Ten fantastic days exploring Portsmouth and surrounding areas. Manicou River was a great location to do this from but the real winner for us was the free "million dollar" views from the bungalows. Every morning, every day, every evening and even in the middle of the night when the rain came down, the views just had to be taken in....

On the northwest coast of the island, Manicou River was a bit of a splurge (cottages are $220-$265/nt with a 3-night minimum), but for the last leg of our trip, we knew we wanted to treat ourselves. Like many Dominican destinations, arrival at Manicou is part of the adventure as you wind your way up the mountain to the steepest...

Nothing substantiates Dominica’s renown as “The Nature Island” better than the Manicou River boutique eco-lodge. We stayed there recently, our second visit, and enjoyed it just as much this time as last, which is to say enormously. The rooms are beautifully appointed in a natural way, consistent with the tree-house-like feel of the place. Though open to the outdoors, the...

While in Dominica, we chose to stay at a total of four different locations while we explored the country and got to know the people. Manicou River was undoubtedly our favorite of the accommodations. The area is beautiful and convenient. We found Kate, Patrick and the small staff to be exceedingly kind and helpful. Kate went the extra mile to...

We loved our stay at Manicou River!! Kate and the staff go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need and enjoy the island to the fullest. We've been gone for less than a week and already wish we were back! Can't wait to visit again soon!

We spent 4 nights here and only wish it could have been more! Kate and Patrick and their well trained staff run a place that is just pure perfection - beautiful tree-house style "cottages", very luxurious, and yet totally off the grid. Beautiful views are only a small part of the charm. You feel one with nature and wish you...

Just back-- Jan 26-Feb 3 2017: Can't say enough great things about Manicou. We arrived in the dark of night after a long plane ride. Kate, the ever cheerful owner, greeted us as if we were old friends as she showed us to our cottage. We were seduced by the views we saw online, but we'd have to wait until...

Manicou River is up a steep incline above Portsmouth. It's 400 foot-high coastal location creates breathtaking views of Douglas Bay. The simple but well-appointed, treehouse-style, open air cottages are made out of local materials and blend effortlessly into their local surroundings. The cottages have kitchen areas for self-catering or you can opt for the homemade breakfast and dinners. The lovingly...

Kate and Patrick have created an exceptional place, an oasis to relax in the middle of the woods with half-open, high-quality lodges, excellent breakfasts and dinners, and at the same time the opportunity to be close to nature. We loved the birds, bats, and lizards who visited us (and the fact the mosquitoes didn't) and the superb view. Kate is...

If you like the Caribbean, nature, wonderful hosts and epic views this is the place! The room is completely open on one side overlooking the sea. The bed is extraordinarily comfortable and the nature is right there with you including birds and lizards who may come to visit. The open nature of the room means you will sleep to the...
