Located 5 minutes to the beach and 10 minutes to the Port of Saint Malo, this historical "Malouinière" (built by a Privateer Captain in 1714) has been beautifully restored. Decorated and furnished in XVIIIth century style, it is fitted with all modern conveniences. Agnes and Claude, a Franco/English/American couple who has lived and worked in Germany/Austria/Italy and Spain will welcome you personnally in your language and will introduce you to the history of the house and its area, and will give you precious advice on what to see and on the best places to have dinner nearby. The house is surrounded by the large peaceful walled flowery gardens and you will be served a cup of tea/coffee with biscuits on the south terrace unpon your arrival A complete breakfast with bacon and eggs, fresh fruit juice and salad, will await you the next morning by the wooden fire and under the chandeliers of the dining room, where you will be able to share with the hosts the often fascinating (and sometimes multilingual) discussions around the breakfast table. Bedrooms, comfortable, traditional and up two sets of stairs, are dominated by dark ships' timbers. So many positive appreciations from visitors on the different sites attest to a memorable experience... Welcome to Les Trauchandières!

We've recently returned from a 10 day stay at this amazing B and B, the house and grounds are perfect for a charming, comfortable stay. The location is excellent, quiet, and rural whilst only a 15 minutes drive from St Malo centre. There are also some excellent local restaurants within a few minutes. Our room was full of character, spacious and very comfortable.
The hosts, Claude and Agnes were wonderful, friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
We would certainly stay here again if we are in the St Malo area.

Staying with Agnes and Claude in St-Malo was an absolute highlight of our time in France. They were so gracious and accommodating. We accidentally arrived about 30 minutes early and Claude was very welcoming, stopping what he was doing to make us hot chocolate, tea, and cookies and to talk with us, which was really appreciated after a long drive and rainy afternoon.

The rooms were quiet and the beds very comfortable – we all (2 adults, 2 kids) had the best night’s sleep we’ve had during our trip – there were fresh crisp sheets and duvet covers that were the perfect weight – one of those mornings where you are so comfortable, you don’t want to get out of bed.

Breakfast was extensive and delicious – eggs, bacon, chocolate croissants, baguettes, locally made yogurts, granola, fresh berries, fresh squeezed orange juice.

They also very graciously let us use their charging station at the house to charge our EV car!

Additionally, there are a very cute Airedale terrier (Lily) and cat (Marie Antoinette, with a neat story to accompany the name) at the house. They are very friendly – our son who is a bit unsure around large dogs said “Lily is big, but she is so nice and such a good girl, I’m not scared of her at all.” Marie Antoinette is also very friendly – our daughter loved holding her. The kids played with Lily outdoors before we headed off to dinner (at Fideles – highly recommended, we all had the chef’s menu and it was really good; may need to make reservations as it was quite popular even in the off season on a rainy Thursday night).

An absolute highlight of our trip and a truly memorable stay. Thank you, Claude and Agnes! You are welcome to visit us in Santa Barbara any time.

During my and my husband's trip to Normandy and Brittany, we saw this historic maison as guests and remained in my heart. With kindness, education and delicacy the owner François and his wife Agnes welcomed us into their dream home. Upon our arrival, Mr. François immediately offered us something to drink and showed us part of his house and recommended an excellent restaurant for dinner. The maison is surrounded by hectares of well-kept green lawns, centuries-old trees and flowers, many blooming flowers such as dahlias and hydrangeas. For me, everything in this house is beautiful, from the windows overlooking the gardens, to the paintings, the upholstery and the furnishings in general. I loved climbing the ancient wooden stairs that creak at every step to get to our luxury room, huge and beautiful, a dream attic. The next morning, the kind and affable Mrs. Agnes prepared us a rich and delicious breakfast which we shared with the other guests of the house in one of the rooms of the villa. They call breakfast petit dejeuner but I assert with full knowledge of the facts that it has very little that is small, perhaps the price which is more than honest for the quality and quantity of the products served, mainly prepared by the kind Lady Agnese. I highly recommend a stay in this residence and I will replicate the experience on another trip. Thanks François thanks Agnes. 😀😀

Our car rental GPS failing us yet again, announcing we had "reached our destination" when in the middle of nowhere, we rang the Manoir for better directions.

Agnes, one of the owners, said she'd meet us in the town square by the church and we could follow her. Once we arrived at their lovely manor house, and had settled in, she made us a lovely pot of tea which we drank in their beautiful garden along with freshly made Madeleines. It was a perfect beginning to our 4 night stay here.
Agnes, who is British but has spent many years in the US and elsewhere, and her French husband, Claude, are the consummate hosts. Breakfasts at a long table in their cozy dining room were a great start to the day as well as fun and interesting as we chatted with the owners and other guests.

Our room was lovely and the mattress a very good one for which I was very grateful after a long drive to reach the property.

We hope to return to this beautiful part of France and would not hesitate to stay at Les Trauchandieres again and recommend it highly to others.

What a typical regional and beautifully restorated place ! In the midst of nature close to main attractions in the region with very hospitable hosts.
The rooms are big, confortable, nicely decorated and you feel as if you were living in another time. Breakfast is served by the host who enjoys sharing stories and information.
Thank you for the great time !

Not BUT... to add for this nice place !

The hosts are wonderfully simple people who welcome their guests with warmth and care.
Location itself is romantic, beautiful and has an authentic charm.
House is equiped with a beautiful lounge and a enormous garden that guests are encouraged to use as their own. Garden is perfect if you have children. Our daughter loved running around the garden with the chickens and petting the family dog.
Overall, the experiance was so much more than we hoped for.

This is not a Malouinière-museum where everything is frozen. It's a lively Malouinière, with warm hosts and which has all the charm of an old house.
This Malouinière comes from very far away because at the beginning of the last century, it was almost a ruin. Restored with love and respect
Quietly located, surrounded by cornfields and woods, but a few minutes from Cancale for restaurants in the evening.
Some very beautiful furniture, a beautiful paneled living room, and especially the imposing old staircase which could tell stories.
Large, very pleasant garden for reading a book and relaxing. And Claude the owner who fights against moles and wild boars who damage his lawns almost daily
Hearty breakfast by the wood fire, choice of bread including an old-fashioned one that I recommend
Large bedroom with perfect bedding, and with all the desired comfort. And good soundproofing
The small downside: there is a washing machine and a dryer in our room, well built into storage spaces but we twice had the unpleasant smell of the products which required airing for a few minutes
There is no TV (great!) but there is fiber for the desperate

We stayed for one night as a stop over from the ferry. We’re bowled over by the warm welcome and excellent conversation.
So pleased we booked this rather than a faceless hotel in town. Will definitely be back if we come this way again.

Thank you for a wonderful start to our holiday.

We discovered this place whilst looking for somewhere to spend our last night of our two week holiday in France. We read the reviews and were looking forward to our stay. First impressions upon arrival were very good, a beautiful house in a gorgeous countryside setting but within easy reach of Cancale and Saint Malo. Imagine our disappointment then after a long day on the road to be told that there was no booking for us even though we had emails from the owners confirming our booking. Unfortunately for us the main house was fully booked but as an alternative we were offered rooms in the gite which is attached to the main house. Being late on in the afternoon and tired from a day on the road we accepted the offer of the rooms however it was a bitter disappointment to what we had being expecting. Instead of two double ensuite rooms we were offered one double room and a twin room with a bathroom on the lower ground floor via a very rickety and steep staircase. We were able before we departed, the following morning, to have a look round some of the ground floor rooms in the main house and although functional the gite is definitely below the standard of the main house. Agnes did offer us the rooms in the gite for no charge but we did make a small payment before we left to cover the cost of the delicious breakfast we had. It was just a disappointment that we were unable to enjoy the bedrooms in the main house which we had been so looking forward to. There are many positives to this place and the owners seem to be really lovely people, it is just a shame that there booking system failed them.

We were impressed with the 500-year-old house that, apparently, was where Jacques Cartier's sister lived long ago...a nice connection for us Canadians. The stairs give evidence that they really ARE 500 years old, but they are wide and solid...no elevator, and high ceilings, so the climb to the second floor is not for the faint-hearted! The room was very spacious, nicely furnished, and the bathroom was modern. Lots of hot water for showers.
But the real attraction at this B&B is the host couple, Agnes and Claude. Agnes is an ex-Californian, and Claude speaks perfect English. Both are lively, open, funny, warm, and charming. They could not have been more hospitable, and they leaned over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. They loaned us bicycles and Claude insisted on driving us (and the bikes) to an idyllic bike trail along the picturesque Rance; he then returned later at an agreed-upon time to pick us up. We enjoyed the more-than-ample breakfasts, the company of the other guests as well as the hosts, and one dinner prepared by the hosts.
This is a real gem, fellow travellers. And Agnes and Claude are working hard to find ways to make it even better. We would return in a heartbeat!
