Late October and beautiful autumn colours in Engadine. The room was nice and the bed very comfortable. We enjoyed a good dinner in the hotel restaurant. The town of Bever is interesting with nicely restored very old houses.

My husband, two kids (11 and 12) and I just spent several days here and loved it. It is a beautiful, romantic old building with a pretty garden (for lounging or eating) located in the small town of Bever. Breakfast is included and is plentiful and delicious (we liked the soft boiled eggs in particular.) We also ate dinner here... More

Charming 17th building - on the outside, dated on the inside, especially 1960's bathroom. Part of Swiss Historic Hotel group. Major road construction work just around the corner causing entire building to vibrate - not seen upon arrival. Unacceptable even with windows closed. Source from just around the corner. Manager issued no warning. 247CH price for the night. Busy road... More

Great hotel, location, owners, service and food. We attended a family reunion here and booked most of the hotel for a few nights. All rooms are basic but nice and clean. Building is old so if you have noisy neighbors you may hear some of it but overall pretty quiet. We had one of the family rooms (think jr. suite)... More

We were several times at the Chesa Salis and everytime it was a great experience. Very friendly and efficient staff, exquisite cuisine and wines in a very nice Setting. The rooms are adorable and one feels really at home. One actually doesn't want to leave this romantic place.

The hotel is actually a B&B in a very old beautiful building. The owners are super nice and friendly. They had awesome breakfast and dinner. We were so impressed with the attention to detail. They had chicken shaped cozies for the hard boiled eggs. Get the room with the glass covered porch and a view of the garden.

We arrived in the pouring rain, soaking wet from our long distance hike and were treated warmly by the receptionist who made us feel very welcome. She took us up to a wonderful room full of charm. A beautifully restored building, with great hotel rooms, a beautiful dining room, and a wonderful outside area for an afternoon drink or al fresco meal. Swiss hotels are no longer famous for their excellency - even the Swiss prefer to stay in Austrian hotels for their winter vacations, simply because the service and the standard in Swiss hotels (except for the most upscale ones) is usually shoddy. So Chesa Salis seemed to be the big exception - beautifully situated, in a grand old typical Engadin... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Chesa Salis'Worth a whole roll of film' trumpeted the report on this house that dates back to the 16thC but was embellished by the patrician Salis family who bought it in 1870. 'It's old, it's not practical but we love it,' says Jurg Degiacomi, the owner of the house since 1982 together with his wife. The restaurant has a fine reputation with menus include local as well as classic French and Italian dishes. 'We are away from the village, we don't have a swimming-pool, so we spoil our guests with good food.' The carved front door remains, matched by an elaborate wrought-iron gate. Off to one side is a small room for private parties that is 'like a doll's house, completely wood-panelled, with book-shelves, an escritoire and tiny windows'. The noble heritage of the building is witnessed today by its meter-thick walls, handsome craftsmanship, beautiful wood paneling, outstanding paintings, handsome beamed ceilings, intricate plaster etching on the exterior walls, frescoed ceilings, and colorful ceramic fireplaces. When you enter the reception area, there is an eclectic mix of old and new with handsome antiques blending with black leather sofas, and a contemporary glass counter highlighted by a modern painting. In contrast, most of the furnishings are definitely traditional in style. All of the guestrooms are lovely. Room 26 is a particularly spacious, beautiful room with large windows looking out to the garden. The most stunning room of all, #35, is tucked up under the eaves. Its white-washed paneled walls and low ceiling are exquisitely painted with antique, floral designs - like a music box. 'If only grandma's house had looked like this' was our reporter's final comment. ... more   less
