The staff were super helpful since we arrived really late, the surroundings are beautiful, and the common areas are robust. We stayed in a cabin with a private room & shared bathrooms. We never even saw anybody else in our cabin, although I know there was at least 1 other couple there. We got in too late & left too... More

We stayed in Kowhai Cottage for just one night and it was a great experience. We had been unsure what to expect but were very happily surprised. Despite being a little off the beaten track, Te Nikau Retreat combines a rustic setting with good service, great facilities and a great nature experience. Our cottage was really well appointed and very... More

We arrived at Te Nikau in the pouring rain, after a day of driving in the pouring rain. The place is fabulous. It's warm and cosy, with a wood burning stove in the living room. We stayed in a basic private room, which had a private bathroom. It would have slept 3 people, so at $90 it's a bargain. It... More

The setting is right in the nature (if you like that). I was very disappointed that there were no room keys, which made me feel unsafe. Our room was in the main building with an ensuite bathroom, but although this building was the main hub for all guests, including the communal kitchen, shared bathroom facilities and a family room area,... This is one of the most magnificent place I have visited. It was hard to believe I was in NZ and not Costa Rica. The rain forest is just awesome and so quite. We stayed in the Te Ruru Lodge for our first night which was comfortable and quite and quite lovely. The smell of fresh baked muffins in the... More

We stayed at Te Nikau for 1 night and really wish we could have stayed longer. Beautiful location, right in the midst of rainforest, lovely community of people, everything was very clean even with shared bathrooms and the beach is just a short walk from here. Highly recommend it and if we return to NZ we plan to stay here... More

Wonderful place - my 3rd stay now. Staff very friendly, setting is superb - all in rainforest, just 5 mins walk from Truman Beach. You absolutely feel as though you're in a different world. All well thought out and very clean. I would wholeheartedly recommend it, especially the individual lodges if your budget stretches that far. However, no rooms in... More

Knowing that we'd arrive late due to our excllent* time management, the receptionist kindly stayed up until 11pm for us and reserved a car parking space. We stayed in a large mixed dorm which was characterful, warm and spacious, although open so I don't think I'd have liked to leave my stuff here for a day. The facilities are very... More
