I thought the building site of a new light railway station in front of the hotel was going to ruin our stay. But it didn't. The Pousada is very much the history of Macau and its archway entrance, and rounded fortifications all evoked centuries of history. Still the rooms were comfortable, the beds great and the bathrooms spacious. I want...

We booked the whole of this amazing historic hotel for a birthday celebration. The staff are so helpful and all the arrangements were just perfect. Our guests were amazed by the hotel's history and its marvellous combination of traditional furnishings in the rooms (the floors are even made of leather!) and technology (B&O televisions and even a steam shower). The...

I'll start with the good aspects - big rooms with steam rooms and a jacuzzi. Nice gardens and nice pool. Nice breakfast. Lovely wine on the terrace with an elegant waiter wearing a tuxedo. My concern comes from an issue around check out. My husband asked if we could arrange a late check out and was firmly told NO -...

I am a local resident and not a tourist; yet I don't recommend tourists to consider spending money buying such poor service from this hotel, although the hotel itself is indeed beautiful. Or, you don't expect any quality service! The staff are unprofessional and impolite - especially the reservation/front desk manager. The rude attitude and poor customer service had given...

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend and we were very disappointed. I have stayed here 15 years ago and can only say it lost its charge and now it's just a run down poorly managed and overpriced shadow of its former self. The suites are large but run down. Essentials such as a coffee machine are missing....

I have stayed here many years ago and remembered this hotel as a picturesque romantic icon of Macau. Sadly my memories betrayed me or the time has taken its toll not just on the interior but also the service. From the moment you check in you are experiencing the barely English comprehending unfriendly service level that seems more fit to...

This was a return trip for us -- our third stay at Pousada De Sao Tiago. Away from the craziness of the casinos, walkable to A-Ma temple. Still the old world charm, the stone steps entering with the cascading water and a very welcome cooling effect from the extremely warm outside! No elevators -- that would detract from the old...

Macao is not a great place for hotels. The big brand names (e.g. Mandarin Oriental) tend to be very bland, if highly professional. And lesser hotels are generally unsatisfactory. This Pousada, built into the Portuguese ramparts and very centrally located (on the water), offers lovely walks, both to the center of town but also along the shore, notably towards a...

Europe is littered with creaky hotels built into ancient monuments; they are rather more rare on the China Coast, which is why Macau aficionados owe it to themselves to stay at the São Tiago at least once. Or maybe just the once. Built into the remains of the 400-year-old Barra Fort, it is the most European hotel we have come...

Being a hotelier it is sad to write such a review and hopefully someone will read this and try to improve things. Went here for dinner with 6 people and food was awful! Nothing Spanish about the food and everything was swimming in some sort of sauce. You would think with the price you pay you will at least get...

“My suite was on the 3rd floor up from the main floor, which meant effectively 4 or 5 floors from ground level. That was fine with me, but the place has no lift so it can be a bit of a slog up and down stairs. If that worries you, as for a suite on a lower floor.”
