Hi to all at FaaSai. Thank you for showing us the true side of living in Thailand. After spending a few days in chaotic Bangkok, I was so impressed with the people and overall experience of being in the countryside.
I'm sorry if I tried to eat all the food, but it was so delicious, I couldn't get enough.
We stayed in one of the private bungalows close to the swimming pool, and near enough to the restaurant. The room was nice, with full bathroom, and lots of TV channels.
We got to visit the farm and see the fish, the cows and the trees that bear bananas, coconuts, papaya, chilis and other wonderful fruits. The beach is a short walk, or bike ride away.
The staff did everything they could for us. The grounds need a lot of daily upkeep to have everything looking so well, but everyone works really hard, but always with a smile.
If we get the chance to go back to Thailand, FaaSai will surely be on the list.

In July 2008, I spent a lovely weekend at Kung Wiman beach, near Chanthaburi, on the Gulf of Thailand. I highly recommend this area for tourists or Bangkok residents who want a quick getaway into an unusually quiet and clean coastal town. It is not on the typical tourist’s radar, so you won’t find crowds or hawkers, only peace and quiet. I stayed a few hundred meters from the beach at Faa Sai, www.faasai.com, a small eco-resort with rooms ranging from 900 – 4,100 baht per night. A Thai/New Zealand couple runs the resort which is A Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Award 2008 Finalist. The 15-room retreat is situated in lush grounds and provides authentic luxury experiences such as “forest cuisine” from the garden’s native trees and Thai herbal massage.

My 1,500 baht ($45 USD) per night, solar-powered bungalow was immaculate and included all the comforts of home: T.V., air conditioning, and mini refrigerator. The 2.5 hour drive southeast from Bangkok was easy and smooth on the well-lighted expressways. Faa Sai can also be reached by van or taxi, which the staff will arrange. The staff is also happy to arrange motorcycles, bicycles, kayaks, hikes, or other activities during your stay.

I chose to spend my breezy, pleasant Saturday wandering down the 850 meter boardwalk running through a nearby protected mangrove forest. The eco-system there is incredible. Equally enjoyable was a stop at a roadside fruit stand on the way back. Sampling delicious tropical fruit, fresh from the area farms, is not to be missed. If you are looking for a comfortable bungalow in a beautiful area, then Faa Sai Resort in coastal Chanthaburi is sure to please!

If we'd taken the travel book information on Chanthaburi at face value we would never have ventured to this restful haven 3 hours drive from Bangkok, and we would have missed the colourful chaos of the weekend gem market in Chanthaburi itself. We stayed in one of the comfortable villas, with its spacious verandah a perfect place to be at sunrise and sunset; although the best place to enjoy the latter was the near-empty beach on the Gulf of Thailand (a 10 minute walk from the Resort). Evening meals were a treat and, for two of them, planned in advance to take advantage of the fresh fish or seafood. The staff were warm in their welcome and helpful with their advice. They made every effort to make you feel at home. On our next visit, we'll use FaaSai as base for further exploration of an area committed to eco-tourism. We took a taxi both ways. We'll probably hire a car when we visit again. Thanks Bronwen and your great team from two grateful Kiwis.

I have travelled around the world and visit a lot of countries, hotels and resorts during my life but I have NEVER been more disappointed after a stay then after Faasai Resort & Spa.

I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with an exclusive and wonderful experience so I booked the Penthouse in Faasai 3 500/night.

I have read their homepage and watched beautiful pictures of a wonderful room and terrace, but it showed out to be a total disgrace compared to the pictures.

It was dirty, fray and run down.

We expected a wonderful holiday/stay but were extremely disappointed and felt cheated.

We had been in Thailand for more than six weeks before we arrived in Faasai and we had stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels and resorts paying less than in Faasai so our expectations were actually high, but the owner Bronwen from New Zealand show no honest understanding and will when we tried to talk her about the diffrences between pictures in their homepage compared to reality.

When we checked out her staff also tried to charge us for unfair and wrong costs.

Maybe their interest in nature and ecological things are genuine and real, but a bitter aftertaste of greed and ignorance is our memory of Faasai Resort & Spa.

The Penthouse is not even worth 1000 Baht/night and unfortunately this is the worst rip-off ever in 30 years of travelling around the world.

Response from bekk55, Owner at Faasai Resort & Spa
Responded 31 Jan 2013
If guests have genuine concerns we appreciate their thoughtful response and we use their feedback to improve our service. However this specific review creates a distorted picture and I would like to respond to his three main points: 1. The room is too expensive 2. It doesn’t look like the photos on the website 3. We didn’t listen to the guests’ complaints At over 100 square metres including the terrace, the penthouse is a generous size by any hotel standard. Moreover it has a spectacular 360 degree view of forest, gardens, hills, mountains and sea. It is private with a bird’s eye view of the resort and from the terrace you can see the moonrise, sunrise, starlit skies, myriads of birds and butterflies and be bathed in the golden light of dawn and dusk. In our view it is well worth the price of around $120 USD. If readers would like to see for themselves - a moving panoramic view of the penthouse can be seen on SawasdeeVR.com, hotels/Faasai Resort and Spa/gallery 8. This is an independent group associated with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and they shot the footage themselves. In any case we have a number of room choices for our guests, starting at USD 33 a night, including breakfast. The penthouse, which is twice the size of any other room, is the most expensive. At no point did this guest say they were dissatisfied with the room price and request to move to a cheaper one – we would have accommodated them if they had. Regarding the photos on the website –certainly they are taken at a lovely angle and light, attesting to the skill of the photographer. However the only material difference to the penthouse today to the images on our own website is that some of the decorations have changed – for example there is a different cover on the bed – and on the website we had not set out furniture on the terrace, such as an umbrella and sofa and mat. If we had received a request to decorate the penthouse like in the website we would have accommodated it, but we did not receive one. As for not listening or understanding - I am Bronwen and I met the couple several times over the course of their visit. I inquired after their comfort and welfare, asking questions like – “how is everything?” and was told it was fine. However, after spending one night, the lady asked me if they would have to pay for the whole five nights they had booked for. I said no - but they would have to pay for two nights as per our policy. After all, we had withdrawn the room from the market for the five days they had booked. In any case I asked if they were cutting short the visit because of any problem and she said her partner was not feeling well and they were thinking of going to Bangkok to see a doctor. He said he had aching bones and I told them about our local hospital (Bangkok Hospital) which is very good and gave him some herbal balm from the spa. They did not mention any dissatisfaction with the room. Finally, late in the afternoon of their second day (they were due to leave the next morning) I saw them once more and he mentioned he was feeling a bit better. They also mentioned that the room looked different to the photos on the website. When I asked for specifics and they said there wasn’t an umbrella on the terrace. This was the 4th time I had spoken to them since they arrived and the 1st time that had mentioned any dissatisfaction with the room. I am afraid I did not realize this was serious issue, especially as, in one very important respect the room is much better than the photos on the website - the gardens have matured and are now very lovely. At no time did they complain about the price, ask to stay in a cheaper room nor if we could arrange the furniture on the terrace for them.

I love this place. We spent Christmas and some other holidays here. We consider it our home away from home. It is only 2 to 3 hours from Bangkok. The Owner and Staff are very warm and welcoming. Food and services always very good. Simple but comfortable and tranquil surroundings. Everyone greets you with a big smile and makes you feel so much like family. If you want seafood by the beach you can walk, bike or drive your car. You can always make a request for Thai food not in the menu and they will happily prepare it for you as long as you order in advance. We have been here several times and we look forward to going back again. Nice to note that not only foreigners go there but Thai as well. The bungalows are very nicely built along the small road in front of the swimming pool. They also have villas for families. They have spa services. The owners, Bronwen and Surin, have a farm with all sorts of medicinal plants and herbs. a lake and a fishpond aside from the fruit bearing trees and rice field. Interesting nature trip surprising so near to Bangkok. Take your time to see it if you have time and if you want to be recharged.

Well, staff is nice, food is nice and it's really clean. But lot of places are like that in Thailand. It's situated close to a busy road with noisy traffic, you have to walk for 10 min on that road to get to a nice beach where you meet only locals.
We stayed four adults for one night and as we are beach people that was more than enough. Might be a good place for outdoor activities....?

Once again my husband and I booked to stay for 2 weeks at Faasai Resort and Spa for the 7th year in a row. We felt like we were having a holiday with family members as that is how we were treated. We always stay in the Blue Mountain Villa which we find very comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Still the same staff and we had lots of fun with them with plenty of laughs. Unfortunately my husband became very ill at the end of the first week and was admitted to Chanthaburi Hospital. Bronwen and Surin the owners or Sittichock the manager drove me the 30 klms every day for a week to see him then my husband was transferred to Bangkok Hospital. While I was there on my own Bronwen couldn't do enough for me as well as all the staff which was a great comfort to me as I felt I wasn't alone dealing with this very unexpected situation.

The view from the penthouse's terrace was magnificent and breath-taking...except that the penthouse suite itself was a disappointment. We aren't sure if the 4,100 Baht per night we paid for was for the great view the terrace offered because the suite was certainly not worth it. The toilet and bath looked dirty and the plumbings are corroded; the room felt very distracting (with all the visible and scattered electrical wirings as well as the old and rundown furnitures) instead of relaxing--very far from what we've seen on the pictures.

Likewise, the breakfast, specifically the pancake, was terrible. The cook probably forgot to put some raising agent on it to make it fluffier.

Perhaps the resort was great during the first few years of its operations, but it certainly needs some TLC as I see it now.

Find it's nice to visit places in SE Asia and stay at different hotels , however the Faasai has some sort of magnetic attraction for me . Have stayed five times so far and looking forward to the next one .
The resort has some sort of serenity to it which is quite rare and very appealing , the staff go out of their way to please and the restaurant food is delicious and natural .
Made some good friends and had some lovely evenings there .
A great escape from busy city life .

This resort was the reason for us to visit the southeast of Thailand, and we have no regrets. The place is beautiful, the people are lovely and helpful and the area is really interesting and sees hardly any western tourists.

The gardens are so relaxing, with lots of play area for children, a nice swimming pool, a beautiful Bodhi tree, a lookout terrace. The restaurant serves very good Thai food and some western dishes as well, although we hardly needed that option even with our young kids. This is a fruit area, and they serve nice smoothies too. An excursion to the organic farm where the fruit and herbs are grown is free to all visitors. Other excursions are well taken care of- there is a lot to do and see for adults and children.

The wonderful beach of Kung Wiman is almost empty - just a few Thai families sometimes, and people gathering seafood, and there are good cheap restaurants to eat at sunset. That is, if you really think the food can get any better than at Faasai, which is hard to beat.
