As a family group of three we had a most enjoyable stay at Anaiki Motel at the end of July 2023. The gin deck on top of the limestone cliff is the best! We could sit out there for hours while the whales leapt about and dolphins swam past - wonderful. Ilona is awesome, very engaged with her customers and has a fascinating back story. The roosters were damned annoying.. there’s about a dozen of them and they compete with each other in the cockle doodle do department every morning starting at 4:30 am. Too much male testosterone. If Ilona could get rid of them the whole experience would be enhanced. But then I also understand they are her “family” along with the hens, rusty the cat and the various kittens with the weird facial features. On the whole I would be happy to go back..

Thank you for your feedback, greatly appreciated. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and I remember you were one of the lucky guests to have a lifetime opportunity to swim with the whales. We also upgraded you to a more comfortable sleeping arrangement for your group, of course without charge. Indeed, the motel is settled in the nature, some local roosters and hens are permanent residents of the area of the motel that is more than 6000 sqm. Time by time there are number of others coming from the bush in the hope of food, which is out of our control. As on the most pacific islands they are rather looked at as native birds than annoying pests. We are informing our guests prior to arrival, and advise to be prepared with earplugs for those with light sleeping issues.

Loved our stay at Anaiki Motel on our recent trip to Niue. The rooms were clean and tidy and it has an amazing viewing deck to watch the dolphins from. Short walk down to the Avaiki Caves which was our favourite swimming spot on the whole island. Hope to be back soon, thanks so much Illona & Norman!!

This is a lovely newly refurbished motel that is right next door to a beach access. Rooms are well equipped with everything and there is a lovely viewing platform to relax on and watch the whales or just to sit and read. Snorkeling pools close by with a cave that has a lovely swimming pool.

The Island of Niue is paradise, and the people of Niue are beautiful in heart and nature.
Our first impression of Anaiki was reasonably good, but things went downhill rapidly.
Before we booked, we explained that internet was important because of our business. This was confirmed at the cost of $25.00 for the week. Ok, it's expensive, but I needed it for work, and that is fair enough.
When we arrived at the motel, we did not immediately notice anything, probably being a little tired. We hung up some clothes and put the kettle on. My wife took out two cups, and I saw her face instantly drop. She showed me the inside of them, they were disgusting. (See photographs)
I could see the disappointment on her face and knew that she would now start looking around the room more closely.
It soon became apparent that we were in a filthy room with even worse furniture and bedding. Generally, at this point, we would have packed our bags and left. Unfortunately, in this case, we were trapped. We knew for certain there was not a single other room available on the island.
I decided to get on the internet and check all other accommodation for cancellations. (that was how we ending up at Anaiki) Norman would not give me internet access as he said he had to check with the owner first. This was very strange as it was a paid for service and the owner had already confirmed this was OK.
Eventually, that night a knock at the door saying the internet was available. However, I would have to go and stand in front of the office to use it. It turns out guests cannot get wifi signals in their the directional antenna is turned away from the rooms. So you pay you $25.00 to sit in the rain to use the internet. I told Norman this was not good. He became very defensive, and I felt uncomfortable to take it further.
We decided to grin and bear it until the owner got back from New Zealand so we could sort it out and get something sorted. We opted to not discuss this with the caretaker as we found out that he was also the cleaner. He gave the impression of being approachable, but he certainly was not.
The next morning we headed off to the information center to check on any possible accommodation. Nothing! Back to the room late afternoon and wife got really upset. Long story short. We confirmed an early flight and then on the morning went to the office to check out. Nobody was there. We went to the airport where there was someone waiting for our car which was strange as we had paid for a full weeks hire. We wrote and emailed to the owner and said we would be in touch regarding the situation as soon as we got home.
On returning home, we wrote to the owner and explained the situation along with the photographs
No apology, very defensive, not even a sorry. --- In summary, our advice would be to avoid this place.

Fabulous motel located in a quiet setting overlooking the reef below and wider Pacific. The rock pools and caves directly beneath the motel offer an amazing diversity in marine life and snorkeling is easy and safe in the warm tropical pools. Ilona was a wonderful welcoming host and the hire car was a bonus - we will return for sure, probably during whale season we can watch whales from the deck at sunset while sipping our wine!

Hi, Thank you for your feedback here. It was a great pleasure to having you here. I hope your vanilla brings flower since and you'll have great success with them. We had many whales around this year, amazing whale watching moments from the deck, all through from mid July till end of August. They are still around, but less and with less activity. I look forward to seeing you again.

We stayed at Anaiki in September and loved it. Lovely comfy big one bedroom unit with everything we needed. Only four units so not too busy and this made for a nice friendly atmosphere. Ideally located right next to the amazing Avaiki cave and with some of the best snorkelling spots we found right out front. Avaiki has a beautiful cave pool to swim in as an alternative to snorkelling. The motel is only a few metres to the cliff edge with a lookout so is great for a regular whale/ dolphin / tide check or to enjoy the sunsets We hired a car so we could enjoy the Alofi restaurants but Anaiki is only 7 km from town and is close to some of the best attractions which are in the northwestern part of he island. We found a papaya and coconut in the fridge and the beautiful local honey and a loaf of bread waiting for us on arrival. As we decided to enjoy the local restaurants, the small fridge was fine for us. A bigger fridge may be a consideration for any future development. Otherwise, the kitchen had everything you may need to prepare your own meals. Ilona was a really helpful, welcoming and considerate hostess from first contact, offering to arrange anything we needed. She helped with restaurant and tour bookings and had useful advice. The island's rampant rooster population seems to be in control at Anaiki. Some areas seemed to have crowing roosters all day long, but Ilonas stately rooster seemed very well behaved and quiet! Thanks Ilona. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate your friendliness and helpfulness. Anaiki is probably one of the best located on the island and Niue is a fabulous holiday destination. Loved it and almost everyone we saw was wishing they had booked for more than a week!

Anaiki is a great place to stay while visiting Niue, from the meeting at the airport to the departure 10 days later. Our stay in these units was excellent, with extremely great hospitability, local knowledge on points of interest and places to visit. The motels are close to caves, tracks and snorkelling pools, with a great lookout, which has a superb track from the units. From here you can watch the whales, the sunset, the sunrise or just the horizon. The units are well appointed and very comfortable. We dined out most nights but the units have all the facilities to cook or bbq if you choose. A rental car or means of transport is a necessity to get around the Island and to local restaurants. Falala Fa was our favourite but even that struggled to beat "Normans Uga". We will be back.

Ilona and Norman went out of their way to make our holiday very special. From providing us with delicious fresh fruit and coconuts to organising two local food banquet evenings with coconut crabs and delicious fish salad. In our opinion Norman makes the best fish salad on the island. Nothing was too much for them. The self catering units are well stocked with everything you'll need including a coffee plunger. Roosters run wild on the island and are very vocal so bring ear plugs. Anaiki Motel is well positioned on the west side of the island with most site seeing activities occurring within a 10 minute car drive ie Lima pools, Hikutavake snorkelling pools, Matapa chasm, Talava arches, and Palaha cave. Anaiki Motel is located with direct access onto the reef. We did regular snorkelling off the back of the reef and saw three kinds of sharks up close, a turtle, hundreds of sea snakes (not harmful as their mouths are too small) and amazing fish and coral life. We also heard whales. You will need to check the tides, have reef shoes and time your entry/exits between wave sets. The best place to enter is off the left side when facing out to sea. There was no current/rip and it was fairly safe after you've navigated the entry/exit point.

We spent a long time weighing up where to stay on Niue and eventually went with Anaiki. Turned out to be a great decision! Ilona is a very good, friendly and helpful host. The location is just perfect for our snorkeling based holiday with the beautiful Avaiki Cave just below, which is accessed at low tide. It is also a 10-15 minute or so drive from Limu Pools and the Matapa chasm( a great all tide snorkeling spot.) We were able to use some fins which Ilona supplied free of charge for when we snorkeled outside the reef at Avatele. (there is also snorkel and masks for use) The room we stayed in had a kitchenette and fridge, toilet, shower with hair dryer and a couple of fans as there is no air con. Mozzie net which covered the bed was useful. A sliding door led to a deck with a table and chairs. There is a viewing platform which overlooks the reef and is a perfect place to watch the sunset. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again if we ever make it back to Niue. It really is the best location of any accommodation on Niue and you won't be disappointed if you stay here. Thanks Ilona, we hope to see you again some time. :-)

Just returned from a fantastic 10 nights on Niue where we stayed at Anaiki Motel. There are only 4 units, all facing the ocean and there is also a beautiful platform right at the cliff edge that was perfect for sundowners, and for checking the tides and looking for dolphins!
Anaiki doesn't have a guest pool - and doesn't need one - it's local pool is straight from the garden and down to the Avaiki Caves tide pool known as the Kings Pool is one of the most scenic spots on the island, and it, along with the incredible Palaha Cave is under 5 minutes walk from your bedroom!
The unit is clean and well set up for self-catering, and only 7 minutes drive to Alofi where you can find most restaurants as well as grocery supplies.
Illona is a wonderful, friendly host, always on hand to answer questions, make bookings and chat. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we've discovered somewhere that we definetly want to return to.

Hi there, The motel is so secluded and sheltered, we are currently not the range for the free wifi. Feedback from past guests has been that the direct access to swimming outweighs wifi absence. Excellent spot for total relaxation. However wifi hotspot is available and only a few minutes up the road
There are more places to choose from in the Makefu area.
