As a family group of three we had a most enjoyable stay at Anaiki Motel at the end of July 2023. The gin deck on top of the limestone cliff is the best! We could sit out there for hours while the whales leapt about and dolphins swam past - wonderful. Ilona is awesome, very engaged with her customers and has a fascinating back story. The roosters were damned annoying.. there’s about a dozen of them and they compete with each other in the cockle doodle do department every morning starting at 4:30 am. Too much male testosterone. If Ilona could get rid of them the whole experience would be enhanced. But then I also understand they are her “family” along with the hens, rusty the cat and the various kittens with the weird facial features. On the whole I would be happy to go back..

Thank you for your feedback, greatly appreciated. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and I remember you were one of the lucky guests to have a lifetime opportunity to swim with the whales. We also upgraded you to a more comfortable sleeping arrangement for your group, of course without charge. Indeed, the motel is settled in the nature, some local roosters and hens are permanent residents of the area of the motel that is more than 6000 sqm. Time by time there are number of others coming from the bush in the hope of food, which is out of our control. As on the most pacific islands they are rather looked at as native birds than annoying pests. We are informing our guests prior to arrival, and advise to be prepared with earplugs for those with light sleeping issues.

Loved our stay at Anaiki Motel on our recent trip to Niue. The rooms were clean and tidy and it has an amazing viewing deck to watch the dolphins from. Short walk down to the Avaiki Caves which was our favourite swimming spot on the whole island. Hope to be back soon, thanks so much Illona & Norman!!

What started out as a family holiday for 4 ended up an extended family holiday of 20 as everyone wanted to come to Niue to swim with the whales, we booked all of the Anaiki units and sent the rest of the family down the road. Anaiki is not a flash motel however the warmth of the host IIona, the proximity of the rock pools, amazing views and the very comfortable beds more than make up for the tiredness. Cliff top BBQ’s, a pool for the kids to play in and a fabulous viewing deck to watch the setting sun and maybe a whale or 2 makes for a wonderful and memorable holiday. We found Anaiki Motel a great place to holiday with family and we’d definitely recommend as a place to stay.

Pros - great location with access to avaiki cave and the reef pools (our favourite snorkelling place) - pool (although no ladder access so it was a little tricky getting out) - lookout was a great breakfast and coffee site. - Fantastic location to explore the north sites such as limu pools, matapa chasm, arches. Cons - the roosters. they start crowing at 2am, sometimes 4am and are loud loud loud. even ear plugs dont block them out. - the walls are paperthin. you can hear everything (and i mean almost everything). The people next to us were terrible snorers. it reduced our daughter to tears as her bed backed onto there bed. She banged on the walls at night and they kept snoring. - no air con. The fans moved the air around but the heat was often oppressive. Some sun loungers would be nice. - the cooking saucepans are small when cooking for a family of 4. Ilona is a lovely host. We would have appreciated fresh towels and we didnt know we had to ask for beach towels until our last day (we were using smelly wet towels we took with us). I didnt like having to ask for things like toilet paper, towels or tee towels all the time.

We had a great 10 days in June at this lovely little motel (NB Not a B&B). The very comfortable 1 bedroom unit had excellent bathroom and bedroom facilities. And a nice sheltered deck for breakfasts overlooking the park like grounds through the coconut trees to the ocean. The lookout gave better views where we saw dolphins as well as looking to the reef pools and fish. Thanks Ilona. All the facilities we needed for meals and beach and pool. A very relaxing holiday.

You can't beat the location and viewing platform was lovely to sit with a coffee and watch the fish. It was great that it had a car as part of package as you really need one to get around. The pool looked great but we never got in as we spent our days in the rock pools and snorkeling. The Avaiki cave was really good for a snorkel and just so beautiful, water so clear. The large reef pool (viewed from deck) on the right it incredible to swim at low tide and had the most fish of everywhere we went. IIona is a great host with great stories to share about Niue and took us Uga hunting one night which was really cool. You do need the read the book in the room regarding towels changed etc as its not daily and that was fine for us. Great stocked kitchen was well used. Very relaxing holiday.

Ilona and Norman went out of their way to make our holiday very special. From providing us with delicious fresh fruit and coconuts to organising two local food banquet evenings with coconut crabs and delicious fish salad. In our opinion Norman makes the best fish salad on the island. Nothing was too much for them. The self catering units are well stocked with everything you'll need including a coffee plunger. Roosters run wild on the island and are very vocal so bring ear plugs. Anaiki Motel is well positioned on the west side of the island with most site seeing activities occurring within a 10 minute car drive ie Lima pools, Hikutavake snorkelling pools, Matapa chasm, Talava arches, and Palaha cave. Anaiki Motel is located with direct access onto the reef. We did regular snorkelling off the back of the reef and saw three kinds of sharks up close, a turtle, hundreds of sea snakes (not harmful as their mouths are too small) and amazing fish and coral life. We also heard whales. You will need to check the tides, have reef shoes and time your entry/exits between wave sets. The best place to enter is off the left side when facing out to sea. There was no current/rip and it was fairly safe after you've navigated the entry/exit point.

Ilona and Norman are generous hosts. The pool was well maintained and the whale viewing platform was a nice spot. Kitchen facilities had everything you need including a toaster oven, two hot plates and a microwave. Freezer was inside the fridge so not great for deep freeze but enough for ice and booze. It's not luxury accommodation: the walls are very thin so you can hear everything and we didn't feel like we had much privacy. With only 5 units everyone knows each other and we heard about one couple's illness from another guest and another couple's snoring from another. Nice and cozy though and really friendly owners and guests so we really did feel like part of the family. As some of the other reviews mentioned you'll hear the Roosters from 3am but I imagine that's many places on the island. The studio unit is much smaller and missing some little touches such as shelf space in the bathroom and information book that the other units had. Our room was cleaned almost every second day with our towels changed once the whole week we were there. But as Ilona said when I finally asked for dry beach towels; nothing is impossible. It's not in my nature but I think if you just ask they'll be happy to help out with anything. They helped us husk drinking coconuts, showed us coconut crabs and invited us to watch the rugby. Bring some movies on usb if you want to watch tv. Enjoy home away from home.

Anaiki is our home away from home. We have now stayed there five times since it reopened with Ilona as a perfect hostess. It is an ideal setting directly above Avaiki Cave and two reef pools. It is also close to many other attractions. The units are comfortable and have everything you need. Nothing is a problem for Ilona or Norman and they will do their best to answer your every need. For a relaxing laid-back holiday you couldn't do better.

The location of Anaiki motel is fantastic. Located above a cave through which you can walk directly onto the reef with lovely swimming holes for snorkelling and swimming. Beautiful views from all rooms and especially from the viewing platforms where we spent most of our breakfasts, and "happy hour" at sunset, saw whales from there and many coloured fish at high tide on the reef. The owners are amazing. Ilona and Norman looked after us very well and nothing was too much hassle, and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. We had a lot of fun and social times with them and the other guests, and left as friends. The units were clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. Highly recommend Anaiki motel.
