The location was not the best as there was not a lot of shops nearby, anyways the rating was not based on that.

The pool area was fantastic and the vibe from the outside overall presented well, produced a good holiday house vibe, inside the apartment is spacious however quite a few letdowns that I picked on during the stay, little things do matter

* Furnitures are old and bring down the whole experience of the stay in a so-called 4 star accommodation

* No air-conditioning in. Bedrooms, we were lucky this year it wasn't too hot during Christmas, so could live with it.

* Pedestrian entrance needs to be improved, I hit my head on the wall light which is fixed too low while trying to dodge the plant grown over the path.

* Unpleasant Registration Form, basically "orders" you to do certain things otherwise threat you with a charge, straight away first impression gone first day when I saw this, see attached photo

July 2005. My wife and our two children (4 and 7) and two friends and their 8 year old daughter shared a 3 bedroom apartment in July 05. We loved it.

Location wise, this facility suits families with a car, as it is on the "wrong" side of the Gold Coast Highway, wth the highway between you and the beach about 5 blocks away. Mermaid Beach is the next beach south of Broadbeach, which is a 3-5 minute drive away, and about 15 minutes from Surfers Main Beach. Still a very easy location for anyone that is primarly intending to get around Surfers by car. Small shops anc conveniences were within a two block walk of the resort. If you belong to an Auto club, then discounted theme park tickets can be purchased nearby at the RACQ office in neighbourng Miami beach.

The complex is large, and made up primarily of 3 story apartment blocks surrounding a fabulous huge tepid freeform pool. The pool is fringed with palms and tropical plants and large rocks and even comes with its own sandy beach. Max depth is 180cm. On one side of the pool is a clean area with two undercover barbeques. Our kids absolutely loved the pool, and virtually grew gills swimming in it, even in July. It wasn't really warm, but was a very comfortable temperature for swimming. Disappointingly though, their large rock spa pool on the side of the main pool was not heated, but was the same temperature as the main pool.

The apartments are spacious, and almost all completely renovated to a high standard. Each unit is individually owned and decorated inside, giving an element of individuality. Ours came complete with DVD player, modern appliances and furniture, diswasher, wastemaster, optional aircon, etc. We had two queen bedrooms, and one bedroom with twin beds. Floors were tiled. The apartment came with two bathrooms, both of which doubled as ensuites for the two queen bedrooms (although one could also be entered from the hall without going through a bedroom). The laundry had washer and dryer and tub.

The apartment had two great balconies, one large one facing the pool, and another on the side of the building off the master bedroom, which in our case caught the sunset. The complex is completely gated, with room keys needed to drive in and out. Parking is all underground, with internal access into all stairwells.

We were on the top floor of three, which we liked, but none of the apartments have elevators. There are also no ramps and the complex has a number of pool security gates on main paths, so this is not a resort for anyone in a wheelchair.

It is also not appropriate for families with very young but mobile children, as there is really no outdoor recreational space that is not the pool, so young children playing in the complex must be supervised. There is no children's play area.

We really enjoyed it, thought it stylish and a bit upmarket, and the kids adored the pool. We would happily go back. When we visited in July, days were warm but nights were cool, and we were happy to have a third floor apartment to get all the sun we could. In the hotter months I would recommend requesting a ground floor poolside apartment with as much cool tropical shade as possible.

This resort is nice. It was our first time to Australia so we did not know what to expect. Diamond sands is located in Mermaid beach in the gold coast close to the well known surfers paradise. This might not be the right way to describe the place but the gold coast it pretty much blackpool or Orlando but in Australia and a bit but nicer. In the sense that there are lots of theme parks and attractions and always a nice place to eat. Such as sea world, wet and wild, movie world and dream world which are all great fun and a must to visit. I think this part of Australia is the tourist capital. Diamond sands is outside a busy high way which did make it difficult to cross the road when we needed to go to the shops. The bus service is excellent here as they come about every 10 mins and take you where you want around the area. So there is no need for a car. The aparments are clean and better than we expected. The have an open plan kitchen and lounge area and a down stairs toilet. The kitchen is fully equipet with a microwave, cooker, dishwasher etc. There is a garage to keep your rented car. There is also washing machine and dryer. Upstairs we had two comfortable bedrooms with a walk in closet and both had on suite bathrooms. The resort also had a swimming pool that was safe for kids as both sides were shallow but it was deep in the middle weird at first i thought. There is a barbque area and a games room. The staff here are friendly and will do there best to give you advice or infomation about where to go and what to do. We spent 21 nights in this are which was a bit too long. I would advise about two weeks and then look around the other parts of the country. If you go here you will have a good time.

A very average place with a good pool and in a good location but I would not stay there again. There was no aircon upstairs and with the temperatures in the mid 30’s this led to sleepless nights and lots of complaints from the 4 kids which of course is never pleasant. We also saw a few cockroaches which I detest. The pool is very nice but other than that it’s a no from me.

Stayed here for 6 nights with 2 small children. Very spacious apartment with very well appointed facilities - apart from lighting - was very dull, particularly in the kitchen - needed it on all day. The pool is superb and very suitable for young children as has shallow sides and deeper centre. The pool man was there each morning cleaning the pool. A small sandy beach in the pool is also a bonus for the children. Because some (?) of the apartments are privately owned the standard of furnishings varies, however ours was adequate. The rooms are serviced weekly, but a washing machine and dryer makes this arrangement manageable. We liked the low rise of the complex and the beautiful landscaping which was regularly attended to. Bus stop outside the complex, with buses around 15 mins apart. Pacific Fair a good 15 minute walk, if you're feeling up to it. Plenty of parking in the basement and would recommend a hire car for families going to theme parks. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We are planning our next visit already.

We stayed at the Diamond Sands for six nights March 2006. We were placed in a great 3 bedroom apartment on the ground floor opening out almost straight onto the pool. The apartment had all the basic facilities we needed including a washing machine, dryer and the usual appliances. The decor was nice although showing small signs of wear and tear but overall quite nice. We were lucky to have a large courtyard all to ourselves so we could hang out our washing to dry daily. There was no housekeeping so we did our own cleaning and had to wash our towels daily. Our kids loved the large lagoon style pool and we swam every morning and at night. There is a bus stop just a little bit down the road and stores close by. The highway is busy to cross but manageable. We did a big shop at Coles at Pacific Fair for the week instead of the nearby convenience stores which works out cheaper. We didn't hire a car but instead used the local surfside bus which goes every 10-15 minutes and used the shuttle bus to get us out to the theme parks every day. I would recommend booking the shuttle buses to the theme parks as they are very convenient and quick.....whereas the public buses take twice as long and can be quite crowded. We were recommended a great little bowling club about 5-7 minutes down the road to eat at night and it was tasty and inexpensive for us as a family of six. We also took all our food and drink to the theme parks as it is hideously expensive to buy food there. We stored all our stuff in a locker and got them out when needed.

My family of 5 (me, my husband and children 4yrs, 2 yrs and 9 months) stayed here for 6 nights in a 2 bed apartment. The apartment was spotless upon arriving, tastefully furnished, well equiped with dishwasher, dryer and washing machine. Above all it was safe for the children. The pool was exceptionally clean as was the pool area. The location is great, you can always find a staff member if you need one.
I will certainly return to Diamond Sands

Stayed for 10 days in October. Apart from the shocking weather our holiday was great and the Diamond Sands was perfect for us.

Room was relatively basic but had all we needed. I understand that they are furnished by the owners so I guess it is pot luck. We had a 3 bedroom apartment on the first floor overlooking the pool area. Bit of effort getting the luggage up and down the stairwell (no lifts).

Pool is great. Heated (probably a little too much !) lagoon style with a beach-like entrance at one end (complete with white sand). Great for the kids.

Handy location with enough amenities (ie cafes, shops etc.) close by. A 5 min car ride or bus ride into Surfers (unless you go around Indy time like we unfortunately did !).

Didn't see mich of the staff but those that we spoke to were polite and helpful.

We stayed as a party of 5 at the Diamond Sands resort from 16-26th Feb 06. We have stayed at quite a few resorts in Surfers and several times in broadbeach at the diamond beach resort, but we decided this time to try diamond sands in mermaid beach- down the road.

Firstly, Peter and the staff there were great to communicate with via emails- very helpful.

The area is better than broadbeach (5mins via car up the road) as there are lots of little shops- takeaways, convenience stores etc , all within 5 mins walk.

Having a car it was easy to get to the theme parks, but one thing we found was with the delica wagon we hired- it only just, fitted height wise into the underground carpark of the resort and all the carpark buildings, so be careful!

The resort was very similar in design, colour and layout as diamond beach, apparantly built by the same builder. Diamond sands is smaller but fine.

We were on the top floor in a 3 bedroom apartment- I think it was apartment 27? it was, as others have described- basic, but had everything. We had the air conditioning at an extra $8 per day- WELL worth it as it was very hot, although you need to note that it doesnt reach down into any of the bedrooms as it is situated right by the front door at the far end of the aaprtment.

The only minus was that as another reviewer said- they are all independantly owned, so it is pot luck. This must be true as our apartment looked nothing like the pics I have seen in others reviews. It was very tatty, lots of stains on carpets, paint scraped off, lots of bits in it broken or breaking and it had a horrible smell in it for some reason. So we were pretty disappointed - it just needed a freshen up, some colour and new carpet or tiles.

The salt water pool is nice, not big but kept clean with nice BBQs there for your use.

The overall feeling was it was pretty tired, the pool recliners on one side of the pool were all ripped & torn, so you couldnt use them.

Diamond Beach up the road is definitely nicer (but it too was in need of a spruce up in 2003 when we last stayed) but then again it is quite a bit dearer too and the staff at Diamond Sands were great- booked our theme park tickets also at a cheaper rate and were very helpful.

Overall it did the job but we wouldnt go back to this particular resort.

Just returned from a nine day stay at Diamond Sands with our two children aged 12 and 14. Whilst the experience was O.K., there are a few things that we were unimpressed with, considering the money that we outlaid. The design of our third floor apartment made it very difficult for the air conditioner to service efficiently. Even with the air conditioner and ceiling fans operating on high for several hours, the bedrooms remained hot and stifling. The close proximity of the resort to the main highway makes it virtually impossible to leave windows open because it is very noisy both day and night. The games room is really nothing more than a storage area and is dirty and off putting - a closed in room off one of the underground carparks - not somewhere that you would necessarily encourage your children to frequent. The resort is definitely in need of a spruce up all over. Our bathrooms had obviously not been cleaned with any sort of brushes for some time because there were significant traces of mould and mildew in the showers. The pool certainly appears lovely but throughout our stay pieces of litter - bottle tops, rubber from goggles etc remained on the bottom. This resort is not up to the same standard as other accommodation in the Gold Coast area that we have frequented in the past.
