We spent a week in this hotel at the beginning of June and enjoyed every minute. The building is full of history, it is like stepping back into Edwardian times. There are lovely public rooms full of comfy chairs and masses of art books to look at relating to the school of artists living here in the early 1900's. We had a large sea view room with a lovely bathroom and everywhere was spotless. The staff take pride in their hotel and it shows in the care taken all through the building and the grounds. We enjoyed sitting on the little balcony platform overlooking the harbour and watching the boats each morning. The season was just beginning, so the beaches were getting ready for the summer visitors - we spent a few days on Bagna Roma - very good lunches! All the staff were very helpful, friendly and professional - we would love to stay here again and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you.

Places like this are disappearing fast. We all want massive TV screens and enormous beads with twenty bloated pillows on them. This is a gem, it's like being in a 50s movie. It's what it doesn't have that makes it beautiful. The building, the setting and gardens are superb. It's not billionaire 5 star place, it's simple, charming and very nice.

We chose the hotel because it is only 30 minutes from Pisa airport. Checking in was easy and welcoming, and we were given advice on local restaurants. After a quick change in our lovely spacious room, we headed to the outside terrace bar for a glass of wine overlooking the sea. Then we followed the advice about a local restaurant, where we had an excellent meal and got a discount as we were hotel guests at the Miramare. Breakfast was adequate, and the breakfast room had stunning views. We would definitely choose this hotel again.

We were looking for an overnight place to stay on the Mediterranean, available by train, and not too far from Florence. This was recommended by friends and it was perfect. Our room overlooked the sea, and we loved the old cozy, rambling feel of the building. But age is not a minus here...it is well cared for. There is a great deal of history here, having hosted Winston Churchill after the war. The staff was helpful and welcoming. The grounds are lovely. It is a short walk from the train station through a beautiful pinetum. It is the kind of hotel we would return to again and again, given the chance.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view of the sea, but the view from all sides will be pretty, as it is...

We have just returned from our third visit to this lovely hotel, having stayed there a week each time whilst attending an Italian course in Castiglioncello. We love its quiet elegance with Art nouveau decor. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere relaxed and informal. Our room and bathroom were comfortable, spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was more extensive than most that we have experienced in Italy. The hotel isn´t super-modern, but that´s part of its charm. Information about its history and old newspaper cuttings etc displayed on the walls provide fascinating reading. There are plenty of seats in the shady garden where you can read and enjoy the view of the bay and in the evening there is a terrace bar overlooking the bay for a quiet drink. The hotel is just a few minutes´ walk away from many bars and restaurants. The train station with connections to Firenze, Pisa and Lucca is also just a short walk away. For me the only negative is that the beach/waterfront directly in front of the hotel are private, of course no fault of the hotel. We didn´t really work out how the system of paying for a spot by the water works, but there are alternatives anyway.
