Santa Barbara Golf and Ocean Club earns praise for its friendly staff and excellent service, despite occasional slow service at the bar and check-in. Nestled close to the sea, the hotel's location is celebrated for scenic walks and local amenities, yet some find it a bit isolated. While the hotel is seen as good value, offering affordable options, guests have mixed views on the rooms, with some appreciating the spaciousness and views, and others pointing out noise and maintenance issues.
The amenities, particularly the sunbed booking system and entertainment, are a hit, though the pool can get crowded. Cleanliness is a standout feature, with most areas kept immaculate. The atmosphere is lively, with nightly entertainment, but this can lead to noise for some guests.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel is in a very quiet part of the island between the airport and Costa Silencio. The main attraction is the golf resort. The hotel has a coastal location. The welcome was very friendly and staff throughout the property were all helpful and kind. The hotel does look a little dated but remains comfortable and clean. My room was upgraded on arrival to a villa which had its own kitchen and living area. The bed was very comfortable. Tea and coffee were provided in the kitchen as well as a small amount of milk. Mosquitos were a slight problem although each room in the villa contained mosquito traps. An on-site supermarket can provide basic provisions. There was a small balcony with sun loungers. The hotel has a fantastic pool. A gym and spa are on site. Onsite breakfast was good value under 10 Euros and served in the poolside restaurant. Generally a good location for a quiet break or for those wanting to make use of the nearby golfing facilities.

We've been here many times our most recent being September last year. We actually visited in May too when the swimming pool was a building site as they were redesigning the whole pool area.
We normally stay in one of their very spacias 2 bedroom elite appartments which are also well equipped with everything that you need too!
The location is excellent with the sea being at the back of the resort with its beautiful coastal walks too! A 20 minute walk along the coast path takes you to a area called San Blas where you'll find shops, restuarants and bar's then if you carry on walking for another 20 minutes you'll come to a town called Los Abrigo's where you'll find lots of fish reastuants along its coastal path.
The new swimming pool is really nice as is the upgraded pool bar. There is also a roof top bar overlooking the sea.
The staff here and other Diamond Resorts that we visit are always very welcoming and friendly this includes the cleaners too!
We have only eaten at the restuarant here a couple of times but on both occassions we enjoyed our experience there. We prefer to eat out at the many restaurants in the area.
Can't wait to go back as soon as we're allowed to.

From checking in to checking out we loved everything about the Santa Barbara.
The staff, from the hotel manager to the cleaning teams are all so friendly, and make you feel very welcome. The animators work really hard to provide entertainment for all ages without being too much in your face, and the waiters/ waitresses in the restaurants are friendly and efficient. A major plus point for the Santa Barbara is the location, right next to the coastal path with its beautiful views, and close to the local bars and restaurants. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was spacious, well furnished and spotlessly clean, it really felt like a home from home. The prices in the bars and restaurants were very reasonable, and the food was of a good standard. The pool area is superb, and never felt overcrowded, there is even a small supermarket in house which has all of the essentials. I would not hesitate to recommend the Santa Barbara to anyone thinking about a stay in Tenerife, we will definitely be back.

We have holidayed in Golf del Sur for the past 12 years but stayed in a private villa which was unfortunately sold because of the pandemic. I did a bit of research and decided to stay at the Santa Barbara based on the excellent reviews I read, a personal recommendation and also because of the very attractive price.
Our flight was delayed by three hours and we arrived about midnight but our check-in was seamless and we were allocated a lovely one bedroom apartment with a sea view and double bed as requested. We had a double balcony which accommodated a table and chairs and also a sun lounger and which was bathed in sunshine from dawn till about 3pm. The whole apartment was spotlessly clean and there was every piece of crockery, glassware, cutlery and electrical items that we could conceivably need for our stay. We received ample clean towels and the room was cleaned and bedding changed on request - best to download the resort app which is the most convenient way to request these services.
The pool area was also lovely, it was very large with lots of nooks and crannies but sun loungers have to be pre-booked, either at reception or at the pool but the staff were very friendly and helpful and always managed to find us spaces. Beach towels are also available for a very reasonable 1 Euro a day or 4 Euros for the week. There was also a poolside snackbar which was also very convenient.
This was our first stay at the Santa Barbara but I'm sure it won't be our last as our room was spacious, excellently equipped and spotlessly clean and the staff we interacted with were always warm and friendly.

Stayed here for a week in December 2020, couldn't have been better. Snagged a super cheap deal for £163 for the week so came with low-ish expectations but this hotel went far above these expectations and compares well with other resorts I've stayed in in the past in Spain, Greece etc that were far more expensive.
Staff were all friendly and helpful, the room was modern and clean and had a beautiful view of the sea and pool area, and while the hotel itself is a little dated, it's very clean and well-maintained. Didn't try the restaurants on site, but the pool bar was good for drinks and to hang out in the sun. Pool was excellent and had a lifeguard at all times. The resort supermarket is a little expensive (as to be expected) but stocked a good range of essentials.
Location wise this hotel is in Golf Del Sur, an upmarket golfing community where there's a few bars and restaurants around catering to a largely tourist/expat market, however for more traditional Canarian cuisine Los Abrigos is close by and has a number of great seafood restaurants. I'd recommend hiring a car though as the bus service to Los Cristianos is limited and there isn't a huge amount to do in Golf Del Sur itself.
Overall, an amazing stay considering the price I paid. Would definitely come back.

Stayed at Santa Barbara during March to celebrate 44th anniversary, overall happy with hotel, had requested a sunny balcony unfortunately we were at the side of the hotel so only got some afternoon sun. First visit to golf del sur and found quite a few eateries etc had closed down because of the covid impact which was a shame, would consider visiting again in a few years when things hopefully pick up and would stay at this hotel again. Good wifi, air con, safe all included in room price. Rooms were clean and had everything you would need including microwave, toaster, fridge, dishwasher and detergent, filter coffee m/c tea towels, even pegs! Filtered drinking water tap in room however I prefer bottled water for drinking just my taste. TV got bbc, itv, CBeebies only thing missing was film channel, not sure if firestick would work maybe best to ask if staying in with children.
Resort suited us but can see why it’s more older couples that visit rather than families, not really anything for little ones.
Quite hilly when walking around but we managed (mid 60’s). When walking to san blas or visiting restaurants on sea front go through pool gate onto pathway, left for san blas right to restaurants. Our favourite breakfast place was St. Andrews bar cafe turn left out of reception walk to end of road/roundabout and turn right it was lovely sitting in the sun having breakfast with sea and marina view. They also have a small play area for toddlers.
No beach at the moment but think that’s probably what the ongoing works are.
We caught bus to los cristianos etc, short cut to bus stop turn left out of reception cross road and just before supermarket is dirt road/hill to bus stop, so just couple of minutes, think it was 483 that was direct about 35 minutes to cristianos bus station. I used Moovit app for times etc.

We first stayed here back in 2018 with our son and four years later we returned with our four year old daughter as well. If you ask me the hotel has only got better since the last time.
This time we were given a room on a lower floor with no view, we were here for our 17th anniversary so we asked if we could have a room with a sea view and we were lucky enough to be given room 813. It was such a lovely room with brilliant sea views. A huge thank you for the room change! The room had a water filter tap which makes a huge difference and saves having to buy lots of bottled water every day. Because of this we bought one of the lovely water bottles from reception and used this everyday. The room was also fully equipped with everything you need for a family of four and was so clean, in fact the whole hotel is spotlessly clean.
I loved the old circular pool so when I noticed they had changed the pool I was disappointed, but I shouldn't have of been. The new pool is brilliant, and much bigger! AND it's warmer!! I love it! Well done on the new pool!! You also have to book your sunbeds the day before, this is due to covid regulations, and to be honest I really hope this is something that the hotel decide to keep on after regulations stop as it takes the stress out of finding a sunbed by the pool. There are plenty of sunbeds as well so you can almost always get the ones you want. The kids pool was great, my two loved it, and again so warm! And the adult only spa pool was amazing! So relaxing, my kids hated not being able to come in which made me enjoy it even more haha!
The main restaurant was closed this time and hopefully it will be open soon as we loved it last time but the pool bar was open for food and drink. There are plenty restaurants and cafes near by on the seafront and a short walk away at the San Blas.
The animation team were great with the kids, and all the hotel staff are so friendly and will go out of their way to help you. We really cant wait to come back in February 2023. I miss it already!

I booked this trip for a friend's 50th for myself and 9 friends. I was looking forward to the trip and booked well in advance, booking three two bedroom apartments. All I asked for were rooms next to each other and sea views. Not really a huge request when booked so far in advance for a resort of this size.
When we got there we had one room on the same level as reception and 2 on floor 7. The ones on floor 7 were beautiful with the sea views requested. The one on same level as reception was dark and had just the view of a blue tin roof and surrounding buildings from the tiny terrace.
When I went to reception I was quite rudely told there were no other rooms as they are mainly time share apartments and people who had timeshare came first.
When I went back to the room I saw a broken plug socket. I sent the photo to my husband back home who is an electrician and he was shocked and said they should never have let the room with the socket like that as it was dangerous. So back to reception I went again!! We were advised to go back to reception the next morning to see if any apartments maybe available but there would be a 30euro charge! When we went back we told there were still none available. We even said we would downgrade to a one bedroom if it gave us a sea view and balcony.
To make matters worse our apartment
was a disabled apartment with wet room which meant every time we had a shower the whole bathroom floor was soaked for ages after.
For me all the issues completely ruined the start of a very short 3 night break. I am an independent travel agent and I wouldn't want to recommend or book this resort for any clients as I would hate them to experience what I went through.
It is a shame as the resort was spotless with beautiful grounds and a great pool with plenty of sunbeds and I would have loved to be able to recommend the place as somewhere I had been myself as an agent.
My whole party of 10 ladies did comment about rude reception and bar staff letting the place down and for me it was also the room.

Just had 3 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment at the Santa Barbara, could not get the last night on points so paid €200 for the last night. This was a different reservation so had to move everything out and wait for the new room, fair enough.
New room half the size of the other, old fashioned, meant to sleep 6, small table in balcony that sits 4 at a push, 4 cushions for 6 chairs, pigeon pooh all over the table. Switched the oven on and room filled with smoke as oven had not been cleaned properly. One bathroom for 6 people and the apartment looks nothing like the photographs.
Room very tired and not the standard expected from Diamond Resorts, no complaints when using points, however if paying cash for a room, beware as you will be very disappointed, total let down and certainly not worth the money paid out!!

We`ve been coming here for over 20 years. The resort is always immaculate, the staff always friendly and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The complete redesign of the pool is a triumph. The crystal clear salt water was just warm enough and the aqua classes as always were fun. There are lots more sun beds now. The poolside cafe is much better positioned and provided a range of delicious snacks and meals. Happy hour from 5 - 6pm in the Breeze Bar is a must do. It gets busy but the waiter can multi task and his service with a smile is worth a little wait. We dined in Melrose and although it was nice it was not outstanding. The on site supermarket stocks the essentials and there is a great new shop which sells beach ware, sunglasses, hats and souvenirs. A welcome addition to the resort. The resort is well positioned in a quiet area which is close to bars and restaurants with a short walk to a bus stop. Go to El Medano which is a charming local town where you can watch the wind surfers, or walk along the newly constructed sea front path to Los Abrigos where you can enjoy the freshest fish in the harbour front restaurants. Special thanks to manager Victor, Christina on reception and Sandra on Concierge for another great holiday.

Yes - very simple. By the main pool area a member of hotel staff operates out of a little office booth there. You go to them, ask how many beds you want and they will allocate ones that are free to you. This is the system until 3pm after which it’s a case of just helping yourself to any you see available.
Yes think so, I seem to recall there was an ashtray on the balcony table. Probably best to check with resort though if it is that important to you.
You can ask for the bed in the bedroom to be made as two singles just email them.
The bed settee in the living room is a double.
