you will meet understand English and offcourse everyone can speak it as well, it is a Tourist community and interracting with the outside world is something they are used to.
6. Fruits The vegetables and fruits in Tufi are organic. The pineapples and magoes are what should be on your list.
7. Seafood You just have to ask the Resort to prepare you something yummy. The seafood served is always the freshest-straight out of the ocean!
8. Travel Air Niugini and PNG Air has offices within the resort. Arrivals and Departures are always hussle free. They will take perfect care of you and your luggage from arrival to departure!
The entire experience will just want to make you make Tufi your annual destination for holidays!

Having been a scuba diver for over 40 years now, and having just returned from Tufi for the third time in two years, I am so impressed with what is on offer here. Wonderful staff and accommodation, excellent dive guides and Dive Masters, superb dive boat and equipment. The accommodation is excellent, with great rooms and air conditioning. The meals are great and prepared fresh every day from all local produce.
All management, staff and dive guides are just the very best you could ask for. Full marks team.
For any divers considering a trip to Tufi Resort, getting there from Australia is very easy. A flight from Brisbane is only 3 hours, and connecting flight is via Tropic Air, a private charter company about 5 minutes drive from the International Terminal at Port Moresby. Pre arranged when you book, they will collect you from the International Airport and take you to Tropic Air's depot. All dives are exceptional, with visibility around 40 to 50 metres, depending on the dive site. Water temperature is 30 degrees Celsius. I would recommend that you at least have your advanced open water certification as all dives are between 15 to 26 metres. The coral and marine life is stunning, particularly for those with a keen eye for underwater photography.
Great trip all round, and I look forward to seeing you all on our next trip.
Best wishes, Barry Streete, Newcastle, NSW, Australia

This place doesn’t deserve its 4.5 Trip Advisor rating. At best it’s average, and by international standards poor value for money.
We stayed here for a week with friends after a month of diving at three other locations around PNG. Tufi was by far the worst run place we stayed - and the diving the most disappointing.
We understand the current managers will finish up early in 2023, so offer some constructive advice to the new management team:
1. Get rid of the bird. The novelty of a resident Hornbill is drastically outweighed by the annoyance and anxiety it causes the guests, who are near-constantly subjected to its pecking and harassment. The local staff appear as frustrated with the bird as the guests, but seem unable to do anything about it because of its privileged position in the pecking order at the resort (apologies for the droll pun).
2. Either sack the dive team or appoint a manager who understands what it takes to deliver a diving operation at an international standard. Currently it’s well below that (see photo in of the emergency oxygen bottle). Their sullenness and lack of motivation/organization might have something to do with the palpable tension between the local dive team staff and the expat managers.
3. Urgently improve the relationship between the resort and the local community, which is currently poor. We spoke to a community leader who blamed the expat management team for the current tension between locals and the resort. It is untenable for a remote resort in PNG to operate without the support of the local community. While we appreciate that there have been serious security incidents in recent times, armed guards and locked gates are unlikely to be the answer in the long term.
4. Urgently improve the food. As a resort that operates on a “fully inclusive” basis, guests expect a good standard of food and beverage. It currently falls well short of an acceptable international standard. The continental breakfast (which included undrinkable coffee, barely edible “fried rice” and soggy bread) is manifestly inadequate, and it’s rich to ask guests to pay extra for an omelet or scrambled eggs. It’s even worse when the expat managers sit down to a bespoke hot breakfast in front of the guests. At the very least turn down temp on the bar fridge so the beer isn’t tepid!
A final piece of advice to travelers contemplating visiting Tufi - DON’T. You’re much better off going to Walindi (West New Britain Province). The diving is much better (awesome big schools of pelagic fish) and the dive operation is world class. The food and accommodation is also vastly superior to Tufi. Overall it is much better value and more professionally run operation than Tufi.

We really enjoyed our stay at the resort however I gave it 3 Stars because of the “hidden” fees. We asked the manager what we could do and he said “let me organize “ which he did do a great job of however we were not quoted costs. He also arranged each night to have locals come for a native dance one night and a “string band” the other night. We did the fiord cruise, Village and BBQ experience, and waterfalls. It rained but we made the best of it. The manager had his family there and they attended all our excursions as well which I do not believe they paid for which I don’t mind however for the beach BBQ every guest was invited. Not sure if they were charged as well but we definitely were. I am sure this was to save on staff however the cost should be split. We then got charged 300 Kina for the “sing sing” which we thought was included! The manager said each family would pay this. I didn’t ask them. We were also charged for the omelets at breakfast which we also did not know as food was supposed to be included. In total including souvenirs (~800 Kina) Our bill with the flight(part of the package) was 5000 Australia so be aware. Things to know good and bad…
Excursions are non refundable Food is amazing Room are spacious and air conditioned LOTS of bugs at night Highly recommend the waterfall and Village tour Only airline that goes there is TropicAir as AirNiugini left due dogs on the runway. Reef at the beach BBQ reef was bleached but did not do house reef. No need for cash as the resort have a system with the locals If you are scared to fly this is a fairly old single engine plane so would not recommend but if you don’t mind the view is great.
Would recommend but buyer beware.

Tufi is a beautiful land and water not spoilt by development and tourists. The resort allows you to switch off from a busy world and have your breakfast, lunch and dinner organised for you, all within your price! If you want to switch off from a busy world this is for you, but if you want TVs, internet and other mod comms…..stay away! I loved this place and all the beauty that Tufi had to offer…..simple and totally beautiful

1st visit to Tufi after being on our Bucket List for a very long time... Paradise in PNG. Thomas and Jana plus all of the staff make every day adventurous and enjoyable. The snorkelling in the fjord is a 2 Min drive and better than most snorkelling you have done before. Great coral and thousands of fish. Ask Thomas or Jana to show you the special spots as so much to see. We did 3 dives. Bevs Reef and Mulloway were the best dives I have done in PNG and most other countries. Coral is alive, thousands of fish and each dive spot different to the last. 29 degree water and at least 25m visibility.. The Dive team are excellent and make sure you have fun. The Fjord cruise at 4pm is a hilite. So peaceful and a great spot to swim and have a beer. The beach BBQ on the 2nd last day finishes the holiday perfectly.. White sand, great BBQ and heaps of water sports. The room is small but all that you need as you should be outside all day. Definately pay for a room with an ocean view.. Food was a package deal and great quality with coffee, fruit and snacks available all day for free. Snorkelling, kayaks, Sups are all free so every day is as busy or relaxing as you want... Gardens are beautiful and a good pool after spending all day in the ocean. Totally relaxing with Mangoes everywhere in season... 7 days is a perfect trip. 10/10 for Thomas and Jana plus the team and Tufi resort

Our second dive trip to Tufi Resort this year was exceptional to say the least. We went in May of this year, and it was so good then, we decided to head back for 10 days before Christmas. I can honestly say that the sea conditions were exceptional. Like glass every day, no wind, the sun was out, water is 30 degrees, and the visibility, especially on the outer reefs is around 40-50 metres. The dive crew were extremely professional and helpful, and the Tufi Resort staff and management were just the best. Meals are very healthy and beautifully prepared and presented. Accommodation is always spotlessly clean rooms and air conditioned.
Anyone considering a dive trip here should really go and experience the abundance of marine life. If you happen to be an underwater photographer you'll love it.

I planned to do nothing, and that's exactly what I did. It was great! The staff facilitated options to do just enough to keep one entertained but weren't too forceful about it all. Time passed by and life went on. Insofar as the rooms were concerned, mine was definately a little tired but I understand renos are underway. Food was good. Only suggestion would be to create more opportunities for engagement with the local community because it did seem like two very different worlds coexisting in a small place.

Thank you for your review :) Now that COVID has eased in PNG we are excited to get back into the local community and once again promote the village guesthouses and visits and local community. We have been very mindful to try and protect the local community especially given the restricted health facilities that are available in Tufi. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your visit and thank you for visiting Tufi Resort. Oro!

Absolutely magnificent place. Being a scuba diver for over 40 years, I hadn't been here before, but I am so very glad I did. The resort was absolutely beautiful, with more than helpful staff and management. Nothing was ever a problem. The diving was equivalent to how the Barrier Reef and Swains Reefs were back in the 1970's... 30 degrees in the water, with an average visibility of 30-35 metres.
I would, however, recommend that if you intend to visit for diving, that you have some semblance of experience under your belt, and at the minimum, Advanced Open Water Certification.
Sometimes there can be a very slight current on top of the reef in the shallows where we moored the boat, but once in, and over the edge of the reef, it's a very relaxing 40 minute drift dive with hardly any effort required.
There is so much marine life there it is awe inspiring to say the least. I can highly recommend this resort as a Must Go To for the serious diver, and an extremely relaxing holiday. Great food too.... no complaints there.... Thank you to Jana and Thomas for their hospitality. 5 stars from me.

I've lived in PNG on and off for 10 years. Never take tablets - I think they are overrated. Night time is most prevalent for mosquitoes. Usually get one or two buzzing in your ear all round PNG. Especially in musky / damp hotel rooms.
I think Daru in the west, near rivers, was worst I have ever seen for Mozzies. Plentiful and huge.
I travel with a can of flying insect killer and also some spray on. Spray bedroom a half hour before sleep, especially where lights are and in the bathroom. If sitting up at bar etc. just spray repellent on lower legs and elbows.
April to June is the best time to have less mosquitoes. they are more prevalent in the wet season. Nov - Feb.
There are more places to choose from in the Tufi area.
