As weary travellers we arrived late Saturday night, having had car trouble! We didn't stop at a supermarket on route, as planned, in case the car wouldn't start again! We dumped our bags in the cottage and walked along the high street to the hotel for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. We were too late for...

We stayed a night and found the hotel warm and inviting. Yes it could do with some refurbishment and the beds were tired. Hosts great and staff friendly. Ask for a room with a view for the best night.

We stayed here back in April for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. Well all I have to say is that we found a true gem. This is a family run hotel and they sure know how to make you feel just at home. We stayed for 2 nights rooms were comfortable and food was very nice, mind you beware of the...

The Richmond Arms I read a couple of conflicting reviews of this hotel so open minded. I enjoyed my stay, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was good, the bar was busy and sociable, the room (17) was clean but the mattress and/or the beds need to be replaced, a bit uncomfortable and one of the beds is...

The room was at the top of the hotel, 39 steps up to be exact. "There is a fantastic view" we were told. The room was clean and the bed huge and comfortable. Only one side had a reading light. The view was obstructed by a diagonal crack in the sash window which was held together by sellotape. The window...

This is an old, historical building, situated and the heart of (small) Tomintoul. The rooms are clean and comfortable and nice view from the room. Internet connection worked good even in the room on the top floor.

No lift in the hotel and stayed in a room on the top floor (3rd).The hotel is in desperate need of a total upgrade. Nothing looks like it has been touched decoratively for years. Carpets & chairs were worn, no curtain in bathroom, sash window in room didn't close properly. Bed base had stain on it! No loft trap cover...

We stayed at the Richmond Arms as part of a horseback riding tour of Scotland. We had a wonderful time at this hotel. The rooms were very clean and the staff was as friendly as all of Scotland seems to be. I loved my time in Tomintoul and I look forward to visiting there again. And when I do, I...

This hotel is set in a beautiful location in the Highlands. Martin (the owner) and his family are the friendliest people you'll find. The hotel is 'Olde Worlde' and maximises its strengths. The food is fabulous, the bar is well stocked with real ales and a huge selection of scotch whisky, about which the staff have an excellent knowledge. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Originally built as a fishing lodge in 1898, the Richmond Arms has had a long history, but has remained a firm favorite of the fishing enthusiast. The Hotel has been empty for the last 3 years, but is now under new management and is a family run business. Due to neglect by previous owners, it has taken 6 months of hard work to get it back open again, and to meet current fire and safety legislation. We offer bed and breakfast for residence, along with bar meals in the evening, which can be eaten in the bars, or the dining room. We can cater for children from birth upwards, and have a number of family rooms. Pets are more than welcome to stay.We have specially designed rooms for the disabled or the elderly.By the end of the year we hope to have attained our Visit Scotland 3 star rating.Tomintoul is the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland, and is situated close to the Lecht Ski centre, and is on both the whisky and castle trails in this part of Scotland. With the opening of the new mountain bike trails in the area, we will be providing secure storage facilities for bikes. ... more   less
