Spent one night here, and the room was exactly what we needed. A large bed with kitchenette and bathroom. And for the rates we paid, it was very good value for money. No noise heard from the highway. The room was clean and we had no issues at all. Staff were pleasant at check-in, but offered no further information other than handing over the key, and were not seen of again. However, cleaning appeared to be done efficiently in the morning, and cleaning staff offered a few smiles. Would stay at again without a doubt.

There is always a staff person on hand for any enquiries for tours or other information guests may like to have. As there is a manager on duty at all times while they have office management duties they also attend to keeping the cleaning staff up to date on departures or other guest services as well as outside duties as well. Guest service is a priority we will always do what we can to assist your needs.

The place looks pretty run down from the outside. Our hearts sank when we approached the room. The little garden and the pool outside looked neglected. The iron rails of the stairway leading to our assigned room looked rusty and seemed to be crying out for a coat of paint.

Our impressions changed when got into the room. Although badly needing a fresh coat of paint, the place was clean. It has useful amenities like a hair dryer, refrigerator, sink, plates, cups, forks and spoons, a heater jug and a microwave oven, iron and ironing board. Toiletries were supplied too although we used our own. All were in good working condition. A toaster would be a helpful addition. The wardrobe was small with a few hangers that have seen better days.

The bathroom was small but had a standing shower, a sitting toilet and a wash basin. Hot and cold water were available. No smoking is allowed in the rooms so the room did not reek of old cigarette smoke.
Other good points are it is about a 10 minute walk to the beach and there is sufficient place to park your car at the rear of the building at no charge.

The negative points (that can easily be corrected ) are:
1. The whole place needs a fresh coat of paint, with old and worn out boards and cupboards being replaced.
2. The taps in the kitchen and the shower kept dripping no matter how tightly they were shut. This can be annoying, especially at night. It is ironic that this has not been attended to, although there are notices asking everyone to save water.
3. There are no hangers in the bathroom to hang up new or used clothes. Everything had be piled up over the sink.
4. Apart from a small soap dish in the shower place, there was no place to store your own shampoo, conditioner or soap.
5. And most disconcerting was the lack of a security lock on the room door. An old lock kept the door closed but even a good bang on the door will flight it open.

Guests who decide on this place should know that towels and linens are not changed, nor is the room cleaned or vacuumed for stays of less than 5 days. Even then, they are only changed once mid-way through your stay. Given this policy, providing a broom or a vacuum cleaner in each room would be a good idea.

Overall, we had a satisfactory 3-night stay. It would have been an excellent choice if some of the niggles noted above can be addressed.

Our rooms are all the same except for a couple of extra rooms with different amenities. The room occupied by this guest is designed for a quick one night stay and although has most of the same facilities that is in all the others it did not have a full hanging cupboard or a sink, hence quick night stay with less use of kitchen. It does provide a small sink in the bathroom for hand washing and cups, glasses can be rinsed here. The doors are all quite secure and this room although appeared not, the motel is in an affluent area of the Gold Coast. All our plumbing is attended to once we are informed about any such problems.

We arrived to stay for one night & found the room clean & the beds nicely presented. Unfortunately through the night the window bashed continuously & so we did not have a very pleasant night’s sleep. I sleep like a log normally & so only woke up a couple of times due to the loud window but my partner struggled to sleep almost at all. This aside, I thought the room was good value for what we paid. There is a 10am checkout time which is completely reasonable, however at 6 minutes to 10 when our bags were packed up & my partner was brushing his teeth before we left, we received several very abrupt, loud knocks on our door. When opened we were told very abruptly by a blonde lady who was there to clean the room ‘Are you checking out? It’s 10am & we’re waiting to clean your room’. I apologised & replied ‘oh sorry we are leaving in a couple of minutes, I didn’t realise it was 10 yet’ my partner then came out with his watch & said ‘we’ve still got 5 minutes’. The lady then told us that ‘you better hurry up because we’re here waiting to clean your room’. It wasn’t a nice way to leave the place & she was very unapologetic & a bit aggressive. When we were walking out with our bags this lady gave us one last unpleasant glare. I know it’s budget accomodation but a smile & a positive attitude go a long way & cost nothing. There was another brunette lady cleaner we saw on our way out who seemed lovely & smiled at us which was much nicer. The blonde cleaner is definitely not an asset to this hotel. We didn’t appreciate being rudely interrupted in the final minutes of our stay & won’t be back.

I am very sorry that you had this experience our cleaning staff are contractors and not usually that abrupt with guests. They are only here until all their assigned rooms are done and as every one can have an off day this may have been hers. They do contend with some guests that don't abide by our 10am check out and hang around to 10.30 plus thus holding up our check in procedure as well.

The staff were 100% helpful & pleasant, the cleaners were too & very accommodating!! Having spring water bottles in the fridge was amazing as with the hot Queenland summers this is so sensible & a good idea with the milk to go with the complimentary tea & coffee. On check-out they refunded the "security deposit" immediately unlike other places where sometimes this means waiting "between 2-5 business days" thankfully here that wasn't the case.

I am deeply disappointed and disgusted my the service I received at Montego Mermaid Beach Motel. I chose to stay at the Montego Mermaid Beach Motel because of its recent renovations that are displayed all over its website. I even spared extra money to upgrade to a superior double room with a balcony. When I arrived, my partner and I stood at reception waiting to be greeted for several minutes. We had to call out to be have someone come and see us for check in. The woman looked like she was too busy watching TV to be greeting her guests. This was not a good start for us. When we arrived to our room we were horrified that our room was nothing like it was pictured on the website. We saw photos of wooden floors, comfy new couches, newly painted walls and tidy kitchen spaces. Our room was the complete opposite. It was covered in old, dirty-stained carpet which looked like it hadn’t been cleaned. There was old furniture, no decoration to the point it felt very dark and depressing and my allergies were playing up from dust-mites after 15 minutes of arrival. I specifically requested to have wooden floors in my comments when booking and this was not honoured. I was deeply upset and had to leave the motel immediately. I tried to call reception and the lady on the phone was argumentative and unwillingly to help. I requested to move rooms and was refused and spoken down to like a child. She was not interested in helping me or did not care about the quality of my stay. I told her I had horrible allergies to the room and could not stay there. Due to my requests being ignored and be feeling so uncomfortable about staying there, I asked to be refunded and to check out to which she refused a refund. I was in tears after our conversation and have never felt so disrespected due to such a poor level of customer service. I was so upset I decided to book another hotel to stay at the night as my whole weekend felt ruined. My partner and I were looking forward to this week to celebrate our five-year anniversary. I ended up having to pay another $250 at another hotel where I received excellent value for my money. To top off such a horrible experience already, I immediately checked out after I booked a new hotel, and half an hour later, my exact room was advertised on booking.com again with vacancy for the same night. It was booked within the hour. Not only was I refused a refund, the motel kept my money and received quite the profit in having someone else pay again. They wouldn’t of even had time to clean the room. I would like to be contacted from both the motel management and booking.com about this disgusting and disappointing visit. I will be spreading my review on all possible platforms until I receive appropriate compensation and a refund for this experience.

Response from MontegoMotel, Manager at Montego Mermaid Beach Motel
Responded 24 Jan 2020
On behalf of the Motel I would like to firstly point out that the guest booked a room that clearly states it has carpet in the room information. And at no time at the time of booking or during any email conversation or even at check in did this guest mention allergies with carpet, if she had stated this before the check in we would have advised that the room would not be suitable for her and allocated a room that had recently been updated with wooden flooring or free cancellation as we were full this particular evening. This guest room was in fact renovated along with all the others but due to its location and the type of floor the renovation team recommended for comfort it would be better off with new carpet so that was done. All the furniture was brand new as well as the carpet. The guest was refunded her security deposit when she decided to depart and given a bottle of bubbly but due to the booking conditions and there being no mention of the allergies prior to check in where a wooden floor was the only option for her until she entered the room its clear there was more to the guest situation of her perhaps expectation of what the room would be like. Its clear that some guests do not read the fine print information regarding the room information and just look at the entire motel pictures and believe all rooms are the same when in fact they are not. The staff member on duty did not treat her as the guest states just merely states the facts we are full and we cannot change your room, and advised that the only room with carpet is vacuumed with an industrial vacuum to ensure the carpet is cleaned. Our booking policies are quite clear and as there was no mention at all prior to guest entering the room there was no refund. The guest chose to leave and as the room was left vacant and only the bathroom used and complimentary items removed, the manager cleaned the room and it was sold as high demand this particular night. We ask that all guests provide any special needs to us at time of booking by either email or phone call so that we can assist with helping this to be possible. We have many guests that have special guests and by notifying us at time of booking these will always be met if possible or free cancellation if already paid.

All the staff, from management to cleaners were approachable, friendly and nothing was a bother for them. The pool and grounds were well kept. Rooms were serviced regularly for long term residents.
Although our room was getting dated the complex it self was slowly being renovated. It is important to remember that one gets what one pays for so don't go there expecting 5 Star service.
An ideal spot on the Gold Coast to be out of the tourist hustle and bustle. Very close to the beach and a new Woolworths supermarket across the road.
If the opportunity arises again we would definitely stay there

Great little motel. Centrally located. Very clean and comfortable. Efficient staff. I left my phone charger in the room and they sent it back to me free of charge. If I come back to the Gold Coast, I'll definitely stay there again. And I'd highly recommend it for a quick visit to the area

If you are after a posh holiday resort this is not your place but for a good old fashioned motel holiday near the beach this is excellent. Great location walking to beach, restaurants, bars, everything you want for a Gold Coast getaway. Easy public transport for Broadbeach and Surfers and plenty of parking on site. Nice well cared for rooms, good beds and friendly staff. It’s not the Hyatt but you could stay a week here for less than one night at the Hyatt.

Excellent stay in this basic but well-kept motel. All that you need for a short stay. Adjoins a cafe which does a great breakfast! Also has a small pool and outside area for relaxing, and a small laundry. About 10 minutes walk to beach and bus stop a minutes walk away.
