Sicily is too big to visit from a single central point - you'd spend your whole time driving, and while the motorways and major roads are very good, the mountain roads are tortuous and some are poorly-maintained. The SW of Sicily has some magnificent ancient Greek temples, as well as some beautiful coastline, dramatic mountain scenery and some interesting towns....

This hotel is a converted winery. Our bedroom overlooked an inner courtyard and was situated over the dining room, but was very quiet. There was a huge walk-in shower which was impressive, but unfortunately was not good at draining the water away. The beds were extremely hard, but ok once you were used to them. I thought the food was...

We stayed in this hotel for thee days as part of a Saga island tour. The hotel is located on the main promenade (Lungomare Mazzini) about 10 minutes stroll from the town centre. The beach is directly opposite the hotel but unfortunately large stretches are strewn with rubbish and broken pipes. Our bedroom incorporated a generous balcony which overlooked an...

Stayed at the Mahara Hotel late June, had a great room overlooking the mediterrean sea. Very comfortable, clean with Airco and TV. Very courteous staff, first class restaurant serving sicilian specialties. Spaghetti with bottarga were a special delight. Only 2-3 hours away by car from Agrigento and Selinunte, where you can see the oldest Greek temples built on the Sicilian...

Stayed here for thee days as part of a Saga tour. Excellent location by the beach and just a short stroll along the promenade into the centre of town. Bedroom & bathroom ok - clean with airconditioning but my wife and I who normally like a fairly firm bed found the ones here rather over firm. Breakfast was fine but...

Selected via Amber Tours for our group, excellent facility with all the perks, modern-clean-sea views, nicely furnished, very good service, breakfasts extensive. Would reserve for month the next time around. Rates are reasonable.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this excellent hotel. Clean and perfectly airconditioned rooms. Large and clean swimming pool. Friendly and helpful personnel. Tasteful and balanced cuisine, fresh food with choice between fish, meat or vegetarian dishes. Special thanks to the sommelier Edmond for his detailed advice on Sicilian wines and regional travel suggestions. I would advice this hotel...

Great location, easy walk along the boardwalk with shops close by and several restaurants to choose from. Short drive to Selinunte to visit the archeological park with ancient temple ruins and great beach. Good for snorkeling.

Stayed at the Mahara in early July very clean and well maintained. We had a lovely room with balcony that over looked the garden and was a real little suntrap, so lovely at the end of the day to sit an unwind before going out for dinner. We were there just before school holidays started so was very quiet which...
