Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Iberostar Waves Bouganville Playa stands out for its prime location close to the beach and local hotspots, though some guests find it on the noisier side. Its cleanliness is a highlight, with travelers commending the pristine conditions and dedicated staff.
While opinions on value are mixed, with some concerns over additional costs, the amenity offerings, including diverse pools and family-friendly activities, are often celebrated. Guests enjoy the hotel's vibrant atmosphere and evening entertainment, but some feel the rooms could benefit from modernization and improved air conditioning.

Hotel's Favourite
Family of 7 (6 adults and 1 toddler) one week all inclusive.
Check in/ Reception:
Upon arrival we were offered 2 glasses of cava each with the choice of normal or rose cava. This was a nice touch and much needed after a long day of travelling. Check in took a little longer than expected but we didn’t mind as we were just happy to be there. We were asked to pick an allocated time slot for our breakfast, lunch and dinner. We didn’t mind this as we would rather be guaranteed a table than the restaurant being overwhelmed with guests. Safety box is charged at around €3 per day, which is a bit silly as is usually included in the hotel room rate in other hotels.
Rooms:
We were allocated rooms on the first floor, all next to each other which was perfect for our party. Rooms are spacious, comfy beds (although only one pillow each, however we called reception and they gave us more). Bathroom is big, with powerful shower and shampoo, body wash and body lotion included. Rooms are cleaned daily, with towels replaced. Bedding is not changed unless you request for it to be. We all had sea view balcony’s (paid extra) which were lovely. Table and chairs on the balcony, with drying rack for bikinis/ towels etc.
We hired an iron with a deposit of €20 which we got back at the end of our holiday. Hairdryers are included with the room and just a standard hotel hairdryer but does the job.
Unfortunately on two of the nights (Friday and Saturday) we were kept awake by extremely loud music from a bar across the road until 2am. Whilst not the hotels fault, some sound proofing would be beneficial or at least some warning.
Air con worked perfectly. Not noisy either.
Pool areas:
Have to reserve sun beds by 7:30am if you want a decent spot. However, the hotel keeps a stack of sun beds by the pool for those who come later (no later than 10). Sun beds are all hosed down during the evenings.
Pools are large, however due to the number of guests they are very busy. On the first few days lilos were allowed in the pools but the hotel then told guests they were no longer allowed due to the size of them. Many people were upset by this new rule, although it is understandable why the hotel made this decision.
One of the pools does not open until 10am which seems a bit late.
Lifeguards are often on their phones, which doesn’t seem very safe. The lifeguards also give out the pools towels to guests which distracts them from guarding the pools and again is unsafe.
The two adult water slides were great fun, and never any queues to go on them. There is a life guard who tells you when you can go down so is very safe.
The kids water slides were great, my nephew had so much fun on them.
Buffet restaurant:
At lunch time drinks are self serve. Bottled rose and white wine is kept in the fridge for you to help yourself to and red kept on the side. Draught beer is available as well as soft drinks. During dinner time drinks are served to you. Cocktails are not served in the restaurant.
Food is delicious and plenty of choice, we were very impressed. The pizza is the best pizza I’ve ever tasted (served daily). Fresh meat and fish cooked for you. Fresh salad bar which was delicious. Most evenings there was a theme, the Mexican and sushi nights were the best. Always something different on offer. Desserts were delicious and again lots of options to chose from.
On one occasion a young child was sick near the desserts , whilst the team cleaned it up promptly from the floor the plates and desserts (in close proximity to the sick) was not replaced. The child then continued to walk around the restaurant when the family should’ve probably been told to go to their room or elsewhere as the child was clearly unwell.
All waiters were extremely friendly and very interactive with young children which was sweet.
We did not see any cockroaches or other bugs in the restaurant as mentioned in other reviews.
Pool bar:
Very friendly staff , self serve beer, water and soft drinks. Cava available at the pool bar which was nice. 7 cocktails included in the all inclusive. 2 slushes available which you could ask to add alcohol to. 2 ice creams and 1 ice lolly available, the rest you have to pay for. Pastries available at the pool bar. Quick service during the day, often queues during the evening but don’t take too long.
BBQ snack bar:
Available daily 11:00-18:00. Selection of pizza. Salads, baked beans, hash browns, bacon, sausages and desserts. Great for a quick snack. Self serve beer, wine and soft drinks.
Lobby bar:
Great service, we always had a drink here prior to going to dinner. They have a big screen which shows sports on and many people enjoyed the formula 1 or football. There was a pool table in the lobby which is a nice touch.
Live music in the evening in the lobby bar which was very relaxing.
Games room:
Basically an arcade, most rides/ games €1. 2 pool tables inside too. The room is not air conditioned so is very hot during the day and evenings.
Entertainment:
Kids mini disco every evening at 20:30. The entertainment team were great with the kids and got everyone involved. From 21:30 there was adult entertainment such as live music, acrobat shows, 80s disco etc. Very fun and great to get involved in.
Very limited tables and chairs during the evening. Most guests had to sit on sun beds which isn’t very practical. The hotel could definitely invest in some more tables and chairs to make guests experience much nicer whilst watching evening entertainment.
Daytime entertainment included; bingo, darts, yoga, aqua aerobics , water polo, artery. Entertainers asked people to get involved but were not pushy if you say no.
Wifi:
Wifi is free throughout the hotel and very good. Works in the rooms and outside near the pools.
Lifts:
Lifts are a real issue in this hotel. Only 4 lifts for the whole hotel. Often wait times of 10+ minutes. Fortunately we were on the first floor so it was not so bad for us. However, when we had the buggy it could be a real pain and often we would just carry the buggy down the stairs as it was much easier and quicker.
All inclusive drinks:
Cocktails include; mojito, tequila sunrise, sex on the beach, pina colada, daiquiri (frozen), caribe, Iberostar own cocktail. Will attach a photo of the menu.
Soft drinks: Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite (sugar free), Fanta Lemon and Orange (sugar free) , Lemon ice tea, sparkling and normal water.
Branded drinks including : Baileys, Gordon’s gin, Jack Daniels, Smirnoff vodka, Malibu and many more.
Bar staff make you whatever drink you ask for.
Check out:
A few days before we were due to leave we asked to extend one of our rooms as check out is 11 and we weren’t leaving until 15:30 so wanted somewhere to shower. Were told the rooms are fully booked so unable to extend our room but we could shower in a courtesy room which we were fine with. Left our luggage in their luggage room and once ready we asked if we could have the key to the courtesy room to shower before leaving. We had booked two courtesy rooms and only received one at first, which was our original room we had been staying in. When we got there a man was tiling in the bathroom so we had to wait for him to leave before we could go in. The second courtesy room (which was one of the rooms we had been staying in also) was still being used by other guests , so again we had to wait for them to be out and we were only given 30 minutes to use the rooms. Was very unorganised and seemed pointless that we had to check out of the rooms , for them to be cleaned only for us to return a couple of hours later and reuse the rooms for them to have to clean them again.
Location:
Lots of shops near the hotel, lots of restaurants and bars too. 5 minute walk to the beach. 15 minute walk to siam park.
Overall this hotel was excellent. We had the best time and it exceeded our expectations. I would definitely return to this hotel.
Also, want to say a massive thank you to Francisco in the buffet restaurant who was so polite, friendly and helpful. He always made sure to interact with my nephew who was very fond of him. Francisco is an amazing asset to Iberostar Bougainville Playa and we were very sad to not see him on the last day of our holiday.

Arrived boxing day bed and breakfast asked about upgrade options including the NYE gala. Roughly NYE gala was 90 euros each the HB Fb and all inc star prestige we found the prices very expensive and decided save some money and eat and drink out instead which after the end of the holiday did in fact work out cheaper. Drinks expensive in hotel 6.95 for a small beer and wine out the gate round the corner 1.50 a pint.
Watched numerous times people helping themselves to beer wine etc from the self serve pumps not on the all inc package nothing seemed to be said if I had paid for the upgrade this would have annoyed hence after reading reviews on here I didn't bother.
The fireworks NYE were excellent great display that went on for near on 15 minutes great atmosphere.
Staff animation team do a great job wine cheese tasting excellent generous helping of wine and cheese expected a little sample we were getting half a glass of each and a bottle to take away well stagger away. Similar paella and sangria demonstration
Rooms nicely renovated we were on floor 1 and still had a good view of the sea and surrounding area. Cleaners did a good job room spotless great location
Big pool very cold the other pool slightly warmer near the kids area.
7/10

This was a lovely location for our trip in mid February 2020. The group of 5 girls was made up of ladies aged 84, 74, 73, 53 and 17. The hotel was excellent for our needs, we wanted somewhere with everything we wanted at hand, but also some nice little shops etc round the doors.
There was an excellent selection of food and drink available virtually all day and all of the staff were lovely and helpful.
We sat round the pool nearly every day, there were loads of sun beds available at any time and the view over the sea was beautiful. The pools were quiet (probably because the majority of guests were over 60) and the area was immaculately clean. You could also pay a refundable deposit for pool towels which saved you having to take you own. There was also an excellent pool bar with great staff.
There is a brilliant mini water park for little ones too but we were there during term time so there was no one in it.
The entertainment team were great, there was loads to,do.
The rooms were lovely, light spacious and airy but I wouldn’t recommend paying for a sea or pool view unless you’re really tall as the balcony wall is so high when you’re sitting down you can’t see over.
All in all this is a lovely hotel in a great location . The staff were lovely from the first person we met to the last and everything was spotlessly clean. Along with the great food and drink and gorgeous pools - it was all excellent. We would definitely come back.

I recently stayed here as a solo traveller.I have stayed here many times in the past 20 years and you always wonder if the standard will be the same next time. With the corona virus making news headlines and a nearby hotel in Tenerife affected,I decided not to cancel and arrived with slight apprehension.
Any worries I had were soon dismissed.I was greeted by a lovely lady on reception Katrina and offered a complimentary glasss of cava.
My room on the 2 nd floor had sea views and looked out over the pool area.
Rooms have been upgraded.TIP.take your own travel kettle. There is a supply of shampoo conditioner and shower gel sufficient for your stay.
One day I was given a complimentary bottle of wine.
The standard of hygiene throughout the hotel was impeccable.I noticed fellow guests were embracing the extra hand washing and usage of the gel hand sanitisers especially in the dining room.
The poolside area has also been upgraded with the addition of an amazing children's area.Sun beds were in abundance.Towels require a 10 Euro deposit.
Through the day and evening there is an amazing entertainments team,Monica and Kevin work tirelessly to ensure that everyone is having a great time. You can join in or opt out of the vast range of activitie from sporting events to cooking demos.
I opted for half board and and there was a fantastic range of food available for everyone's tastes and dietary requirements.TIP a glass of wine is cheaper than a bottle.
Some nice complimentary touches were, tea and cofffe in the dining room at dinner, free glass of champagne one evening in the bar,a glass of cava with breakfast, paella and sangria tasting. These all contributed to this being a great hotel.
Thank you Bougainville for an amazing team in front of house and behind the scenes.

My Wife and I stayed all inclusive for a week.
Firstly please be aware that in January the fast majority of guests are retired and the hotel is suitably personalised for that age group, if you are a young family looking for active entertainment then this is probably not the hotel for you at this time of year, although I’m sure it’s different when we move out of winter.
The hotel is well located with all amenities in walking distance. Please note however that in order to access the promenade and beach you have to go down a lot of stairs and if you have mobility issues you may struggle with this location. (We walked a lot but then got a taxi back to the hotel to avoid trying to struggle up the hill, very reasonable, about 4€.)
We were initially shown a room on the 4 floor, which although very nice we preferred a Junior Suite, we went to reception and Marta and then her manager could not do enough to help find us what we wanted and eventually settled on room 739 which was absolutely beautiful, the bedroom looked over the town and the lounge balcony in the lounge had expansive views over the sea to La Gomera. (We paid for the upgrade)
We found the staff to be generally warm and friendly however one or two need to realise “one size does not fit all” and guests are individual.
The food was typical All Inclusive, very good on display however repetitive. I must comment about serving frozen chips, Frozen chips should be served at home when pressed for time etc, any establishment wanting to be taken seriously as a food provider should NOT be cutting corners by serving frozen chips.
I would like to make a special mention of Hasan who realised we were struggling for choice at dinner one night and cooked us both an individual meal, thank you Hasan, it was a lovely gesture and beautifully cooked too.
I also don’t agree with charging (albeit with a 50% discount) for premium ice cream, this is petty. The snacks available at the pool bar were poor, badly presented sandwiches which looked as though they had been there for a week! Also the pastries and cakes looked well past their sell by dates.
Also the hotel web site mentions that it is right next to Colon Marina making boat trips a breeze, this is not so, it is a good 20 minute walk to the Marina, again down all the steps - sorry to be pedantic but you really need to be accurate with claims that you make.
Overall I would recommend this hotel but please be aware of difficulties in you are mobility impaired.

After having many wonderful holidays in other Iberostar hotels, I have just returned from my first visit to the recently renovated Bouganville Playa.
As a solo traveller, feeling comfortable and safe is paramount to my holiday choices and here is a copy of the email I sent them upon my return....
"Thank you so much for the wonderful holiday I have just had at your hotel.
Your Management and Reception team welcomed me warmly each day, your head chef Victor and his kitchen artists provided 5* meals at each sitting.
Marvin and his entertainment team spent time with me every day to ensure I was involved in the fun.
Socas and Diaz never allowed my glass to be empty for too long.
My room was beautifully attended to by the housekeepers and the views each day by the pool just melted my heart.
I am truly blessed to have had the love and attention from you all, please convey my thanks to everyone and I will be back again without doubt later this year "
I hope these comments help anyone trying to decide if this is a right choice for them.

Stayed for 8 nights in Feb 2020. This is our 3rd Iberostar visit in the Canaries in as many years. Happy again with the stay. Food was top notch, as were the staff. The animation team looking after kids are excellent. We've come to love the Madre Tierra song and dance that the animation do.
The team doing the kids activities were superb. Kids loved the mini disco. The shows were great. Hotel is clean, the rooms are kept clean. The other services like the photography team were awesome too. You get photos of your stay taken by pros and even a custom photoshoot thrown in at what we felt was a reasonable price.
The management are responsive (we made a small gripe about the coffee quality and they did something about it the very next day)
There are many nearby restaurants, bars etc at walking distance. There is a (proper) supermarket (a Mercadona) a couple of mins away.
There is also a bus stop a min away if you fancy using public transport.
However, the beach isnt exactly right there - its about 4 or 5 mins walk. Even so, its not a particularly big beach. A better beach is closer to the Costa Adeje Boulevard which is about 20 mins walk away. This boulevard is also where there are many more sea facing restaurants, bars and shops (Adidas, Foot Locker, Benetton etc)
The only reasons why this is not a 5 star rating are: Room was a bit cramped, as was the restaurant. I booked a priority location room (and picked the room myself from the interactive map online - where it looked like I'd get a front facing sea view) but I got a side sea view with another multi storied hotel standing in the way. A lifeguard at the pool was rude but overall staff were beyond excellent.
Definitely going back: Keep it up Iberostar!

First visit to this hotel and we were very pleased with every aspect of the hotel food was excellent from breakfast to lunch and evening meal we were all inclusive and I can honestly say I have never had as much choice for my meals at any other hotel we have visited everything was so tasty. The reception area was lovely and bright and check in was very quick with members of staff very pleasant and attentive. The rooms were spotless very spacious we had a sea view which was stunning at sunrise and sunset. Pool area was also spotless with plenty of loungers and umbrellas for shade if required various different pools with one being heated. We will definitely be back at this hotel cannot recommend the Bouganville Playa highly enough if your thinking of visiting this area of Tenerife then book this you won't be disappointed.

I always hope to give a honest review we had a lovely 11 night stay all inclusive. The food is really good although a bit repetive drinks are excellent branded and good cocktails. The staff are mainly outstanding and very friendly apart from one young lady on reception who checked us in we found after queueing for an hour to check in even though i had checked in on line she was quite rude and told us if we needed to pay deposit for towels which we were happy to sort on check in but she insisted we would have to come back and queue again.
We were happy to be on floor one because otherwise you spent a lot of your holiday time waiting for one of the four lifts that serves 10 floors.
The rooms are lovely the best shower ever had and lovely walk in shower. The room was spotless and cleaned well everyday shower gel shampoo and conditioner provided. Rooms were modern and looked great but not practical if you ladies like to sit at the dressing table to get ready the mirror is too high and the stool far too low i used a balcony plastic chair for the whole holiday and always take a small bathroom mirror i have found this in other hotels too. The wardropes hanging space is short so if you have long dresses then they cannot be hung in the wardrope. The hairdryer is in the bathroom and is powerful. I agree with the no plastic and a glass jug is in your room to fill from the cold water dispenser on each floor. The only problem is the jug does not fit in the fridge. On our last visit pre covid you had a free mini bar soft drinks beer and water left in your room also cakes etc this is no longer the case even though the covid restrickens have been lifted.
The hotel is in a good location and the roof top bar area is lovely on an evening they did have a party night here during our stay but unfortunatly only about 20% of guest could attend due to lack of space and seating. Overhall we enjoyed our holiday it is a family hotel and even out of uk holiday time was very busy with familys this did not bother us in the slightest but may other couples. In my view the prestige is not worth the extra . The sunbathing area is adults only but you use the same dining room and have to walk down three flights of stairs to use the pool.
We enjoyed our holiday and would return but the check in procedure needs to be addressed a big shout out for i think Melina the polish lady from the bar in the lobby such a lovely lady.

My husband and I stayed at Iberostar Bouganville for one week in mid-September 2020. It was both our first visit to Tenerife and our first trip abroad since the pandemic. We could not have picked a better destination or hotel.
We knew that added health & safety measures would be in place at the hotel prior to travelling, but were unsure what these would entail. We were happily surprised to find out that the hotel had taken every possible measure to minimise contagion. There were hand sanitisers by the elevators in every floor and in every common area, and (reassuringly!) guests were asked to use hand sanitiser before entering any dining area. In the dining area itself – which is buffet-style – tongs and spoons beside the serving plates were changed regularly to avoid contagion. All guests and staff wore masks at all times when indoors. There were clear signs and posters reminding guests to hand sanitise, wear masks and socially distance. We felt safe and comfortable throughout our stay.
On to the fun stuff… The hotel itself is extremely well-decorated, with unique murals scattered across different floors. It’s also very airy and spacious, which gives the hotel a very elegant touch. But the true beauty of the hotel is to be found in its outdoor spaces, which I can only describe as fantastic. When we were not out exploring, we would spend the day by the solarium pool taking in the sun, laying on a sunbed watching the sea or simply visiting the beach next door, less than 5 min walk away from the hotel. Travellers’ tip: booking a Star Prestige stay will give you access to several exclusive areas + jacuzzis + unlimited drinks during a set period of time.
Most people on here have already commented on the exceptional quality of the food. I can only say that I wholeheartedly agree and encourage you all to try the insanely good homemade waffles at the breakfast buffet!
