Watamu Treehouse is situated on one of the most picturesque stretches of Watamu beach, ideally located right opposite the Coral Gardens of the Marine Park. There are no large hotels nearby, only private residences. Built high in the trees, its unique architecture affords a 360 degree panorama of the Indian Ocean coastline on one side and native forest on the other. Watamu Treehouse has seven bedrooms, all of which are ensuite. There are also a number of other beds and sleeping areas and you can sleep up to about 20 in the two towers There is everything you need here for a wonderful holiday. Just bring yourselves and your toys. Daily deliveries of fresh seafood and produce, and anything from the local supermarket can be arranged. The kitchen is equipped with fridge, cooker, oven, deep-freeze, plus a good range of utensils and cookware. As this is also a family home, you will find high quality crockery, cutlery and glassware in the cupboards, as well as fine bedlinen, mosquito-netting and towels. Note: Please bring your own bathroom consumables, as they are not provided with the house rental. The house consists of two towers in the trees, linked by bridges, stairways and ramps. Most of the building was deliberately set above the beautiful coastal forest - for the stunning views and the cooling breeze, and also to avoid unnecessary damage to the natural environment. The house has no windows - just frames around vistas of nature in all its glory. You share the forest with the birds, insects, small mammals, reptiles and primates. The forest boasts many indigenous trees common to the coastal strip, including beautiful baobabs and many examples of the remarkable bamba-kofi. Both living and sleeping areas are situated just above the forest canopy, open to the cooling coastal breezes and the scintillating views. You sleep breathing the fresh air of the forest and awaken to the early morning calls of the wildlife - especially birds and sykes monkeys! The views from the house are stunning. Unusually for the East Coast of Africa, Watamu Treehouse offers a complete 360 degree horizon, affording sensational views of sunsets over forests, coconut plantations and Mida Creek, as well as sunrises and moonrises over the Indian Ocean... You have a choice of several verandas and a sublime rooftop space, all designed to accommodate both communal activities and private retreats from which to contemplate the beauty of the surroundings. Please note that the house is built high off the ground. If a fear of heights, climbing up flights of stairs, would spoil your holiday, then this might not be the best house for you. It should also be reconsidered should any member of your party be prone to losing their balance after a particularly long and well-lubricated night! And groups with small children might find this house not suitable, although many groups have been coming with all ages of children since 1998
If you are deathly afraid of even seeing a mosquito, geckos on walls, or monkeys, Treehouse might not be for you. Each room is unique, but the design is essentially "open" such that instead of windows you are part of nature. The room I stayed in, Baobab, has amazing views overlooking a lush tree canopy. While I was nervous at first with the lack of windows (hello, mosquitoes!), I left with no bites and saw very few bugs overall. Your bed will be thoroughly equipped with a sprayed net. If you like to have complete privacy for loud love making or are uncomfortable with an outdoor shower, Treehouse might not be for you (though I believe there are some rooms with bathrooms completely indoors). Sound travels very easily and some of the showers are visible by other rooms. I personally *loved* the outdoor arrangement and thought the price of someone by chance seeing my naked bum was worth that feeling of ocean-derived wind caressing my body. If you are strictly a carnivore or not willing to try plant-based food, Treehouse might not be for you.
If you're still keen despite the statements above, you may love Watamu Treehouse! Come to Treehouse if you're looking for a place to quiet your mind and get in touch with your true, highest self. There is an amazing yoga room overlooking the ocean. You can take part in multiple styles of yoga classes and listen to the waves crash as you flow. The food -- pescatarian, clean, plant-based, ayuerveda-inspired -- will nourish and heal your body and soul. For half-board, breakfast and dinner are included. With these meals you will leave feeling elevated. There is a long-list of activities to try. I recommend the "float" in the mangroves during full/new moon cycles. If you are a solo traveller, you can ask what group activities are going on since prices decrease the more individuals that take part. If you're really on a budget (I was), there are still multiple free activities: taking dips in the nice, cool, deep pool; meditating/self-yoga practice; walks along the beach/sandbar; swimming in the ocean. Don't miss the amazing sunrise and sunsets -- you can even do a sunrise swim in the ocean which is divine.
The team at Treehouse will make you feel at home. They live by example, exude consciousness, and will do everything in their power to make your stay a good one. The rest is up to you. Thank you team.
We stayed at the Treehouse for 3 nights with our 2 daughters (14 & 16 years). We really had a great time. We did a couple of activities like sub peddling, floating and we had our first yoga experience. It all was great! The staff, the food, the rooms... everything! I'm sure we'll come back!
recently stayed here for a yoga retreat. the rooms are open so no windows which was incredible because the views were beautiful and the monkeys were not aggressive but so cool to wake up to one on your ledge! the food was amazing and so healthy. but the staff was what made this hotel so special. they couldn’t do enough to make us happy!’ id def stay here again!!! thanks
Four of us (parents and two kids) stayed in the Tree house for five nights in October 2018. It was unusual and breathtaking to sleep in the room without walls with a light breeze from the ocean. The upper floor has a 360 yoga room open to guests, so we enjoyed the experience of having a yoga class and a sundown afterwards. The food was all about freshly prepared vegetables with seafood - really enjoyable and healthy. The beach is just about 100 meters walk through the forest.
Stayed here for three nights in September and really enjoyed our stay. The room was large and nicely designed, the fact that it is high up and is open means that you have the perfect natural air conditioning, with a constant gentle breeze meaning it's hard to leave the comfort of your room. The food was amazing healthy and well made, obviously a lot of time and care has been taken to provide a variety of plentiful fresh and delicious options. The staff were amazing, so welcoming and friendly. I was feeling a bit under the weather on the first morning and I got a special delivery of delicious pancakes up to my room. The ethos is welcoming and considerate, having flexible breakfast, dinner and lunch times, as well as choosing when you would like your morning coffee to your room. It is away from the hustle and bustle but still only a short walk to the beach, they supply beach towels and also a nice touch a bag that you have the option to pick up some of the plastic from the beach which they will recycle - so you can feel like you are doing some good during your stay. We went on some of the trips as well- a kayak sunset tour and snorkelling tour- which was great! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it.
