The best hostel I’ve been in, in Laos. The hostel is very clean, smells lovely and the beds are actually very comfortable. Brilliant fanning and aircon for the night because it can get rather hot. And the lady at the front desk is more than helpful, she extended my stay by 4 nights as I was waiting to be granted my Vietnam visa; she couldn’t have been more helpful if she tried. She was excellent for places to go eat, their motorbike and bus service is also fantastic, not to mention…FREE ICECREAM! Who can argue with that!? Really had a fantastic stay here.

We loved our stay at Sanga Hostel. This is a clean, modern hostel with decent shared bathrooms on each floor. While the ground floor seating area is basically the restaurant/dining area, I still saw plenty of people socialising together. I also liked that they would donate any unwanted clothes to nearby villages. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful too. Would highly recommend

Let me premise this review by disclosing that I didn't stay at Sanga Hostel (I had chosen other accommodation in Pakse during my stay), but I utilized the touristic services of Sanga Hostel in full! My review will focus on the touristic services offered by the hostel, not the accommodation, since I did not stay there myself (however, in speaking with my fellow travellers who were staying at the hostel, they claimed this was THE ABSOLUTE BEST hostel in all of South East Asia, and judging by my interaction with the hostel, albeit limited, I would be inclined to agree)! Lao PDR, like most countries in the world, has really struggled over the last 3 years. The currency (Lao Kip) has deflated, dropping to a 15-year low and gasoline prices have risen exponentially. This has all culminated in a struggling tourism industry, one that can no longer market affordable tours. Tour prices and transportation have doubled if not tripled, making day trips out of Pakse unaffordable for most budget travellers. I did much research online and inquired with all of the tour agencies in town - the prices I was quoted for day trips to the Bolaven Plateau or Vat Phou were laughable. This brings me to Sanga Hostel - the only shining gem in the tourism game. I presented myself at Sanga Hostel in hopes of joining onto some day tours of Pakse, without breaking the bank. I reasoned that I could pair myself with other budget travellers, making exploring the Champasak region affordable. The manager at Sanga Hostel was welcoming, and very professional. She arranges every tour one can possibly imagine, at fair/market prices (the only player in the game able to currently do so). I was able to pair myself with other hostel guests to visit the lush waterfalls and coffee plantations within the Bolaven Plateau, and she also arranged for me to be paired with another traveller to have private transport (Tuk Tuk) to Vat Phou (a true highlight not to be missed)! Being paired with other travellers was mutually beneficial, since it saved on costs for everyone! The manager at Sang Hostel runs an extremely fair, and efficient touristic service out of the hostel, and I highly recommend that you go to see the manager to arrange your travel needs, whatever they may be. She will negotiate a fair price, and quality transport (comfortable mini van for group tours), and wonderful sightseeing itineraries! The group tour to Bolaven Plateau was surely enjoyed, and I received full value for what I paid. The manager was fully transparent in the costs and I was confident that I would be receiving the services I paid for (which is an ongoing problem in Lao and South East Asia more generally). We went to 4 waterfalls, 2-3 coffee plantations, and also a small village. The tour ran from about 8am to 6pm, so a full day of sightseeing! She also arranged for me private transport in Tuk Tuk to go to Vat Phou - the UNESCO site in the Champasak region - an attraction not to be missed! For me it was the highlight! She paired me with another traveller also wanting to go (and stay there), so I could save on costs, which was greatly appreciated! As part of my tour, she also arranged for the driver to stop at the base of Wat Phousalao, so I could climb to the hilltop to enjoy beautiful views of Pakse, the Mekong River and of course, the Big Buddha overlooking the city, and the garden of endless Buddhas just a few minutes walk further up the hill. The driver also made a stop for me at the supermarket on the way back, which was most appreciated. He spoke limited English, but he was a wonderful driver and guide, providing for an extremely terrific tour of Vat Phou and area! This tour was also a full day (9am to around 4pm or just after) and the driver was extremely patient in waiting for me at sites. I was also Abel to leave my small day pack in the Tuk Tuk while sightseeing, with absolutely zero concerns - the driver was trustworthy and dependable - making sure to take care of my belongings! If I had arranged transport on my own, there is little chance I would have received similar value/quality of services, so I am very appreciative of Sanga Hostel arranging my travel needs! The manager also encouraged me to take a few bananas for free on each of day trips, one of the many perks of staying at the hostel, so I always had healthy snacks to eat on my long day trips out of Pakse! If the hostel offered private rooms, without question, I would stay here! I am in my late thirties, however, and I deeply value my privacy and independence, so I am opting for budget or mid-range hotels now (in Pakse, I stayed at Sang Aroun Hotel, which I wrote a detailed review for). Sanga Hostel is exceptional! Thank you so much for making my travel/sightseeing aspirations a possibility within a fair budget! Otherwise, it likely would have not been possible! I highly recommend Sanga Hostel to my fellow travellers, if not to stay, then definitely to take advantage of the exceptional touristic services offered by the hostel! I can say, without doubt, that the exceptional rating online is reflective in the services offered on the ground.

This is by far the best hostel I have ever stayed in. They completely understand what travellers want and provide it all, with a smile and absolute wealth of information and help along with it. Super comfy, clean dorm beds with plenty of privacy, plugs shelves and towel hangers in the right place, good showers, great food, reliable WiFi and can’t do enough to help you plan onward travel, book bus tickets or sort scooter hire. Absolutely superb!! Dont even think about staying anywhere else in Pakse!

I wantes to stay for one night only but this place is so excellent I stayed for 3. The stuff is the most helpful I came across Asia - 24/7 willing to solve whatever problem or need you have. They have great prices on trips and rentals! You get tea, water and bananas for free there. They have great kitchen. The dorms are designed for eusropeans - meaning a lot of space (very high beds!), privacy and extremely clean. The beds are being made every day. You can have your towels changed everyday as well. Bathrooms are cleaner every few hours. Loved it!

easily the nicest hostel in laos! the rooms were super clean and the beds were just so lush. there's is a little resturant downstairs where you can order some amazing food (I recommend the fruit salad with muesli and yogurt + the yellow coconut curry 🤤) or you can just hang out. the staff were so so lovely and accommodating. there's a special place in my heart for luang, who is the manager there, she is the sweetest lady ever and was always ready to help us out any time of the day with whatever we needed and was also always down for a little chat. didn't want to leave pakse simply because i loved this place so much. can't recommend enough!

This hostel was everything you could ask for. It’s kept sparkling clean, they serve delicious food, the air con is kept lovely and cold, the beds are SO comfortable! They even have proper duvets which kept you so cosy in the night. And curtains over each bed for your own privacy. The showers were lovely, hot and cold to choose from. The lady on reception was so so helpful, helping us with the loop, providing us with a map and showing us which waterfalls were worth going to and which weren’t. She booked our bus to Thailand and helped us get a motorbike- all in very well spoken English. The best hostel I’ve ever stayed at!

Me and my boyfriend stayed here as we heard great reviews and sagna hostel really did exceed my already high expectations! The lady who owns the hostel is honestly the nicest person ever, she really went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and help us in any way possible. She even packed us a little takeaway bag for the bus to our next destination as we didn't have time to get breakfast in the morning. Every evening there's free freshly baked banana bread and watermelon. There is also free bananas and water to fill your bottle up. The hostel has large comfortable clean beds and even though we were in a dorm room the individual curtains gave us privacy. The showers are amazing with hot water and there is a nice restaurant downstairs with good food. All the staff are so so nice and friendly there. Would highly recommend this hostel for your stay in Pakse.

Good location, very clean hostel and new hostel. Big nice beds with power plugs. Had great sleep here. Serves cheap and good breakfast. But what really made this place the 10 that it deserves was the insane amount of extra care the lady from the reception gave. She was so helpful with everything, constantly wanting to make sure everything is alright, helping with side seeing and all silly questions. Also the free banana muffins and watermelon are superb! Booked transport with them was also good
