We stayed here for two nights visiting relatives. The hotel, bar and restaurant are very modern, well lit and decorated. There was a great atmosphere, everyone knew each other and were very friendly. Mike and Elena were fantastic hosts and made us very welcome. The food was great with a good selection to choose from. The room we stayed in was a good size overlooking the rear of the property with the hills in the distance. It was well furnished, clean and well decorated, the bathroom was a good size with bath and shower. This is a great place to stay, close to many sightseeing opportunities, well worth a visit, family run, friendly and welcoming.
I visited with my family over the bank holiday weekend to celebrate my wedding Anniversary. We booked 3 rooms and each room was clean and well equipped. We had a family room which was very spacious, airy and bright with a beautiful view over the surrounding area. We had the added bonus of being able to watch the sun rise over the gorgeous scenery from the comfort of our room (love early morning starts in the lake). We ate from the restaurant both nights, food was delicious and very well priced. Bar prices were really good to and the services for both food and drink was brilliant. Breakfast was served between 8-9 again service was brilliant and the food was equally as nice. I must also add covid 19 regulations were very much adhered to by the staff, always cleaning and ensuring guests had enough distance. This is a lovely place to stay and a brilliant spot for exploring the area. Very relaxing and comfortable stay. If you are looking for recommendations for things to do Muncaster Castle is about 5 minutes drive up the road and worth a visit but book online! Also Laal Ratty train is also worth a look if you have kids they will love it but again book the night before online.…
Our experience didn't start well- being left for a good time at reception with staff walking past, ignoring us. When we gave up and went to the bar we were told to go back and sign the book. We had to take it in turns to decide what food we wanted to order from the one menu on the bar. Then we went to our table and proceeded to wait for over an hour with nobody checking to see if we would like another drink despite several of us having empty glasses. We went to find someone to ask how long our food would be and in response we were huffed at and the lady walked off, 15 minutes later she returned and said it would be about 10 minutes. When the food came we said that there was a second side still to come and the response was all the sides were in the one bowl. The food itself was lovely, however the service left a lot to be desired- no apology about the long wait, no visit from staff to check in on us during the meal, and no enquiries or apologies when we paid the bill. In addition we had to change our baby's nappy on the floor as there is no baby change facilities. We were not informed of this when we booked and requested a highchair for the baby in advance. Not an ideal environment for young children. Our party were very disappointed as this is one of our nearest local pubs, but due to the service and attitude of the staff, we won't return.…
The rooms were clean and with good facilities ( I.e shower en-suite, Kettle, tv.) The owners and Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very good knowledge of the area. The food was excellent , quick service and nice big portions. The Breakfast was really nice as well. Elena was always on the go and always with a smile, making sure that you didn’t miss on anything. Scafell pike and Wast Water was only 30 min away and the beach was 10 min away. Everything else was very accessible. I definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and I hope to go there again.
Visited in July 2020 with partner, restaurant recommended by person running our accomodation. Our expectations may have been a bit too high as we left slightly disappointed. Phoned to book and were told they didn’t service food until after 7pm which we agreed to. Arrived and outside of property is a bit run down. Went into entrance hall no one there to tell us where to go. Eventually a cleaner pointed us to bar area. Bit of a strange set up there no menus on tables just typed up menu on bar. Chose what we want and despite only two tables being occupied and kitchen presumably just opening we were told they’d sold out of one of the mains and one of the puddings. We ordered different dishes which were very tasty and large portions. While we ate there wasn’t much atmosphere - tv on in background but no music etc. Overall food very nice reasonable price but service and atmosphere put a bit of a downer on experience and stopped it feeling special. …
