Aomori-ya, a Hoshino Resorts accommodation, is located in a lush, park-like area close to Misawa Station.
When we arrived at Aomori-ya, parked our car in the car park and headed towards the hotel, we were greeted by a pony. After checking in and heading to our room, the entire building was covered in apples. There was even a tap that dispensed apple juice.
We had both dinner and breakfast at Noresore Shokudo. This restaurant allows you to reserve your entry time in advance. It was a buffet restaurant where you could enjoy Aomori's local cuisine.
After dinner, we enjoyed the show at Michinoku Matsuri-ya. This show, which starts at 9pm, is paid and requires a reservation, but it is a must-see if you are staying at Aomori-ya. We thoroughly enjoyed the show, which recreated four of Aomori's most famous festivals.
The next morning, after breakfast, we strolled around the large grounds. There is a large pond surrounded by lush greenery and old houses and other buildings, making for a pleasant walk.

In a nutshell, the staff were amazing. Everyone was smiling. The room was clean and well cleaned. The public baths and open-air baths were spacious and comfortable. The food was very satisfying. The only regret was that Chinese travelers did not understand the manners of the bath. A video about manners was playing in the changing room, but you wouldn't bother watching it. Instead, I thought it would be better to explain things like pouring hot water before you check in and not putting towels in the tub. It is a hotel I would like to stay if I have another opportunity.

We had a restful stay at the Hoshino Aomoriya onsen resort.
The service, as expected from a Hoshino resort, was warm and top notch. This applied from check-in, to the restaurant service staff, to the housekeeping.
The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We had a Japanese-style room in the main building which was convenient. Unfortunately, it didn't have much of a view as it was facing another block.
We visited during the cherry blossom season, and the large park and lake was simply beautiful. The park includes a foot bath, a stable for the resort's resident horses, a tea lounge, and a kaiseki restaurant.
The resort boasts two onsen. One is a 10 min walk away while another resides within the main block. The latter is probably the better one, as it offers both an outdoor and indoor onsen (the former is purely indoors) but it'll be more crowded due to its accessibility. I would recommend visiting at off peak hours (meal times, early morning, or late night) for the best experience. There's also a spa that offers an excellent massage at reasonable rates.
The food at the buffet restaurant was delectable. We didn't try the kaiseki restaurant which has a hefty surcharge.
All in all, a great option for families and couples. Convenient and it has a fair share of activities. Unlike the other Hoshino resort, the thematic focus is more on the cultural festivals of Aomori. The only downside is that it can get crowded at times when tour groups visit.

I visit Aomoriya once every year. Because of the great first year, we feel the service decline year by year. Before COVID-19, there were various programs such as caring for children's horses. Maybe it's labor costs or labor shortages. I used to be able to enjoy creative dishes using local vegetables, but this time it was shark meat. The menu is mainly fried and croquettes for foreigners. Inside the restaurant, customers were running around and competing for food, and I couldn't enjoy my meal as slowly as I had before. There must be a lot of raw material prices and stuff, and I'm also concerned that the quality of Chinese customers is very different from before. The apple juice tree was also lined up and I couldn't drink it after all. Is this because of high prices or the weak yen, or is it because of hotels that open so much and cater to poor-quality group customers ... or is it because I booked a relatively cheap hotel?
I used to use it every year looking forward to the relaxing time and space, but if it becomes the noisy hotel it is today, I will next visit a business hotel in Misawa.

Very understaffed place. Check-in can take 30 minutes or more. One onsen for hundreds of guests means that you can expect to be shoulder to shoulder with fellow guests. They even have a website to tell you the current overcrowding status of the bath (hint: from 7 PM on its permanently red).
This is a very child friendly resort. If you have kids, you will feel right at home. Small children are running everywhere.
The 5000 yen buffet is overpriced and very very average. Best dish is the beef stew (no joke, my group tried almost everything). Expect to be seated in a very narrow sliver of a space and bump around the food area with dozens of others all aiming for the salad bowl before it is empty. If this review hasn’t convinced you to book a different hotel for your “luxury” Aomori experience and you wind up here, best to cancel the buffet and have dinner in the bar area in the basement where very acceptable looking seafood bowls and ramen can be had for a fraction of the price and much more enjoyment.
The nightly show was billed as included (aka free) but when you arrive at the location you will find that the entire front area before the stage is roped off and they expect 2500 per person to sit there.
There is a semi-private lounge on the lake that actually resembles Hoshino “quality” but you need to make a reservation in advance. Guess what? All the best slots are already reserved well in advance. Also, it costs 1500 extra to use, if you can get a reservation.
This resort is already expensive; nickel & diming feels wrong. Not being able to use the onsen in the evening because of overcrowding is also rediculous.
Good news: rooms are clean, large and modern. Windows are dirty, but it is probably hard to clean them as they don’t open.

I was very excited by the extraordinary decorations, such as the torii gates and the many lanterns in the hallways. The faucet that dispenses apple juice is also unusual and interesting. The grounds are large, and there is a small game center and bar-like area, and there are horses and a foot bath outside the building, so you won't get bored even if you stay for more than two nights. However, as mentioned above, it is a lively hotel, so if you want to enjoy various activities after arriving at the hotel, I highly recommend it, but if you want to relax at the hotel, it may not be suitable.

Worst customer service, I booked through their online, didn't realize it was non-refundable rate. I called to make changes to the reservation 2.5 months in advance of the trip and they wouldn't let me make any changes. I gave them a good reason but still won't make exceptions. I called 5-7 times now and talked to several different people, still wasn't able to get through. I read similar reviews from other people. Clearly, this needs to be addressed.

Aomoriya was a great place to stay! First of all, there was so much food on offer at the restaurant, and I enjoyed all of it deliciously. The food made with local ingredients was particularly impressive. The service of the staff was also very detailed and kind to any requests. There were also many hands-on activities at Aomoriya, which I really enjoyed participating in. In particular, the Program, which allowed me to experience the culture and traditions of Aomori, deepened my travel memories. The food, service and activities all exceed expectations and I would love to come back.

It is one of the Hoshino Resorts! You can enjoy Aomori to your heart's content, including local Aomori ingredients and Nebuta! At night, you can enjoy your meal while watching a show that recreates Aomori's Nebuta Festival, which is fun! You can also have plenty of fun inside the hotel ☆

I visited with my family during summer vacation. The design was reminiscent of a festival venue, and it was a lot of fun. However, compared to the nearby Kai Tsugaru, it is more family-oriented, so it may not be suitable for those looking for a relaxing stay. Although it is right next to Misawa Station, the surrounding area is not a hot spring town, so you have to complete your stay within the hotel. The food was delicious and elaborate. However, it was a shame that the path to the room was a little hot. The open-air bath was truly open-air, and very pleasant. It is one of the inns I would like to visit again.
