#1 of 10 Speciality lodging in Tirano
Travellers' Choice
An old farmhouse in the historical center of Tirano restored to become the first "charming hostel" of Italy. Pleasant location for a relaxing or active holiday in the Alps, in the town where the famous Bernina Express , UNESCO heritage, starts its tour to St. Moritz. Tirano is also strategic to reach many ski areas (Bormio , Livigno, Tonale, Engadine / St. Moritz, Aprica...). In summer you can hike (Via Alpina, Via Valtellina, Sentiero Italia...) or ride the most famous climbs of the "Giro d'Italia" (Gavia, Stelvio, Mortirolo, Bernina and others). Bike park and the trails of the Transalp race are really close. Culture and flavors of Valtellina with the amazing terraced vineyards are other elements of great charm. The hostel has got 8 rooms, all with private bathroom and wifi-free access. We wait for you! Alessia, Andrea and Samuele

I booked to stay here long before my arrival and the totally brilliant host Andrea kept me informed throughout about any info needed re covid etc. Upon arrival I was warmly welcomed and made to feel at ease with a little tour of the property and provided with all info needed for my 8 night stay. My room was very large , had a lovely balcony and bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable and the whole place spotlessly clean. The breakfast was of good quality in a very relaxed atmosphere. There is a garden patio area with magnificent views. I can't praise Andrea enough as he was always at hand and we enjoyed many conversations. I would not hesitate to return and highly recommend a stay here.

Ciao Sandra, our "story" has been long and not so easy... you tried many times to come here (I don't know why ;))) ) but covid was against us... at the end we met and was really nice to know you and have you here and quickly you have been part of the Ostello... was nice to meet after your train tours and deal about the walks, the people you met "on the trails"... you felt like at home, and that's what I really like of this place! So... see you next time and many thanks for your kind words. Un saluto dai monti. Andrea

L’Ostello del Costello is a charming B&B close to the heart of the old town of Tirano. We spent two nights there so we could take the famed Bernina Express from its start in Tirano up to Chur in Switzerland and then return on the local train back the same day to Tirano. A tiring trip but the views of the high alpine mountains and deep valleys were exceptional. We did not expect to find that Tirano was such a lovely town with good restaurants and beautiful views. It was a great place to decompress before returning home to the USA The Ostello was built on the foundations of the 15th century city walls and appears to have been formed from several very old houses. It has just been completely renovated and updated. Thank God it had an elevator as it is on several levels with lots of terraces with good views. It is exceptionally clean with comfy rooms. Nice breakfast was offered and wine in the evening is available. It is owned and lovingly managed by Andrea who is a delightful host. He is the main selling point her. He speaks English fluently and is eager to share the stories of the history of Tirano and is very helpful in recommending great restaurants and bars and with info on the options for the Bernina Express. He was also a Godsend in helping us arrange a pre flight returning COVID test at a nearby pharmacy so we could have that in hand before we got to the airport. That took off a huge amount of worrying about getting the required Covid test 72 before departure without the stress of trying to do it at the Milan Airport the morning before we flew out. Andrea worked hard to make our stay in Tirano as wonderful as possible. I can’t recommend him and his lovely B&B highly enough!

Ciao Roberto,it's so nice to read soooo nice words from our guests... or better friends that decide to spend some time in Tirano at the Ostello. I really enjoyed the time with you and all the "J-Team"! I believe that this place have something strange or magic that "take to me" always really kind guests, and it happened also with you, it was nice to be "taken" in your artistic word, flying with mind in the States and on the stage with your stories... nice to hear a "Pavarotti Style" song in the court... so, you were happy... me too and honored to have you here. Ciao Roberto e grazie mille. Un saluto dai monti. Andrea

Andrea is an exceptional host and his family hotel is a little hidden gem in Lombardy. Very neat and tidy. The house is over 400 years old but fully restored. I would recommend it to anybody. Also Tirana is an nice little town with many nice restaurants. Well worth a stay over.

The friendly owner has a stunning property with great character in a terrific corner of town. Very atmospheric. The owner took time to give us a tour of the property and suggest sights and restaurants to visit. The whole property is maintained in perfect detail. Truly very impressive indeed

On our way from innsbruck to Nice we stayed 1 night in Tirano and with the help of TripAdvisor we found this gem. Perhaps not the best view with a block in front of us, but the rest was perfect. -Owner who with passion told us of the very interesting story of the house. -Clean, nice, cosy and large enough bedroom, with bath, for 2. -Good breakfast -Fantastic atmosphere. -Good parking facility. -2 min walk to the old town of Tirano -euro 80 for the night and all this on a wet and dark autumn afternoon/evening.
