The stay was very nice, the front desk staff were friendly, accommodating and Nicolas, the Director - very helpful and engaging. The hotel was a bit far from the centre of Cayenne, and by taxi, quite expensive, but I knew this beforehand. The restaurant was excellent. My room was fine. The price points were acceptable. The pool was on the small side, but nonetheless, it was a clean pool and very welcome after a long day of sight seeing. Aside from the hotel and property, when arriving by plane for example, from Belem at a very early hour, there were no taxis. This could have complicated things, but with perseverance and creativity, I did find a taxi driver who took me to the hotel. Taxis are very expensive in French Guyana. The very helpful hotel staff told me when going into Cayenne, if I wanted to avoid taking taxis, that I should exit their property and walk left along the highway for about 4 intersections (not big intersections) (less than 10 minutes walk) , and then just behind an identifiable City Hall, there was a bus stop where the bus went to the centre of Cayenne, where you could walk around - avoiding China town. It cost only 2 or 3 Euros each way. It is important to note - and as thankfully advised by the hotel staff, that if returning to the hotel by bus, to do so no later than 4, latest 5 in the afternoon. Why? Because the highway traffic gets heavier and as sunset approaches, the walk along certain segments could get tricky with oncoming traffic - (no grass, no gravel to walk on - only the highway itself). I took the bus both ways and had no problems. Just use common sense and intelligence. In all, a very enjoyable stay and the restaurant was excellent. Depending on the purpose of your trip, you might want to rent a car. For me, it didn't matter because I was on holiday. Thank you to all at La Marmotte.…
I recently stayed at La Marmotte and had a wonderful time! The pool was very nice, the room was comfortable, and there was a restaurant on the grounds with great food! The town of Matoury was a short walk from the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I recommend renting a car at the airport since taxis are expensive and public transportation (bus) is limited and unreliable. Car rentals are not that expensive (about 30 euro for an economy car). I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
I had the miss pleasure of having to stay in this hotel for one night every 28 days for 18 months. The accommodation is very basic, and falling apart. The various bathrooms I witnessed are in a particularly poor state. The food is bad and the surly staff worse. If you have a sense of humour and like the creature comforts of sleeping in a bivi this is the place for you! The hotel logo is a rat with a hat in a bed, very apt!
Over the last 15 months I have been sent to this hovel by my company. The place has not improved one iota since we have used it, and no investment has been made to it by it's management. My last room had no toilet seat, a lid yes, but no seat. The place is alive with mosquitoes, but then again this is to be expted in French Guiana. Just do not attempt to go to this place.
