After a friendly local guided us to the driveway entrance to la China, we had still quite a drive on unpaved roads through hillside woods and farmlands. Upon arrival we discovered that there are three buildings of three rooms each. Think of summer camp with a fireplace in the room. The fourth building is the office and home of Simona, our hostess. The bed in our room was in a loft, that seemed a bit shaky, and certainly very creaky. However, the fireplace made it cozy, and the view was lovely. We discovered that the "closing party" had been the night before, and the chef, Simona's sister, wasn't there. But regardless, she put together a nice meal of a boar stew, marinated artichokes, a vegetable platter, typical antipasto, and an excellent cake for dessert; we shared dinner with Simona and her friend Elena. A pleasant evening. Breakfast was delivered to our room the evening before, to be prepared by us in the kitchenette. Different,... but okay. The accommodations were unexpected, but kind of fun, especially since we were the only people there. This would be a fun place to visit with a group of friends.... sort of a "camp out".…
We had heard of this place from some friend who been there last year and recommended it and said it was the best food they had on their trip. We had also an absolute fantastic experience at this agriturismo! Luciana, Valentina and Simona did everything to make us feel comfortable and the succeed indeed! Big beautiful room that are more like an apartment with proper good breakfast with yoghurt, egg, bread and sweets. Don't miss to eat their wonderful dinner, it was the best two dinners we had on our hole 3 week holiday around hole of Sardinia. We hope to come back someday!
My husband and I stayed for two nights on the off season. It was phenomenal and we both wish we could have stayed longer. The ladies who run the agriturismo were marvelous. I can't say enough good things about them... or their cooking! The rooms are much more than rooms. They are like small apartments with gorgeous views. There are small kitchens with dishes, pots, pans, etc. They brought us trays of food every afternoon for our breakfast so we could eat privately and on our own schedule. Dinner was more than reasonably priced and the food was delicious. I hope we get the chance to return here one day! If you go, and you should, email them for specific directions and make sure you have a gps and/or good map. It's worth the drive!
Just had a great week at La China. The accommodation was very good - a large living area with offset kitchenette and a mezzanine sleeping area accessed by a sheepish flight of stairs. Smashing large shaded terrace too. The welcome we received from Simone and her family was second to none. We felt 'at home' immediately. We had dinner the first night- and it was so good we 'dined in' every night! The quality, quantity and service was simply exceptional. If you want to experience authentic Sardinian cooking in a wonderful setting being looked-after by a lovely family then get yourself there! We are already looking forward to our return.
This is a very unique place in the wilderness of Gallura, the macchia, with its amazing biodiversity. Simona is the kindest host, and the entire staff is excellent. Food is simply delicious! I highly recommend it!
