I hadn't managed to find a Trip Advisor review of this hotel in advance of our trip, so didn't know what to expect. As a result, I was somewhat disappointed on arrival at the fact that the rooms are quite basic. The two 'double heart' rooms we'd booked were in the attic and half the room was taken up with a sloped roof.

We had been informed that the rooms were in an adjoining building, but it still jarred a bit when we were directed through the lobby down a tiny staircase beside the kitchen out into a courtyard. Things didn't improve much when we had to trudge up two flights of narrow stairs to our room, where the central light bulb had blown. Also, the bathrooms were a bit dated, and the baths aren't full size.

We had also been informed in advance that the ski lifts were 300m from the hotel. This turned out to be down quite a steep hill, which although manageable on the way down, was a killer on the way back up after a day's skiing. The free ski bus which goes past the hotel only does so on the way to the ski lifts, but not on the way back, so is of limited use. We got around this by skiing to another resort at the end of the day and picking up the bus from there on it's way back to les Monetier. On most days however, we drove down and parked at the ski lift. Parking was free, and abundant, but this might not be the case at busy times.

Despite our initial reaction, the hotel turned out to be very good. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and any requests were dealt with promptly and effectively.

The half board option includes a good continental breakfast, and an excellent evening meal. On one evening we ate in the Hotel's Michelin starred restaurant (thanks to the hotel staff squeezing us in, despite being booked out), which is absolutely worth trying. For that night and another night we were not around for the half-board meal, they deducted the cost of the missed meal from our bill.

The spa is very good, but again in an adjoining building, and hotel guest have to pay to hire towels and robes to use in the spa (and aren't allowed to use the room towels).

Overall, this hotel was good value and well located within the town. It is on the main road, but this wasn't a big problem as traffic isn't very heavy.

Coming off the Pass from Val des Isere on motor bikes we were steered to this Lovely cozy , & wonder side street patio with cold beer by Tourist Information center in town . The Inn has lovely spa , outdoor , indoor pool , sauna , cozy indoor bar and restaurant that was not serving food in summer but the value was here & within 50 yards reasonably priced restaurants galore .

We just had such a lovely summer holiday at Hotel Alliey. It was clean, well organised and the food in the restaurant was amazing as usual. Our favorite thing of all however is the spa and outdoor pool which is heated!!! And surrounded by mountains. It's like a little mountain paradise and totally private. We've been before and we'll be back again, there is no doubt about it.

The hotel looks nice and quaint but cramped with friendly staff (except for the highly arrogant patron who did not greet any non-French guests).

The hotel has a very nice contemporary mountain interior design, but rooms in the main building are very small and poorly equipped, you also hear every time you next door neighbors turn in their bed or sneeze. It is located on the main street from Briancon to Grenoble, so do not expect any extended deep sleep.

Altogether it felt like a rip-off. The price was taken by room #27 in the annex at almost €200 a night with h/b with no ventilation at all in a shoe box sized room with 2-3m2 free floor space if the bags were kept between the beds so that the doors could be opened... Should better serve as a locker.

The spa was OK, but unpleasant as there was only one shower so people washed off their days sweat from skiing and steam spa in the big jacuzzi or the outdoor pool, - not nice.

Restaurant food was OK but setting extremely cramped, the tables were 60x60 cm so breakfast and dinners felt like airplane ones, not like a holiday.

We didn't stay at the Hotel Alliey but had dinner in the restaurant our last night there. It was AMAZING. We've been in France numerous and eaten lots of meals - this may have been our all-time best French dining experience. The food was fantastic. Great presentation and flavor. The restaurant was charming and quaint. The service was over the top. Our server, Etienne, was helpful with suggestions, attentive and friendly. It felt like we'd made a new friend by the time we left. Had it not been our last night we'd have certainly gone back to eat there again. And next time we'd look to stay at the hotel as well.

All you expect from a hotel: Good and friendly staff, good food, excellent wine list, terrific spa, great library in the after dinner room, at walking distance from the slopes and all this for a very good price. Worth coming back!

The room was what can only be decribed as a large cupboard off the corridor. It was barely large enough for the bed, very dated and tired decoration, no in room ´luxurieś and noisy (next to the entrance). After a couple nights we were moved to a slightly larger room (higher rates) but still was not quiet and very dated decoration. Both these rooms were in the ´old building´ just behind the main hotel..
We had selected an alĺ inclusive option and were surprised that we were only able to have a very limited menu ( one or two dishes !) rather than a choice of dishes like a restaurant only client. The food was good but nothing exceptional, for the price we paid we have had better. Wine list was reasonable.
The hotel pool was nice and we did appreciate this after a day skiing. It was clean, modern and well maintained.
The staff were not the most welcoming at the reception and overall did not really want to assist with making our stay comfortable, we really felt that every time we requetsed something we were disturbing them as they had better things to do! This is not general as some of the more junior staff were delightful.
The hotel location is central to the town and a steep 5/10min walk to the slopes. Not the easiest place to arrive in the car as the street is a narrow one way so just enough to load/unload before finding a place to park (we parked next to the slope and left our shoes and gear in the car as found it easier than walking up the steep slope every day).
Overall, at this price range I would certainly not recommend or return.

Wonderful stay, although disappointing that the pool (which was a driving factor in my decision to book for our family with kids) was closed for some "issue" throughout our stay. Despite that one big disappointment, the property was a great choice. Apartment-style rooms were well designed, clean and everything looked new. Nice lounge/bar area as well. Besides the pool, there is a very large, warm jacuzzi which was enjoyable although could have been hotter. Breakfast was terrific for those who chose to partake. I also appreciated that the hotel owners were on site and friendly - it's nice to support family-owned businesses. Would recommend for others visiting Monetier-Les-Bains / Serre Chevalier.
