My husband and I spent an incredible four days here at Monaci, a totally spellbinding and soulful place. The bountiful plates of delicious food - all fresh organic, local produce meant that every meal was a real treat, the staff so friendly - especially the lovely Alberto who kept us entertained for hours at the bar with all his worldly...

We arrived by hire car from Catania in about one hour and it is essential to have Satnav to negotiate the suburbs and get up to Zaffarena. The hotel is clearly sign posted from the junction of the main road through the small town. The entrance gates are on a steep slope so make sure you can do a hill...

We visited Monaci Della Terre Nere in July. The property is a bit difficult to navigate to and a bit scary to initially drive around. But you get used to the roads quickly The hotel's main grounds are beautiful -- original villa house and pool grounds sit gorgeously over a beautiful vista. Our room was a bit off then main...

Dear Mr Omar, thank you for taking the time to write a review on Tripadvisor about your stay at Monaci delle Terre Nere. We really appreciate your kind words about the property, the main villa and the pool, the rooms and the view; yet we regret reading your disappointment about the cooking class. Unfortunately, on that day, the chef was...

How best to describe our stay here? It was a bit like staying with good friends for the weekend. You might have to put up with the less-then-comfortable spare room but the overall experience was such fun that you enjoyed every minute. We loved our three nights here but it certainly wasn’t because of the room. This is the epitome...

Elegance in the countryside. Restaurant view is beautiful, considering the highest quality of ingredients and the amount of hours needed for the chefs: they have 7 people in the kitchen to make homemade pastas, breads, ice-cream, olive oil, etc.....it is certainly the best deal for the highest quality of food in Sicily...compared to other restaurants we ate in Sicily of...

We spent two weeks in Sicily and the last few days we opted for some days on the slopes of Mount Etna. The stay at Monaci delle Terre Nere was memorable, although we encountered some rainy days, it was the perfect place to explore the area. There are a number of great wineries in about one hour drive range on...

The place and the setting is beautiful, and the villas and the hotel grounds have clean designs with a good taste. The biggest problem with us were bugs, and lots of them, in our villa, every day. I get that it is sitting in a biological farm, but still, I did not expect to deal with so many bugs in...

We arrived in Catania airport and found our car rental with no problem. GPS meant we arrived at the hotel in about 30 mins. Watch out for the signs for the hotel. We received a nice welcome at the hotel, and our cases were taken from our car to the room. We stayed in room 6. We ate lunch by...

Wow! What an amazing place to stay!! It's an historical villa which is converted into a luxurious hotel. All rooms are suites, decorated with beautiful rare art. The views are amazing, you can see the see, and spectacular view of Mount Etna. All food and a lot of the wines are biological. At breakfast, which is included you will find...

Gorgeous setting, truly remote and quiet. The hotel is on 50 hectares, has its own garden, orchard, beautiful main house. I agree with previous reviews, the price is rather high despite the overall quality. Beautifully designed rooms. Yet, for 350€, one should not have too look at a wall. Rooms without a view should be less expensive. Recommendations for the...

Dear Guest, thank you for your kind words about the property, its setting and the design of the rooms. All our rooms are completely different from each other in terms of view and style. The room we assigned you has an outdoor patio and overlooks the garden; we are sorry if it did not meet your personal taste. Our check-in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 2007, by chance, I stumbled upon this place, fell in love with it and decided to devote my life to its resurrection. To bring this place, previously chosen by the monks of Saint Anna’s order for his special energy and extraordinary charm, back to life. It has become the second great project of my life. The estate Monaci delle Terre Nere is situated along the slopes of Mount Etna, the biggest volcano in Europe on the border of the Etna National Park at 500mt above sea level. My wish has been to preserve the historic identity and local traditions, more than a Boutique Hotel it is a home which I hope retains its intimacy. The house which dates from 1800 is listed as one of historical importance. It is now a place where traditional Sicilian Architecture is combined with contemporary art and living. ... more   less
